It was an errand day. Paid our property taxes (what fun). Then went and picked up small glass disks that go between the wood top and glass on our end table (which was a 1950’s student desk). Then dropped off some items at my charity thrift shop. Then to the grocery store…whew. Then to the farm market for farm fresh tomatoes, and while I was there, I had an ice cream cone…why not.
We are under a tornado watch until 9 so my watercolor class was postponed until Friday. I’ll attempt to paint something here at home all by myself…that should be funny.
Tomorrow, making dinners for a neighbor who had surgery on Friday.
Back from the doctor and X-ray and yay, just a sprain, no broken bone (X-ray tech couldn’t technically diagnose but basically said no worries). And even though I couldn’t get an appointment with my regular doctor, it turns out she was supervising the junior resident and when she heard who the patient was, popped in to see me. I love UCSD Health.
So off to Comic-Con in two days with compression socks, Voltaran and Tylenol per doctor, my lovely new collapsible cane, and perhaps an ADA sticker on my badge just to see how it might help.
The tornado watch has been lifted…and no rain in the forecast anymore either for today. Since my water color class was cancelled, I decided I needed to practice on my own.
My dentist calls me the CEREC Queen! I have so many of them – and after seeing her this week, I get to have two more before she retires in October. She has been my dentist since 1994 and will miss her dearly.
As for today – ran five errands between 8 am and 11, came home to take a nap. Had a Teams meeting on the rental we’re trying to get for our synagogue and the extremely expensive quote we’ve received for the required renovations to get the place to code. (The restrooms are not ADA compliant, 30 years after the law was passed – heaven knows what else lurks behind the walls!) Our agent is paid by the landlord and has no incentive to assist us (and has given us terrible advice). The new synagogue president and transition committee chair have basically left all this to me to handle since I have so much experience from selling our building. /s/
We leave for vacation for a week and DH and I are bringing computers because we’ll both be on calls about all this the entire time we’re gone. &^%$#!!! Conference calls with a six/seven hour time difference really messes with our plans, as this is precious time with S2 and DIL.
Need to find a Plan B RE agent and potential backup rental possibilities. I do not sleep any more.
Today I worked with digital navigator at library and learned how to write queries and make images on my website printable on one sheet of paper! We were able to do that for 2 flyers. At my next appointment, we will help me make an online survey that participants at our event can complete at the event, so we will have better response rate. I’m very hopeful!
Got up late. I must have been tired to sleep past 9am. I didn’t even hear the kids leave for camp this morning.
Had coffee. Made apple cinnamon strudel muffins for the grand’s breakfast tomorrow. Planned dinner for tonight. (Sliced tomatoes with fresh burrata and pistachio pesto, plus stir fried teriyaki green beans with tofu, and rice for dinner. I’m using up the produce I bought a last week’s farmer’s market because I’ll be hitting the farmer’s market again tomorrow.)
After I have lunch, I’m off to the optician’s to get a pair of glasses adjusted and order new prescription lenses for a pair old sunglasses. (Always have back-up pair of glasses! A lesson I learned long ago. I have a 2 extra everyday glasses, but only 1 pair of sunglasses.)
In between — nothing terribly exciting.
Dentist tomorrow morning. Routine cleaning – I hope.
Picked up a car booster seat that I bought on FB Marketplace. We’ll need it next summer when the grands come to visit.
Got my hair colored.
About to clean up the kitchen and then take a walk while DH is out with the dog.
I’ll be making chicken curry for dinner.
And I plan to watch the only debate the two Democratic candidates for governor in my state (CT) will be holding tonight. Our two-term governor is not favored by many anymore, due to his “moderate” stance on just about everything.
Today’s weather is such a welcome break from recent heat, humidity and wildfire smoke. It’s wonderful to have the windows open! I ran a bunch of errands, worked out, walked, read a bit. I’m going to clean up some of GD’s toys that she has outgrown - I’ll take them to the resale shop tomorrow.
A friend was visiting the last few days so we were busy. Running around doing tourist things and me showing off my neighborhood. She left this morning so I washed all of the bed linens, and did a few more chores. Just got back from my optometrist appointment and found out that I don’t need cataract surgery yet and the new lenses I need are not nearly as expensive as I feared. Win-win.
Same with the cooler weather and throwing the windows open all day!!!
Exercise and pup walk before the work day. For the work day I led 2 outdoor story times for a local nature and education center I participate at and am a board member at - we read 2 books about gardening! So many families and the weather was a !
After work I made myself go out and do some weeding while it wasn’t so hot. I’ve made a lot of progress but have one more big section to go. Making tostadas for dinner and corn on the cob. Sitting by the pool now and having a hard time not going in but thought this could be one day I take off!
Also made an appt next week for another bath design place to do a home visit. No, I haven’t made bathroom decisions yet! I guess I needed a couple months off of not making decisions….
It cooled off here, and humidity way lower about 2:30 this afternoon. I spent the afternoon and early evening at our lake…and it was gorgeous. Oddly, not very many people were there.
But it was nice to just sit at the lake and relax!
Our afternoon mah jongg club now has six new mah jongg players plus us two teachers. We had two tables going today, and it was great. Everyone is very enthusiastic about learning the game! Two new players at my table won a game each…and they were very surprised!
The whole hotel woke up at 5:30 am to a (false) fire alarm. No way I was getting back to sleep, so I showered and went down to breakfast (coffee) and read until DH joined me a couple of hours later. We headed out to Woodstock stopping at Andrew Pearce (master woodturner, Simon’s son) to admire his bowls and other beautiful wood objects and watch some live lathe work.
We spent a few hours wandering in and out of the quaint shops in town and had a delicious lunch at a small cafe, but I was remiss with photos today because shopping. I did manage to snap a couple of scenic pics over a rushing brook (Woodstock is charming), but didn’t capture anything else worth sharing.
We buy 10 games from a guy who has season tickets to the KC Royals. Sometime in March we throw darts at a calendar and choose our games. So today was one of the games, a day game in the middle of the week. Three of the four of us had to take off work to go. But we had gorgeous weather. 80 degrees and low humidity (it was 95+ yesterday.) And we got to see Salvadore Perez tie George Brett’s homerun record at 317. And the Royals won. A good day at the ballpark.
Got my hair cut and colored. More lab tests (routine). Stopped mail for vacation, got bills together so I can set up payment for while we’re gone. Spent most of the afternoon and evening doing synagogue stuff. Our potential new location is blowing up and may not happen. Am trying to get ducks and questions in a row for our attorney, architect and engineer. The real estate agent for this transaction is utterly useless. We had fabulous folks when we were selling who spoiled us for anyone else (unfortunately, they can’t represent us on this one).
H & I had a working dinner date tonight. He is our in-house counsel and treasurer. Has been such a good resource through all of this.
The grandkid story with the mud and gravel made me laugh, sounds like the best kind of chaos! Hope everyone survived the holiday madness and the bat scares
Holy cow, it’s 4:30! I just sat down while my coffee brewed to roll these pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters I’ve been collecting for years before the credit union no longer takes the pennies. That was about 7:45 this morning. I did take some breaks, but not lots. My intent was to get a third of it done but I had some shows playing on the TV and listened as I worked and voila! I am done, and I am rich! $182 into my little local savings acct and more importantly a long standing chore completed!
Yay! The painting crew is here and doing what we had hoped to have done over a decade ago! We are so glad they are doing it as it’s really a huge job and they are ready, willing and able! We are older and not so able–willingness is also iffy. Haha! We have more money than energy at this point, so win/win!
