Today I will make a salad and stuffing while H and D and S smoke the turkey I thawed. It’s a butterball from Costco and was $.50/lb. It’s small because we are a small group.
Booking more cruise excursions, watching the snow, and working. Oh, and we just watched two episodes of “Emily in Paris.” ![]()
Funny you mention that - husband told me to go ahead and book the Barcelona to Venice cruise for 2028! I haven’t even come close to paying for the London, Paris, DDay cruise next year - I think he forgot I don’t work any longer!
I went and played music with a friend, then printed out some lyrics for an upcoming gig. About to babysit two darling grandchildren, both almost 4.
Home from a wonderful “girls day” with my D. Brunch at the Grand Tier Restaurant and a performance of Carmen with an absolutely stellar cast. I am incredibly proud of D and thrilled that she is so happy. Priceless.
I just caught up on this thread by reading around 20 posts. And after seeing so many posts all at once, I’ve come to a conclusion: We are a very, very lucky bunch of people. The activities we list are generally positive things that are completely voluntary. Even if it’s an unpleasant task – like laundry – we get to decide when we’re going to do it. We have lots of freedom.
Sounds like a great vacation! We have no business going on this cruise, ha. But we have too many acquaintances/friends our age who have died or become disabled so we’re going to have fun while we can. ![]()
That is so true! Owning our business means DH and I are very flexible. I did a lot of volunteer work during this past week, but I can make up the time over the weekend. Just yesterday, I told DH, “Wow, isn’t this great? We’re working in our home office, looking out at the snow falling in the woods, listening to classical music, and the dog is lying at my feet! No cubicles!”
Great observation, @VeryHappy. Just the amount of time I spend on CC says I have too much time on my hands. ![]()
We moved our usual Friday make-your-own pizza night to tonight so we could include an additional couple. I’m making sauce and dough today, doing a general house once-over, and baking a new-to-me recipe of sourdough “croissant” bread that has shaved butter laminated into its folds
.
ETA: Here’s the bread:
DH made me cut it while it was still warm which squashed it a bit. Holy Moses is it good!
I’ve made that several times! Key to keep your grated butter very cold once grated - i stick mine in the freezer between folds.
Today I exercised and walked the dog and made breakfast. Which included this new recipe, cinnamon raisin sourdough. Little cinnamon leak there.
Having breakfast now and it’s “the cold before the extreme cold” outside so I just have no incentive to leave the house.
Stay inside and enjoy that bread. I edited my post to include pics of how the croissant loaf turned out. I plan to cut it up into chunks to serve with homemade pesto on my charcuterie board tonight.
That sounds amazing - and it looks wonderful! Yum.
Today, we are having belated holiday lunch feast at Chinese restaurant with friends who always have us over for many celebrations. We wanted to have it when both kids are in town and ordered a lot of our favorite dishes—peking duck, oysters with green onions & ginger and more!
Lunch was fun and relaxing — food was good but not FABULOUS. The oysters sold out on both tables! Lots of leftovers for everyone to take home.
Relaxing at home today after my long slog getting home yesterday. (4 hours of flight delays for a 95 minute flight! )
Cold and rainy here so curling up with a down throw, three warm cats, a mocha, and good book is wonderfully relaxing.
Much snow outside. I was supposed to have a four-hour “retreat” for a group I belong to, but due to the weather it was canceled and we did a 2 1/4-hour Zoom instead. (
) So, I got to do laundry; did not get to the gym, but life goes on. We’ll be plowed out tonight and then life will go on as usual.
Dh made pancakes, then I worked out and watched sports, per usual.
i also started packing up Christmas stuff but with an eye toward an eventual downsize. I listed a whole bunch of stuff on Buy Nothing and will take what doesn’t move to Goodwill. Zillow keeps sending me listings for condos and apartments so that’s got me thinking “Would I pack this and take it across the country?” If the answer is a definite no then i box it up. We aren’t looking to move for a few years, but I figure if I start this now, it’ll make life easier when it’s time.
BTW, to bring another thread into this one, two of the listings are above a Trader Joe’s! Too dangerous!
I shredded 15-year-old tax forms and supporting documentation that had our SSNs on them. Then the shredder jammed and I spent the next 45 minutes with a needle-nosed pliers getting the stuck paper out of the gears. Fun times.
I still have around five years’ worth of taxes to shred.
Went to the Y, weights and stretching only as it was so nice today that I figured I’d take a walk later.
Costco, with everyone else in town. Parents and kids - forgot schools were out for the holiday - mixed with the usual seniors, all blocking aisles and the many extra sample stands. I had to pick up a prescription for H & had to get them to reduce the cost, which they did, or else I wouldn’t have gone near.
A wonderful long walk along the water, and the path above the water, in the next town up. I think everyone who wasn’t at Costco was there, haha.
Just did the Trader Joe’s 12 different chocolates taste test. Of course, D won with 8/12 correct. S had 6/12. I had 3 of 12 and H had 2 of 12 correct. You can tell who the discerning eaters in our family are—definitely not H and not me!
