Woke up early and showered, etc., because a guy was coming at 8 to give us an estimate on removing popcorn and painting and other things. Really liked him, and the bid came in about what we expected. This evening, I reached out to a general contractor to get a bid from them. They would be doing more work than the popcorn/painting people. Oh, and heard back from the landscape guy. Ugh. So much money is about to be spent.
Finished watching Ride or Die. Highly recommend.
Went to get bloodwork done. Set up a lunch with a friend for tomorrow. Waiting for the late WNBA game.
Sent out info about our 20th anniversary event. Called the news and media folks to be sure they received it and answer any questions. Fingers crossed they decide to do SOMETHING!
They SOUNDED pretty interested, especially since it’s both live AND via zoom and has interesting, respected speakers. Oh and it’s FREE & open to the public and includes food, demos & exhibits.
Also, I spilled a glass of water on my ancient keyboard and then it seemed to be acting up. We turned it upside down and put it over a towel and will see if it revives. Luckily H had 3 other spare keyboards, one of which I am now using and actually prefer over the one I drowned! I guess it might have been a blessing in disguise as the keyboard I damaged may have been 30+ years old and was quite discolored. This one matches the computer and monitors better as it is black like them and not a discolored, aged putty color.
Today: Gym, haircut, visit to wound care with DH, going to my dog park friend’s who’s going to give me the ribs. We won’t walk with the dogs because it’s supposed to be Big Rain.
My big goal for today is not not bite someone’s head off, or stab them with a fork. Just overly grouchy and grumbly today. This weather will be the death of me. My run this morning stunk - so gross and humid. I forgot to bring a second change of workout clothes to the gym, so I had to lift in dripping wet shorts/sport bra. I swapped out my tank for a long sleeved thermal shirt that I always have stashed in my bag. That was lovely. I went home early, but somehow was still running behind schedule getting to work.
Fortunately, I have use or lose time to take. I’m taking 2 hours this morning to play piano and hopefully get in a good nap. I hope that will reset my attitude. Then back to work for a meeting. Nothing planned after dinner. Read and watch TV I guess. And wait for October.
Sitting here in the hotel breakfast room wasting time on the “no gifts” thread waiting for DH to get ready to head out for another fun day in Vermont. Will update this evening.
I should probably spend part of the day having my head examined as I willingly chose to get out of bed before 6 and start a deep cleaning of my bathroom and the tile in the dining room. I mean on my knees scrub a dub dubbing while listening to podcasts. I blame my cataract surgery for increased ability to see dirt, people being in the house giving us bids on work that we want done and the impending mahjong gathering next week. I already have fielded calls from my dentist and a general contractor. I normally won’t answer my phone before 9, but I guess this is my life now.
I may skip a formal workout as I’ve already worked up a sweat. Will jump in the shower and meet local bff for a long lunch.
All this cleaning is bringing back my Marie Kondo itchy feelings. i want to get rid of so much stuff! Dh is a pat rack, and I am a minimalist. Are any of you watching Ride or Die? I love where the assassin lives. Almost nothing in there! I know people like lots of pillows and books and tchotchkes, and certainly I can appreciate how put together those rooms can look, but I definitely have a less-is-more aesthetic. What is dh going to do when he has to pack up his room for the work being done? He will take forever. And, no, I’m not helping him! All my clutter is family pictures, and I‘ll just throw those in a tub and be done.
Ok, back to cleaning. I wish I had started an Apple Watch workout first thing this morning. My rings would be closed before 9 .
@Youdon_tsay - you are like that old military recruiting commercial where they said something like “ you get more done by 9 AM than most people do all day “.
Minimalist married to a pack rat- I know the feeling.
Back from the dentist cleaning with no new problems, whew, except an old filling is slightly leaking. I can (A) wait for it to fall out and replace it then or (B) proactively replace it in the next couple of months. I picked option B.
The exterminator has come and gone and sprayed inside the walls and outside the house and hopefully we will stop seeing tiny flying ants.
Now all that’s left is my doctor appointment where she should send me for an X-Ray to see if I have anything more than a healing sprain. I still mean to go to Comic-Con Thursday and beyond and bought a lightweight folding cane (forgot who recommended it on CC but it looks great) to bring along.
Edit to thank @oldmom4896 for mentioning the cane - and it’s the perfect color to go with my green Regency style gown. I’ll just say I’m Lady Danbury.
Sorry about the leaking filling. Argh! Glad it can be remedied fairly easily. I did bring along a lightweight folding cane when my fracture had healed (just barely) and we were going on overseas trip. Fortunately, I never needed it, but it provided me with peace of mind, knowing it was there and it fit well folded in my suitcase.
I started off the morning by sitting in the hot tub, drinking my espresso, and doing my puzzles.
Off then to the credit union to get the cashier’s (gift) checks for #2D. That whole thing - who is buying the house, who is on the loan, do we fill in the letter for BoA (no!) has consumed my dear husband for the past week and a half. I don’t care what BFs parents are doing, I don’t need to research anything, because we are just handing over checks. D & her BF are 33 yo and can work it out. If she asks a question, fine, but searching for stuff to confuse the issue is ridiculous.
Anyway, a quick stop at the grocery store, home to pack up the car, and now on the ferry to our other place.
Why we have to pack up is a whole other problem haha.
The electricity went out. It’s windy but not stormy. We have underground power lines so the whole neighborhood is out. The good news is that the outage goes to priority since it affects a large number of homes
My husband is golfing, so you know it’s not a tornado lol!
I ordered something from Talbots. It was lost in the shipping system on 07/09. Ordered on 07/04. I have to wait until the package doesn’t move for 14 days until it’s considered lost. I just want to cancel the order. Let’s hope I can do that on Friday when it will have been 2 weeks. Ridiculously frustrating!
Walked the trail. Dropped off a package at the ups store. Ate gas station chicken strips. Our friends said they were delicious. They were fine.
May have to go out to dinner if the electricity is offline. Don’t want to open the refrigerator unnecessarily lol!
After watching the process, we had an amazing lunch at their restaurant seated at a table overlooking the falls that supplement the factory’s power. We started with tomato-basil soup and entrees of lion’s mane mushroom cakes and wild mushroom quiche accompanied by champagne—served on/in SP pottery and glassware, of course.
Then, we wandered over to the WhistlePig tasting room to sample a couple flights of their ryes. Their previous master distiller came from Maker’s Mark and hosted a couple of classes/tastings at our community in AZ, even did a bottle run with our community name/logo. I’m not a fan of rye, but I’m always up for a taste. Their tasting room is in a beautiful old Victorian house next to the glass factory.
True Story: Growing up, my brother and I did not get along. I stabbed him in the thigh with a fork at the dinner table once. My mother never allowed us to sit next to each other again.
(He would shoot his BB gun into my bed to wake me up.)
Finally clear air and nice temperatures here. Did a bit of yard work but we got a new puppy and the day is devoted to him. I’m not sure what we were thinking but he will keep us moving. Our 6 year old flat coated retrievers is slowly coming to accept him.
Gym, haircut, nap. Then to my friend’s to pick up the ribs. We had unbelievable rain here this afternoon. I wasn’t going to be able to walk the dog, so I brought him with me to my friend’s. He enjoyed it – new smells.
