What are you doing today?

Today DH and I hd to do something no one should ever have to do. We attended the calling hours for the young adult child of one of our long time friends. We have known this family since before their kids were born. We are glad we went to support our friends, but it was a sad reason to see them.

Taking it slow after a minor medical procedure. The weekend is shaping up to be nice. We have plans to go see a movie in concert at the Symphony - fun! And take the old grumpy cat to the vet - not fun!

I went to the post office and sent off about $350 worth of silver to Replacements. The silver was inherited from my grandmother but it didn’t match anything else that I own. Time to get rid of it. Then I stopped at my doctor’s office to get them to update my insurance info. Their billing office thinks I have no coverage, and they’ve been billing me for my April 6 physical exam.

DH decided he would take the dog to the park today, not me, so I went to the gym and did legs. I will probably feel it tomorrow.

Tacos for dinner. I had to stop at Whole Foods after the gym to get guac, a tomato, and cheddar cheese. Exciting, I know.

Drove 2.5 hours each way to get together with two other couples and one single we’ve known since college/grad school. We came from several directions. All in our early - mid-60s. After discussing social security and Medicare we turned to funeral planning preparations - one couple had done an admirable amount. To end that discussion, someone said “can we talk about something else now? How about hemorrhoids?” :joy: Old friends are the best for having a wide ranging discussion and a lot of laughs among the serious topics.

Does DH typically take you to the park?

Finally able to sleep at nights ( well, except for the senile elderly cat who will yowl & yowl for no apparent reason several times in the middle of the night and wake me up). The ac for middle and basement level hasn’t been worked for the 8-9 days or so. Electrician came out and replace the thermostat, but that didn’t help so HVAC techs were out here yesterday. The unit is 25+ years old and on its last legs. The coolant had leaked out. The techs were able to recharge the system, but said it was just temporary fix. The fix might last a month or it might last until the end of the cooling season. Either way, the HVAC needs replacement. But at least for now it’s cool enough to sleep at night. It had been hovering around 78-80 at night. That’s just too hot to sleep.

Spent today researching flights and fares. I want to go visit my intermountain west daughter for my newest granddaughter’s first birthday in August. Since I’m already flying mostly all the way across the country, I decided maybe I ought to make a side trip to my old home town to visit friends. I didn’t get see one couple last time I was there (3 years ago) because they were out of town on vacation. Both are in their early 90s so I want to make the effort to see them while they’re still healthy and mentally intact. Anyway, I found a non-stop flight for each leg of my trip–which is tough to do. Once I get the timing cleared with both the VA family and IMWest family, I’ll buy my tickets and then start calling/texting/emailing folks to set up lunches/dinners and make hotel and car reservations for my 3 days in my old town.

Besides, researching tickets this afternoon, I baked brownies for the grands.

Tomorrow after dinner we’re all (including the 3 grand kids) going to Wolftrap to hear the National Symphony play. We even got actual seats this year, not just lawn seats, so if it rains–which it’s supposed to–we won’t get soaked.

Well. H decided we’re headed home tomorrow. Not a big deal, but I was planning on staying til Monday.
Cleaned bathrooms, swept, vacuumed, etc. #1D is headed here with friends on Thursday, which means more than a lick and a promise.

An Old Fashioned while sitting on the deck, watching the tide come in. (Liber OF syrup makes it very easy; highly recommend.)

#2D has another house in mind, so many back-and-forth texts and calls between her and H. They didn’t get the last house they looked at, and it’s hard for her BF to accept that this is a marathon, not a sprint.

Bummer about the house. Little Kid’s husband was very impatient, too. He almost made them buy that infamous old house in GL with a giant sequoia in the front. I talked them out of it, and I’m sad about it. Because a developer got it and destroyed the tree!!!

Your kids shouldn’t despair. The right one is out there! Waiting for them.

