What are you doing today?

Today, I am waiting for dh and ds2 to get back from breakfast so we can drive to the Grand Canyon! I’ve never seen it and am so excited.

Yesterday was a flight to Vegas and then to Sphere to see Kenny Chesney. We were in a suite, and, wow, what a treat. Last year, we had great seats and a pass to the floor. That was great, but I loved the suite experience. And I didn’t see how the show could beat last year’s, but I loved it even more.

@ChoatieMom those are gorgeous! Every year when I see them blooming in other people’s yards, I tell myself I’m going to plant some that year. And then I don’t. Well, now I have no excuse!

Peonies are hardy and naturalize well! You will enjoy them for years to come!

I planted six (?) peonies last spring - they did GREAT this spring though they are long gone. We had a rough winter but they probably doubled in size. Snip the spent blooms or seed pods so the plants nourishes for next year. My neighbor also gave me several plants this year that I planted several weeks ago - we will see how they do next year!

I’ve been working outside most of the day. Cut the grass around 10:30 to get it out of the way before the 90’s arrive for the week. After that lounged on a float in the pool for an hour and then did a bunch of yard tasks in my bathing suit and sun skirt! Scrubbed the diving board, cleaned the pool accessories, cleaned and filled the bird baths with fresh water (important with the heat coming) and removing some moss from an area around the pool. I still need to trim my strawberry plants which are currently loaded with green fruit.

I think I’ll make enchiladas for dinner. AND, I picked my first poblano today so maybe I’ll stuff it with cheese for a yummy chile relleno!

She gave me six plants that are normally $20 each. I’m actually going to have to give some to my neighbors. I dont have enough full sun anywhere in my yard except one small patch that will fit two at most. She also had some hydrangea trees but I just don’t have space right now, which kills me b/c they are gorgeous! I would have taken one to give away but didn’t have room in my car last night.

Well, we are in ER again for H’s chronic constipation. Sure hope they can help him be more comfortable! This has been a long term issue.

As expected, they’re telling him to call his GI and doing a little testing. He’s supposed to get IV saline to help be less dehydrated & more comfortable.

They’re also doing an abdominal CT with contrast—both oral AND IV.

Hydrangeas are my other favorite. I just planted one this year. Not a tree, but I love the color and hope it does well.

This is our sixth season at the cabin and my first attempt to plant flowers. DH has been pushing to put some color in the yard but after the hosta fiasco of ‘23 (evidently I planted a deer salad bar), I gave up as I’m not one to research what animals won’t eat. In any case, I planted what I admire most in other people’s yards (including a rhododendron) and am keeping my fingers crossed.

Just settling back home after a romantic weekend with my H in Galena IL. Who knew that in less than three hours we could feel like we were in Ireland for the weekend.

I can vouch that in the Midwest, deer leave peonies alone!!!

Yes, I’ve never had an issue with deer and peonies even in rural OH. The deer don’t like the ants that crawl all over them

Today I worked in the basement going through boxes of stuff I thought we needed to move. Like @ClassicMom98 , I’ll be making a trip to Goodwill. Then I worked on what I am hoping is the last box of photos Mom had. If you can do anything for your children, label and date your physical photos if you have them. Several walks with Sabapup. Last night I stayed up way too late reading and I am feeling it today.

Yesterday was a wine pick up in the afternoon followed by a nice dinner out at a French restaurant. The restaurant has an extensive chartreuse menu, so I had one of their cocktails.

Today we did a retirement brunch for my sister. There was going to be a party yesterday, but one of her daughters has a chronic illness that flared, so it had to be postponed. We sisters and BILs pivoted to brunch and a walk around town. Also planned who is coming when to our place on the water for the 4th. I hope the wine weekend actually happens this time, because we have a bunch to get through. #1D and SIL are there with friends now and will stay over, which will add to the fun.

My lower back is giving me fits again and a sit in the hot tub with jets going had better help it.

I struggle with BPPV also. I’ve found the Epley maneuver makes me more nauseous. Look up the Half-somersault, I’ve been doing it daily as a preventative measure and it has really helped me. Hope you feel better soon.

Well, after 3.5 hours, out of ER, had brunch at place near our home H chose and now home. Will make pork stew with pork shoulder chops, green olives, carrots for dinner. H is relieved ER doc says all is well and follow up with GI & PCP. Will send each message on MyChart.

Made H a follow up appt with his PCP for tomorrow and sent a message to GI asking for prompt appt for follow up. Was shocked to be able to see his PCP tomorrow as normally she’s very booked.

Now, have been helping H pre-register for his PCP appointment tomorrow and he asked why I’m so clumsy these days (hmmm, maybe you’re very stressful as a patient and caregiving for you is tiring, especially with these visits to the ER and having to be your scribe and memory and cheery driver all the time, as well as always be catering to how you’re feeling and what you want or don’t want to eat).

Thanks. I’ll give it a try.

I love hydrangeas also! I have two in my front yard and four in my backyard! They are great for shady yards.

Needless to say, I did not get the peonies planted today. And it looks like this is not a great time to plant them unfortunately with the impending heat dome next week. After surveying the location, I only have room for two plants. Dh said he will plant tomorrow for me - hopefully they will survive. We will bring two down to the beach and I’ll give the others to my neighbors who have full sun.

My stomach is still a bit funky. I spent a good portion of the day reading and helping D27 trying to find a rug online for her new living room.

I’ve already had the plumber here.
Now, I have to drive to the dreaded mall to return dresses to LOFT and anthropology. I’ve been avoiding the mall and hate returns.

I’m working from home today. It is a busy week for me as 6/30 is the fiscal year end for almost all of our clients. With the Friday holiday this week I have a lot to get through. I just keep remembering that 8 months from now I will no longer be tied to an accounting calendar.

We are counting the days (26 days) until we are in Bermuda with our sweet granddaughter!

Baking bread and waiting for our handyman to arrive (to spread more bark mulch) before heading out for the groceries we need in advance of DS/DIL’s arrival this Friday. I plan to spend a couple of days later this week making several pull-out dishes (soups and salads mostly) and prepping all the fruits and vegetables for easy meal-making while they’re here, and I’ll make another loaf of sourdough. DH and DS intensely enjoy out-grilling/smoking each other, so I’ll leave the mains to them (but definitely lobster on the 4th).
