I spent a day walking around lower Manhattan including the East Village, Soho, Chinatown, the financial district, and downtown Brooklyn with a few subway rides as well. It was hot, hot, hot
!
H and I went to meet with digital navigator. He helped H so he doesn’t accidentally keep turning off his phone when he puts it in his pocket.
After that, I met with him for the balance of H’s 45 minute appt as well as mine. I learned how to create an account in Canva and how to search there using as descriptive as possible a search. The more info you feed in your query, the more likely the results will make you happier. I want to be able to create fliers and newsletters He also helped me to learn how to make a print button so people can print handouts from our website.
There is a free version and a $13-14/month paid version. Also with paid version you have can have more projects at the same time, ask more queries and have access to more artwork. They update site every week!
I’ve used Canva for years. The Pro subscription is nice. You can apply as a non profit for a reduced (or free?) pro account but they are choosy who they award to.
Playing in a golf outing with a friend. Sounds great in theory -’ but it will be 100 degrees out there today. Wish me luck!
Hot here today too! Working register at my thrift shop volunteer place in AC! The. Going to the lake about 1:30 for the mah jongg club. We will find a shady spot with a breeze! Then I stay there managing the club probably until about 8.
So far, I feel OK from my implant surgery yesterday. I can’t stand the taste of that mouthwash I have to use, but I’ll cope!
Enjoying an overcast day and doing my routine Wednesday laundry/cleaning. I also plan to (re)paint my KitchenAid stand mixer a few shades lighter than the kitchen cabinets I painted a couple of seasons ago. This will be the fourth repaint on the mixer as I consider it countertop “jewelry,” a kitchen accessory much like a necklace. I love the old girl and try to keep her current.
Celebrating 42 years.
Not going to the England-Argentina game ![]()
eta: just got home from our fun “day away” in time to watch the game at home. And already a bit of a scuffle 3 minutes in.
@ChoatieMom : I enjoy hearing about all the things you do to make your surroundings gorgeous. You’ve become my inspiration. (Although I have yet to take action.) Every time I walk up my front path, I think, “I really should remove those weeds between the flagstones and put stone dust in there, like ChoatieMom.”
I was stung by something (bee? wasp?) on my right ring finger Monday afternoon and now not only is my finger swollen, but my entire hand is swollen and my arm itches. Booked an appointment at my doctor’s office for this morning. I have had stings before, but never had this happen.
An exterminator is coming early afternoon. Hopefully he can locate the hive and it’s on my property so he can take care of it today.
That’s the highlights.
Doctor’s appointment his morning. It’s a 6 week follow up on the surgery I had in June. Will stop and up a smoked brisket sandwich for lunch on my way home. Might go buy a pie too. But we still have lemon cake left….
Arranging meet ups with friends when I got to ABQ next month via phone & email. Scheduling business appointments while I’m there too.
Need to call my hairdresser to make an appointment with her because my hair is getting shaggy.
It’s supposed to hit 100° here this afternoon. Not planning on spending any time outside today.
Thanks—applies for a nonprofit account. Submitted my IRS determination letter & sent them our website info. Fingers crossed that we get approved.
I don’t think it’s a blanket approval for non-profits and I don’t know their parameters but it’s worth a try! Our org has a bigger account so many at the very least you’ll be offered a good discount.
Today I went to the dentist. It’s hot, humid and the smoke from the Canadian wildfires is BAD! I will stay in and relax in the AC this afternoon. Watch the World Cup
We have air quality alerts here. I’m glad I said no to my 79 year old friend to play golf tomorrow. We are going to lunch tomorrow instead. We are bringing lunch to a friend who had a hip replacement with 2 surgeries because her osteoporosis is so bad, the first surgery failed.
Ladies let this be your cautionary tale. Osteoporosis is silent until it isn’t and you have to get something done or fall. It’s ridiculous it got to this point. Self inflicted also IMO.
I went to my volunteer job this morning and was going to babysit my grandson this afternoon. My DIL texted that my son hadn’t been feeling well. 10 minutes later he texted he tested positive for Covid. I’m not sure what prompted him to test but I’m glad he did. He traveled for work the end of last week so maybe someone else tested positive.
I think I’ll go pick up a few books at the library and hit up Trader Joe’s or Target while I’m in that area.
I’m hoping my other local kid and grandkids come over for a swim later. Luckily they haven’t been with the sibling.
Started the day by picking up husband from where he dropped off his car for upholstery repair. Then we went to breakfast at a local place where they ask if you need a menu because people eating there early on a weekday are almost always locals who’ve been before. We did not need a menu! Then a drive along Shelter Island to admire the view. Back home where I tuned in to my online Tai Chi class but my sprained ankle is still tender so not much I can do.
Now husband is watching soccer and I will sunbathe until I get hot (warm/humid enough for AC, although nothing like some of you are experiencing), then a dip in the pool and some water exercises for the ankle. I need to be able to walk/stand Comic-Con later next week.
I went to my Wednesday morning volunteering job at the local nonprofit farm. We harvested green beans, it was 92 degrees when we were done at 11 ! Home for a swim and shower then ran a couple errands. I’m done for today!
Hot and hazy here in the Valley. Sabapup and I are not enjoying being outdoors but we persevere!
Today I had Pilates and then ran a few errands. I think D is coming down this weekend so I had to tidy up the guest room a bit. There’s still so much stuff to get rid of. Watched England/Argentina, contacted my cardiologist as my insurance hasn’t received a preauthorization request for an upcoming test. Coached H through follow-up with his PCP on the GLP-1 bridge program. Crossing my fingers they finally get their act together!
Had a great night of sleep. Got up early to work out. Went to the optometrist to get new glasses. Did something different post-surgery … got progressives with transition lenses. What a chunk of change. But, insurance will pay 80/20 of some base rate that we are still waiting to receive.
Then we went and picked something up from Buy Nothing and then to lunch. Dh made me laugh so hard when I told him about my mahjong-hosting reservations (see that thread), and I told him that perhaps HE is part of the problem! Then we came home and watched the soccer game. So, so good. After dinner, we will do our mid-month financial reconciliation.
Wasted time on the interwebs this morning. Then went to the gym and had a very good workout. I did legs – I’d like to do abs, but my lower back has been bothering me so I’m avoiding using that part of me for a few more days. This afternoon I read a lot of my book – Tana French’s The Secret Place. I was up to page ~150 and was getting confused – there are a lot of characters – so I decided to start over and read again from the beginning. I’m glad I did.
S2 called, and I was greatly relieved to learn that, while his company seems very messed up and dysfunctional, it’s not just him. He said several of his peers have quit with no other job lined up.
Chinese food for dinner.
A dentist visit this morning for the semi-annual cleaning. At some point I’ll look for a new dentist, because sometimes this guy annoys me. It’s done, though, so I can forget about it for another 6 months.
I dropped off the used Nespresso capsules and refrained from buying any - highly unusual! Fruit and veggie shopping at the grocery store. All peel-able or cookable. I’m going through salad withdrawal.
It’s warm here today, but rain is expected overnight and tomorrow, then back to warm and sunny for the weekend and beyond.