We’ve been working hard, but this weekend should be nice. This afternoon, we’re going to see the closing performance of “1776” at the Maine State Music Theater with friends. I knew I’d seen the musical in 1976, but my sister just reminded me that our folks paid for just the two of us to see it by ourselves at the Country Dinner Playhouse - she was 11 and I was 14. I remember I really liked it. We’ll go to a favorite restaurant afterwards.

Tomorrow we’ll go to church, have dinner with one set of friends, and then go to a swanky surprise party for a good friend who’s turning 60. Sounds like we’ll have an amazing dinner!

In between fun times, I will be working. I have a project that’s going well, but it’s just HUGE. I can’t seem to get to the finish line.

My son in Poland is excited because after a first bank rejected their mortgage application since my DIL is Syrian, a second back accepted it. Yay! I’m so happy for them. They’ve been working hard to save money. DIL is still supporting her sister who has moved to Germany as a pharmacist intern. I’m impressed with this young woman, too - she’s already fluent in Arabic and English, and now she’s had to learn German while pursuing a challenging career. I text with her and hope to meet her some day.

DS/DIL left this morning after a wonderful week of fun. To postpone the emptiness I always feel when they leave, I’m doing laundry and cleaning the cabin top to bottom. Not sure what I’ll do tomorrow to deal with the letdown. I do have an e-book to finish before it expires on Monday, so I guess there’s that.

D wants us to play the online game with her at the shopping center and then we have dinner at a restaurant I chose for my birthday (which was yesterday). H and I are happy to accompany D and play the game with her. Normally, it’s just H & me and D plays in CA.

Yesterday, we ran errands, had quick Panda express meal, Costco run and then played online game at shopping center. Had a fun happy hour at restaurant nearby and then an early night.

Playing Pokemon Go. It Go Fest!

The largest shopping center in our state was FULL of people playing Pokemon Go (including us). They were glued to their phones and as far as I could see, only the eateries were getting many customers. Maybe folks will return after the Pokemon Go Fest ends after Sunday. We only played and then bought some lunch. There were tons of people to play with—strangers were fine!

More Pokemon Go Fest today. It was pleasant when we arrived at mall about 10 but we were happy to leave mall by about noon as it was getting uncomfortably crowded. We all caught as many of the right creatures as we wanted. We couldn’t find a table to eat in at food court & it was hot & stuffy so we were glad to leave. We have a play to attend in 1.5 hours anyway.

Arggh, just had a crown fall off. And iirc, this is the tooth that was eating itself from the inside last year in February and the dentist had to work hard to manage the crown on what was left of the tooth. We knew it was a Project Hail Mary and I had the option of taking the tooth out then. I am pretty sure more of the original tooth came out but I could be wrong. So likely will need to get it pulled and replaced. At least it held up through all of my/our travels over the last year.

Just hoping now I can still manage Comic-Con in 10 days, but don’t have high hopes for our Bastille Day dinner out on Tuesday. I have an emergency appointment at the dentist Tuesday afternoon but hope he can squeeze me in tomorrow just to look.

Today was a relaxing day. We had a nice waffle and bacon breakfast with our guests. They left, and I did four loads of laundry. Then I went up to the lake for a couple of hours.

Our Artisans Guild was having an artist talk (two artists in the current gallery show, and a photographer) who discussed their art careers, and why they do what they do. It was really excellent and I am glad I went.

Then a quiet dinner, and now just relaxing and catching up with my email, etc.

Today I had a teeth cleaning and learned that an old crown has decay under it. Oh joy. It never ends with my teeth, does it. I mean, it really never ends.

Then I moseyed around Marshall’s for a while and came home with two adorable tops and a nice pair of sunglasses. One top is going back; I didn’t realize how deep the armholes are and when I raise my arms you can see my bra.

Then to the gym, and tonight I’m going to a talk at a group I belong to by Connecticut’s Poet Laureate. Should be interesting – maybe. DH will be on his own for dinner, which means Chinese food.
