How does the price compare to a regular crown?

No idea what a regular crown costs, but with their in house “VIP Membership”, which costs $50/year, total was $1705.

We covered everything you could want to know about decorating your KitchenAid in this thread where I described my “technique.”

Painting a stand mixer is about the easiest project you’ll ever do.

Today I will go to the gym – not sure yet what body part I’ll exercise since my lower back is still bothering me a bit. I have to water the plants both inside and outside, cut up a huge watermelon, call Fidelity to transfer 529 funds to S1’s 529 arrangement, pay our car tax, and do laundry.

What can I say – it’s a full life!!

We’re heading to our cabin with our son. We haven’t celebrated his birthday yet, so we’ll pick up a cake on the way. We’re also going to buy a big box of fireworks since we canceled our July 4th trip up there.

I have asked everyone connected with my dad’s affairs not to contact me the whole weekend unless it’s urgent! I need to breathe…

The weather is so glorious today that I scrapped my indoor plans to spend time in the yard doing all those unimportant things I never get to. I think I’ll read and nap on the porch swing this afternoon until it’s time for evening cocktails and DH’s grilled salmon for dinner. Just a beautiful breezy day of nothing.

The sky is clear today for the first time all week, which is beautiful.

We are getting ready to go to calling hours for the husband of a couple we know…who died after a short illness. This one is going to be a hard one…we know the entire family. Such wonderful people.

We had our guy over to trim the 10-foot high laurel out back. He is the sweetest, and does a fab job. He started at 9am, and his truck was in front of the garage, so no way was I leaving. When he left, he told H to “go take care of your wife”. Apparently, old women in their bathrobes at noon are sick. I’m not, I’m just lazy.

I eventually showered and dressed, and went on to do some closet and dresser cleaning and organizing.

The skies cleared, and cocktail hour meant a Bijou and some cheese and crackers on the deck.
H used the sous vide on a steak, which we split. My portion was accompanied by asparagus and a 12-yo domestic Nebbiolo. Yum.

Tomorrow we’re going to a tasting at a winery we’re members of. Retirement is the best.

Retirement is the best. No argument here!

Today I’ll piddle around the house in the morning. I have lunch in a nearby town with a group I belong to; we have lunch at a different restaurant every month. I’m looking forward to it. Then this afternoon, weather permitting, I’ll take the dog for my rigorous walk in the woods and chat with my woods buddies at the end. Not sure yet what dinner will be. DH remarked last night that we’ve had rice with dinner for many consecutive nights. So I guess I’ll do potatoes tonight.

We got one of those loud warnings about a potential severe storm here for later today. If that doesn’t happen, we will have dinner at our lake.

Really nothing special planned for today!

Hiding from the smoke.

Did tai chi 9-10am outside in a class and slowly realized it was not fog. Drove home to do inhaler and turn on the air filter!

I put a pork loin in the crockpot, made a blueberry pie, and cleaned. I’m sitting & watching a bit of the Open now. GD is spending the night, and she’ll be over later this afternoon.

A friend from NoVA ( where we lived for decades) is on the way to visit. I finished cleaning the house , baked banana bread, made a pasta salad and grocery shopped. Also took granddog for a 2 mile walk earlier before it got too hot. ( my friend is a dog person, she knows he’s here).

So I’m taking a break right now before she gets here.

I figure I will serve some lunch when she gets here and we might take a drive around and go out to dinner later.

We already discussed what she wants to do/ see here and a few are indoor things which is good because it’s going to be hot until Tuesday.

The smoke hit us decently hard yesterday around 10am. I wasn’t sure if it’d be gone enough to run this morning, so I thought I’d wake in the middle of the night and check. Still iffy. I decided to split the difference and cut it back to 25 min outside before the gym opened. At 6:30am the heat index was already 85 degrees. Please let me sleep until October. It was rough. Then 35 min on the stairmonster and a little lifting.

Played piano while H got in a workout in the shed before heading over to see someone’s place. He’s a well known guy in my city and became friends with H at the gym. He is a most interesting person. He is 80+ years old. His family history is a local merchant business in town, later a men’s shop. I believe he taught English at the local uni. Anyhow, he travels all over the world collecting art and knick knacks, does photography and enters it into competitions, published a bunch of (rather strange) books. Most impressive to me is that he built himself - in the last 10 years - his apartment over the buildings his family has owned over over 100 years. All of the woodworks, walls, kitchen, bathrooms - all by himself while in his 70s and 80s! Very interesting guy. But his space is soooooooo full of stuff. H loved it. I was twitchy. @ChoatieMom would have dropped dead from horror.

Then I came home, ate pizza and tried to take a nap. Shortly we will see the Odyssey. And after that dinner and who knows. And my phone is being really weird and the cursor isn’t where I’m typing.?

Just commenting that my phone has been doing the same with the cursor on and off this week - I figured it was just my phone which needs to be replaced or the fact that I was out of the country in a rural area.

Editing to say there is a forum issues thread on this:

Well…waiting for the second batch of rain to come here. The first round was not very long, and we had no wind (but oddly, our lights flickered one time). It’s supposed to rain again about 10. I’ll be sound asleep by then…I think!

Good part of day, made it into the pool for a nice swim.

Not good part of the day, sprained ankle is healing except for sore point on outside, everything else has been improving and I can walk normally. I’m playing around with lacing techniques to reduce pressure point. My concern is that there might be a hairline fracture somewhere. And I’m going to Comic-Con next Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. I do have a doctor appointment Tuesday afternoon (well, almost a doctor, junior resident). If I need a boot or cane, I will ask for an ADA badge for the Con. Still a lot of walking though.

Other not so good, we’ve has two more smaller breakouts of tiny ants. One in the kitchen, one in the bathroom where second breakout was. Husband drills a hole in the wall. and squirts in the poison our exterminator recommended. But ingress of latest incursion is not obvious. We have learned that glass cleaner kills them instantly.

We had two huge thunderstorms last night. Thankfully, the tree I’ve been worried about – it’s only about 20 feet from the house – didn’t do anything. I’ve got one estimate to remove it and another guy coming tomorrow. I can’t wait to get it removed. We’ve been having way too many major thunder and windstorms.

This morning I’m going to the Steering Committee meeting for a group I belong to – it will be boring, but the President wants us all there in person. She’s offered donuts as an incentive. Donuts do not incentivize me, but I’ll be there anyway.

Then to the gym.

Then to meet up with a friend from the dog park. She’s a sweetheart: She made ribs for herself and was talking about how fantastic they are, so she offered several of us a portion. I’m meeting her at her house to get mine, and then we’ll do a dog walk at the woods. I’m eager to compare her ribs to mine, since I think I make some really good ribs.

Took my dog for a long walk this morning.

Tomorrow is our 30th anniversary. We already celebrated by going on a trip to southern Italy in late April. We do have dinner reservations tomorrow night at a locally owned steak house. The weather is nice today though, so I suggested we have brunch at a waterfront restaurant we’ve been wanting to go to for years! They don’t take reservations. We actually tried to go there for our anniversary on a Wed night years ago, thinking it would be less busy mid-week, but it was an hour wait so we left. We plan to be there before they open so we hopefully don’t have too wait long.

Have a few things around the house to do later today. I also want to finish my kindle book so I can turn my wifi back on and download several other books I have checked out on Libby b/f they expire.

Totally forgot - we will also watch the World Cup final today!
