What are you doing today?

Was a communion server at church. Went to lego discovery zone with grandson then held him for a snuggle nap.

Then converted his crib into a big boy bed-it was easy and was only a matter of undoing 4 screws to take down rail and putting in 3 screws for the railing. In a related story, spent part of yesterday anchoring the climbable furniture in his room to the wall.

We are still at the beach. It was an absolutely beautiful day. A 20 degree difference from yesterday! I think a lot of people headed home early - the beach was nearly empty. We saw a ton of ponies today.

On the way back to the house we stopped at a produce stand and got local corn and some fruit. S25 and his GF headed home after showering and despite it being a holiday weekend, they made it home in normal time! I think many people left this morning to avoid traffic. Dh and I are leaving either tomorrow night or Tues morning depending on weather.

Dh grilled hamburgers for dinner and we had the corn with it - best corn of the season so far. S23 just got home from work and we are now waiting for the soccer match to start.

Spending the day at our friends’ island cottage. They are our son’s godparents and expect a visit when DS/DIL come up to the cabin. The weather is glorious, so there will be swimming (floating on noodles), fishing, water skiing, and pizza-making. A day on the island is always a summer highlight.

@ChoatieMom lucky you about the weather. We in southern New England are expecting a day of rain…all day. So…enjoy that beautiful weather…and your family.

I’m trying to find out if my mah jongg group will be meeting today. It’s located in a town where there was a microburst on July 4, and power is out and/or roads inaccessible. The other players live in that town, or an adjacent town where 85% don’t have power.

So…I guess I’ll just wait and see what happens.

Monday I also have my volunteer gig, and now I’m the keyboard player for a ukulele group. I’m not sure I really want to do that, but I’m giving it a fair try.

Just got back from a 45 min walk with my dog. It’s not that hot or sunny but it was so humid I was dripping with sweat. So gross!

Weather is iffy today. Not sure if we will go to the beach as storms are predicted early afternoon. Usually we go anyway b/c often they don’t materialize.

OTOH, I do need to hang four sets of curtains while we are down here. D27 has the same kind and said it was a little time consuming, so I may just focus on that and getting a few other things done.

Ran some errands, did chores, took a walk, babying my back in hopes that this sciatic flare passes quickly now that I’ve started a tapered steroid pack. Fingers crossed!

Drove almost 2 hours in pouring rain. Took my mom to an “important” doctor appt. with a specialist it made no sense (to me) to see. Doctor had nothing to say. Drove almost 2 hours in pouring rain home. No thank you. This is sucking the life out of me.

Yesterday, D wanted to go to the shopping center for dinner and to play a game together on our phones, Pokemon, so we did.

Today, we had PT and then went to bank and added her to safety deposit box, so she can get in if needed & updated inventory of the box.

Her friend and college room mate came by with home baked cookies and brought her husband and 6 month old baby.

We’re taking a lighthouse boat cruise out of Portland this morning with DS/DIL and then heading over to the Lobster Shack at Two Lights for lunch. We’ve done something fun with them every day since they arrived and will celebrate DIL’s birthday a bit early tomorrow before they leave Saturday morning. It’s never enough time.

This starts a busy next few days for us. There is a triathlon in our town, and we are hosting the organizers for the next four days. Plus we are both volunteering starting Friday.

Today…artisans guild gallery in the morning (after I make sure the bed is made in the guest room). Stop at farm market to pick up corn. Chicken is marinating now for grilling later. Will need to make caprese salad too. Afternoon will be spent finishing getting everything ready for our guests.

We really enjoy doing this every year. So, while busy, we are looking forward to the fun.

Going to Santana/Doobie Bros concert tonight outside - going to be brutally hot before concert starts. I will bring my big floppy hat that pretty much shades my shoulders and a portable fan!

I wasn’t sure whether to put this here or the insomniacs thread or the tell me something good thread.

For some reason, I woke up at 4. I listened to podcasts and did my puzles and started to feel sleepy, but then I got the idea to clean out unread messages from my email account. I really got into it and have gotten rid of hundreds of unread messages so far. I’m talking putting filters on my mail so that I can see unread messages from my former Ford dealer from 2009! lol This is satisfying to see my unread messages number beow 1,000. Don’t judge.

But now I’m sleepy and so will ty to go back to bed. If not, I’ll watch Wimbledon and start my real day.

I had a full day yesterday, beginning with a routine dental visit. My long time dentist retired, and my long time hygienist stayed with the new owner for almost year. She just retired, and I wasn’t looking forward to a new hygienist after so many years with the same one. I was really apprehensive when I found out that the new hygienist had car trouble & the dentist would be cleaning my teeth. Fortunately, she was very gentle.

After my dentist appointment, I met my favorite former coworker for a very long lunch. Her D was 4 when I met her, and now she’s off to college in a few weeks. It was great to catch up on our personal lives, and when we finally got to the work drama, I was (once again) glad I retired. She jokingly asked me if I wanted to do a particular job that is currently unfilled for ten hours a week … and I didn’t even hesitate before saying NO.

We went to an open mic at a local comedy club. We really enjoy seeing comics workshop their material, and some of our favorite local comics were trying out new stuff last night. It was a lot of fun.

Today I have to get ready for a trip to see my MIL. We never know what version we’ll get when we visit, but my fingers are crossed that it will include at least one wakeful day so that we can chat with her.

