What are you doing today?

This morning, first thing, DH and I took his car to get the oil changed and have the brakes checked, etc. We went to breakfast and by the time we were finished, the car was ready. Perfect – I can’t stand being down a car.

I did some research regarding getting a new battery for my phone. The current one is acting weird and needs to be replaced. ubreakifix near me has good reviews and their turnaround time is only three to four hours. BestBuy doesn’t replace batteries in my type of phone! So I had ubreakifix order the battery and hopefully it will be in by the end of the week so I can get my battery before the weekend.

I also contested a ticket I got when I parked at our town’s railroad parking lot. They charged me $50 and said I wasn’t in a valid parking spot! I went to the office to protest but the right person wasn’t there. They instructed me to contest it online, which I did, and I included several photos to show that I Was Right and They Were Wrong. They agreed with me!!

Went to the gym and did legs and cardio. The temperature is really rising here; I have to water my outdoor plants. Then I’ll make dinner and try to plow through the 600-page book I’m not enjoying, but I’m two thirds done and I do want to finish it.

Last night, realized a part in the Bosch dishwasher was broken and looked online to figure out which part & how to get it & repair. Saw a youtube video which made it look pretty easy.

This morning confirmed my warranty was only one year & expired so ordered part and it should get to our state in about a week & I’ll pick it up.

Also noted that premium listed on our statement is >$150 LESS than I was charged & paid so after we finish H’s doc and before I see mine this afternoon, will have a conference call with USAA as they wouldn’t talk with me since she’s policyholder.

We are getting the heat that the rest of the country is getting. I had to turn on my AC after a couple of weeks of gorgeous weather

Walked, went to Walmart. Played mahjong this afternoon where I made my first closed hand. I usually don’t try so I’m proud of myself lol!

Bought a rotisserie chicken for dinner since I was out all day. H is still not feeling well, he’s having a reaction to the wegovy pill which he is not going to continue with. Can’t get into his doctor until next week. Things are busy because of the holiday.

Re-entry from a lovely romantic weekend away. Back to normal exercise, eating and chores. Bleh! But I did walk on the beach this morning and enjoyed tending to the garden. Now to brave the heat for a cubs game.

Mondays are my busy day. Did my volunteer gig this morning, then Mah jongg this afternoon. Came home and grabbed a quick sandwich. Then went off to become the keyboard player for a ukulele group. I’ll be doing back up keyboards. Nice group ,but really, I need to cut back someplace! I’ll see how this goes!

Tomorrow we are going to a memorial service for a close family member. We will see a lot of DHs cousins, and some of his siblings. And the family of the person for whom the service is taking place. It’s only about 2 1/2 hours away.

And it’s heating up here a LOT. High 80’s today, and climbing.

Woke up and had an amazing tour of the Grand Canyon. Stopped for a late lunch in Williams that was so yummy. Now back in Vegas and watching World Cup soccer. Taking it easy tomorrow, our last day here. Have eaten too much.

Up bright and early for a trip to the cancer center with H. We made a brief stop at Whole Foods and then headed home. Given the heat, it’s unlikely we’ll be doing much grilling so I have planned to make shrimp and grits and peanut chili-crisp noodles. Our area has fireworks Thursday and Friday; new art exhibits open on Friday; we used to have a reading of the Declaration of Independence at noon on the 4th but the gentleman who did it passed away recently, so not sure if it will continue. It seems a tradition worth continuing.

OMG dinner sounds amazing. Did you get any of the half off ice cream at Whole Foods??? (A hot topic on the “good buy” thread)

Gum surgery this morning. No fun. Then 2 hour FaceTime with dear HS friend. That was lotsa fun!

This is kind of a “rinse and repeat” week. I still work part time but our org gave everyone this whole week off - what a bonus! I keep telling myself that this is a “rehearsal” for when I stop working, probably early 2027.

Like much of the country it’s extremely hot. Usual routine of exercise and pup walk first thing in the morning but today had to roll out of bed and take the dog for a walk right away - 80 degrees already before 7am!

I’ve been doing that ^^^, working on a checklist of house/life tasks I created just for this week and allowing myself to take a break for an hour each day to float in the pool. Today may be a “2” swim day!

