What are you doing today?

It’s our anniversary today - 32 years. It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was 32 years old.

Today was my day off from working out. Of course, one of our not so darling cats has taken to waking me up at 3:00am. Not so terrible if the alarm goes off at 3:50, but today I was supposed to be able to sleep in a little longer. I was not amused. But I could keep H company as he got ready for work. I did a lot of German, piano practice and reading.

Then I got 2.5 hours off from work this morning (use or lose vacation time) where I practiced piano more and took a nap. Now I’m back at work. Joy. I know it’s weird to take off time in the middle of the day, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE being home alone, and H gets off work at 1pm.

After work we are going to the big city to have dinner at a diner and go to Costco. So romantic! But it’s more than our usual chick fila or other fast food joint…

I’m 6 weeks & 2 days past my knee surgery now and today I went to Trader Joe’s for my first post-surgery grocery trip. My closest TJ’s has reasonably good parking, though they are building a condo development in the next door space where there used to be a SteinMart which is creating some chaos. It’s nice to be able to do something normal, particularly now without my cane.

I’m not doing anything in particular different today (miniature house, pool). But I do want to say how much I enjoy this thread. It’s like a diary for everyone! Even if you don’t think your day is very interesting to others, it allows you to make a quick review in your own mind. I find myself taking pictures and telling husband, that’s for the CC thread.

Oh I also love reading about everyone’s days. I always feel everyone leads a more interesting life than I do. I had FOMO before it was even a “thing”.

Anyway , today I sprayed weeds again then went for a walk around the lake. After a light lunch I went to my strength training class bench pressed among other things. Showered and will be off to Mahjong soon.

Also S sent me info on a yoga retreat in Peru next year and I’m interested. Need to see if my sister wants to go.

Today is a rest day from exercise. I have been trying to go to more Pilates classes and I am finding I now need a rest day during the week. So, started the day with Sabapup and a walk; we saw two city workers who pulled over to tell me how lucky she was to get so many walks! Evidently they see us every morning on the way to a job site they’re working at. This morning made a batch of steel cut oats, a layered salad and a pan of brownies before it got to warm. Then to the drugstore for a few things, to the bookstore to order a book (I’m trying to cut down on Amazon for things I can buy anywhere else), then picked up a rotisserie chicken for dinner. It’s very warm. And humid. H somehow injured his eye when working in the yard so he is at urgent care. I wish he’d wear his safety glasses.
Sabapup had a mini-test on city living this past weekend. We drove up to see D and have brunch together and brought Sabapup with us. She navigated the parking garage and the elevator with no problems. Happy to see D’s dog but settled right down when we left for brunch.

Never apologize for how you choose to celebrate an anniversary. If you both like it, it’s the right place! Size of the bill does not = the size of the love!

Sorting out paperwork and trying to get financial docs for CPA. The property manager & bookkeeper are slow to respond to requests for invoices.

I overdid it at the gym yesterday: I woke up with some serious pain in my hip. Took ibuprofin and used an ice pack for an hour or so, and I felt much better.

Got a quick neck trim from my haircut lady; she insists I come in from time to time even if I’m not getting a full haircut. And she doesn’t charge me and refuses a tip!

Then to the book club at my library; returned a pair of shoes from Zappos to UPS; home to nap; then to the dog park. My usual crew hasn’t been there lately. Someone told me that with the long days, people are coming later. I’ll have to start going later, I guess.

My husband seems to have picked up a virus he thinks.

I love him but I always look forward to Thursday when he has lunch plans with friends and golf at night.

Today he canceled both. He’s been sitting on the couch all week. I certainly understand but I’m kinda tired of the couch sitting! He thinks he’s feeling better.

Went for a walk this morning, stopped at Aldi for a few things. Came home made lunch. Had a storm that was stuck over us, we got a lot of rain. Enough that golf was canceled even though the rain had stopped and it’s never canceled.

D was at the World Cup match and she sent videos when goals were scored. Said it was a lot of fun except that it was very hot! They have another game they are going to next weekend. They are definitely into the World Cup.

My sister is the guardian of a teenager that needed something to do today while my sister was in meetings in my town, 3 hours from their home. So, I took the day off of work and my H and I took the teen to Barnes and Noble, half price books, then home for lunch and to play with the cats, then to a movie. It was good to have an excuse to have time off of work and it was a pleasant day with the teen. I think my sister was surprised with how much fun we all had.

Can you explain what led to your sister being this teen’s guardian? If that’s not too personal –

I will send you a PM

Not doing much today since I managed to lightly sprain an ankle yesterday falling backwards into the pool. Whether I stepped wrong on the edge because I was twisting the ankle, or whether I stepped wrong and twisted while falling, I don’t know. Luckily I have nothing I need to do except shower and wash my hair; wasn’t up for it yesterday. And I have Advil and compression socks and ice packs and a cane and an adjustable bed. I even have a walking boot.

Well prepared for foot/ankle issues due to history, nothing recent.

Continuing to work with CPA to sort out our tax info for 2025.

I’m going to go back out to Costco to get my new glasses adjusted. My husband also needs to go by his office which is unfortunately in the opposite direction. We will have lunch out in one location or the other. Picking up two grandkids from preschool later in the afternoon. We will have them over to play, dinner and bath and bring them home around 7:30.

Tonight I will take my house guests to a Chinese restaurant 10 blocks/half a mile away. They are leaving to go back to Norway on Sunday night. Maybe they’ll watch the Pride parade in Greenwich Village earlier Sunday. We were planning to go to Chinatown but they want to take it easy.

Quiet day here. Did my charity thrift shop volunteering this morning. Then went to the lake and relaxed. Went to a new member reception for about a half hour. Getting ready to eat dinner, then off to a ballroom dance party.

Tomorrow…lake all day!

I was back in NYC today, meeting a friend from HS. We toured the costume exhibit at the Met and then had lunch there also. She’s a member so we get discounts! Leftover chicken curry for dinner.

Went for my pre-vacation mani-pedi today. They have the best massage chairs. I did weights yesterday so I did some kind of really pounding setting. Ouch and ahhhhhh.

Did all the other pre-vacay stuff – laundry, went to get cash at the bank, and now I need to pack. I’m surprised how cool it’s so supposed to be at the Grand Canyon. I planned on shorts and a couple of tees and call it done. Might have to give it more thought. Can’t wait to see ds2!