Came in late last night from the Doobie Bros/Santana concert, and what a show. How they can play for as long as they do is amazing - no stopping just non-stop music. Thoroughly wonderful night and it even rained a bit before we got there so temp dropped to a sultry 82 or so. Slept in this morning and skipped water aerobics and reading my new Calamity Girls ebook on the back deck listening to the many birds I think I know who’s who by now (thanks Merlin). Just going to piddle around the house today and have a video meeting with Financial Advisor at 5:15 - not sure I like him. We had our first meeting via phone on Tuesday and going over our financial plan tonight - he sent and it’s fine, I just don’t get a great vibe from him. Young, almost feel like, we don’t have enough money for him to mess with us. Not sure why I get that feeling but I do. We may not sign with him, will see.

Taking a cruise around the lake on DS/DIL’s last day with us. We have dinner reservations at a nice restaurant to celebrate DIL’s birthday (early) and will come back to the cabin for a special kind of strawberry shortcake dessert. We will gift her a necklace and earrings I selected from the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show we attended in February, and I will also be giving her a few pieces of other jewelry of mine that I no longer wear that DS says she would love to have.

Trying not to think about them leaving in the morning as DIL says they may not be able to come out for Thanksgiving now due to their Christmas plans and her limited vacation days.

Glad this week is almost done. Horrible Wednesday, H had a cancer visit yesterday afternoon - that’s a 1/2 day affair. Mostly good - the number that brought us back after only 2 months is now normal, but now another is slightly low, so the next appointment is 3 months instead of 6. Doctor isn’t worried. It’s just time and a pretty good hunk of $$$ with each visit…

Today I had online training in the morning followed by a not fun meeting after lunch. I am done - but still must stay to 5pm… Workout this morning was fine, but I am oh so sick of hot & humid weather… with no end in sight

The chimney guy is supposed to be coming this afternoon to see what’s in our chimney. It’s capped, but for several months we’ve been hearing scratching between 4:30-5am when H & I are getting ready for work/workout. I figured it was a mouse that would be stupid to come down into a house of 4 cats. Last week it started screeching. Yeah - even I can’t ignore that. The chimney guy tried to convince us it was something else, because he capped it. And then it was “Are you sure it’s not in your attic?” Uh no. Last week the sound location dropped lower considerably. It now sounds like if we stuck our head in the opening, we’d be face to face with it. We have had bats in the house a few times before we had it capped. That would be my first guess, though the chimney guy said he removed possums last week.

Waffles for dinner.

Addendum to the day …

A parakeet (?) flew into our garage, and with some effort dh caught it. It has a band on one leg. We have no idea whether it’s a pet or it’s banded for some research or tracking. Dh fed it broccoli and called the city animal rescue, and they said to bring it in so he’s on his way across town. I miss Tweety already.

I was able to go back to sleep, got up, worked out, supported dh’s bird adventure and now waiting for soccer.

I had several parakeets as a kid. They are fun feathered friends.

@ChoatieMom - one of my favorite pieces of jewelry is a necklace my MIL had made for me. Her aunt, who I was close with, had died and MIL thought I should have something, so she took a beautiful pin and had it converted to a necklace. I’m sure your DIL will be thrilled to have some pieces from you.

The endless cycle of humidity and rain continues. Yesterday I continued the endless task of eliminating stuff from the house. Today I went to the gym, the pharmacy, the bookstore to pick up a book, and the co-op. I’m looking at the packages of raspberries I bought earlier this week (buy 2, get 1 free) and have decided to make a clafoutis as I can’t bear to throw all that money away.

H has been overseas for work this week, so I had grand ideas of all the things I’d get done this week…yeah. Did make a dent, though! Was up til 4:30 this am wiping down kitchen cabinets, watering plants and logging it on the spreadsheet, fixed the legs on a small dresser and am reloading it (after trying to cull some of it). Had hopes of sewing this week. I did get most of my propagations potted – now to find a place for them to land that’s not in our house. Cleaned the kitchen bay window.

Had a cardiology appointment at 7:30 this morning – had to leave at 6:15 to compensate for traffic. Am now on cardiologist #5 in this practice, but this guy deals with the intersection of cardiology and oncology, is nice to have someone who gets it! My echo a month ago had some concerning results, so we talked about that. He looked at my previous tests and found that my pulmonary presssures hadn’t really changed much, so I don’t need to squeeze in a cardac catherization before we leave for Ukraine. Will be tinkering with my diuretics and adding a second diabetes med. Apparently Farziga and Jardiance help with cardiac failure and are slightly diuretic. This will partially substitute for the double dose of diuretic I’m currently taking.

Synagogue stuff continues as I’m trying to keep the process for our new home moving along. So while not president, the workload continues.

Also found out my dentist of 32 years, who is also a personal friend, is retiring. I am devastated. She is younger than I am! Her H is a good bit older, so I hope it’s not because his health is declining. We drive two hours to see her after she left her practice in DC. I will see her next Fri. The argument that all my established doctors are here is becoming less of a compelling argument to stay in this area.

So after I came home from the cardiologist and having slept less than two hours last night, I went to sleep and hid from it all.

H returns tomorrow. His 65th birthday was yesterday, so we will celebrate this weekend. Need to come up with a plan.