Today’s task including cleaning out all main bathroom drawers and storage. Reorganize and dump old stuff. I had to pick a prescription up and so I brought some expired scripts at their drop off box. I need to make a couple purchase decisions. I stopped at the local produce store for fruits and vegetables and am making a big salad with some air fryer chicken for dinner.

Got a great night sleep, even if the Apple Watch didn’t agree. Had breakfast and then ds1 called while working from home and we all chatted for more than an hour. Dh and I returned the rental vehicle and walked home, buying provisions and a gift for ds1 for hosting us along the way. This hotel has a spa so we paid for a massage for him, something he almost never does for himself (hmmm, where does he get that from?). Tonight we are going to an Italian place for an early dinner and will overeat again and then back to the room for some soccer-watching. We haven’t gambled at all this trip. Maybe we’ll sneak some of that in!

No ice cream - my freezer is full and something tells me it wouldn’t have made the hour drive back home!

Up early after tossing and turning in the basement bedroom to avoid the heat; took an early walk before it got any hotter; thoroughly watered the yard/garden; went with H to the dermatologist to have a mole checked that was atypical enough that it was removed today. Also took care of a couple of chores but now I’m done for the day and getting ready to watch the France match.

Well, another MD appt for H—specialist who squeezed him in. Trying to help sort thru pre-pay carriers (going to quit t-mobile—their $30 lifetime plan just keeps going up, $40 and next $46/line. Boo!

Will have lunch, maybe go to Costco & tmobile. Want them to unlock my SIM, which is tied to them. Then we have afternoon appointment for H at library with digital navigator to help him set up his phone & regain his online calendar.

My day is mostly done. Ran in gross disgusting weather, but at least I remembered to bring a change of clothes to lift in at the gym. The A/C on dripping clothes always feels gross. Then off to work. Not too terrible of a work day - it is payday!

I just decorated our foyer for our secretary. Another co-worker’s W is making a cake. She’s technically getting a promotion starting tomorrow. She will only be working for our department and not split anymore. We don’t normally celebrate anything like this, but we figured she needed some joy in her life. Her H is mid-late 70s. 2 years ago he was working, but had to leave because he was becoming a little forgetful. 2 years later, he is to the point where he needs constant supervision - can’t even dress himself anymore. She takes him 3 days/week to daycare, but we don’t have any in town, so she drives 45 min each way (2xday) to a smaller town that does offer it. A couple of weeks ago, she had to add a caregiver for the remaining days, as he locked himself out of the house and started wandering away. Anyhow, it’s been rough so we figured we would do something to help. Of course, she did also get a third grandkid last week - I believe that trumps this, but still. Oh yes - she also takes care of her 90 year old parents! They are pretty self-sufficient and live 1 mile away, but need help with doctors and such. She is an only child. But sometimes her 90 year old parents help with her H. It’s terribly sad.

Dinner is something simple and then we will drop off the stuff at Goodwill that we didn’t do on Sunday. I did also take away the old sound bar system to the e-recycling center today!

I renewed my drivers license! It’s been at least two renewals since I did it in person, so I was completely unaware that they want us to make an appointment. The appointments available are in August, and my license expires in about a week. Fortunately, they do accept walk-ins if it seems urgent enough (?), and it only took an hour.

Costco and grocery shopping followed. We leave tomorrow to spend the next week or so at our place on the water and the nearest food store is either an hour north or 30 minutes south.

Laundry, packing up clothes to take, dinner, and an ice-cold martini round out the day.

The heat doesn’t arrive here until tomorrow, so our handyman was able to finish the mulching and some stonework today. DH finished building the downstairs bunkbeds, and I completed staining them. The memory foam mattresses-in-a-box arrived yesterday and are lofting overnight so I can put them into the bunks and make up the beds tomorrow. Such fun!

Congrats! I tried to renew mine online today but was rejected. Had to do it in person, and yes, appointments were available for August. Yikes. so decided to make a trek to the DOL… they did not let me walk in but gave a guaranteed appointment for early July. That was my excitement for the day!

We drove to a memorial service a little over two hours from where we live. It was such a wonderful service, and the day was very nice…but hot. We got to see a lot of extended family which was great. The memorial service was for a person we really liked and who we had a strong attachment to.
