I’ve repeated this here too many times and apologies to anyone who finds this annoying, but I managed to cobble together a sale, points/Miles and an upgrade to get these seats for taxes only. In other words, the airfare was free. So for the two of us, we flew first class domestic and Delta one suites international and will have the same return returning for essentially nothing except it spending a whole lot of money all year on stuff and putting it on the credit card as well as flying a lot for Miles. But it’s worth it to get these tickets for nothing.
We’re flying premium economy there on a Delta A350 flight, and the same return on a Quantas A380 flight. In both cases, we’ll be in a pair of aisle/window seats so will control the shades. Husband can sleep sitting up and I likely would have trouble even in lie flat, so this is a good affordable middle ground.
Like many, I had a poor nights sleep. Up to walk the dogs, then sorted through more boxes and accumulated another bag for trash pickup. Did some prep for a meeting with my financial planner Thursday, then dropped my car at the dealership for service. Looked at a new vehicle while there, came home and cared for the dogs then out for dinner. Not nearly as exciting as a trip to Australia. We are expecting a massive snow event so I’ll have to get to the store. Blech!
Delta premium select is very comfortable. You’ll get the same white tablecloth and food service as first class and the seats are the old first class seats so they do recline just not all the way down. We flew that when we went to Africa.
Went to the brand new just opened fish market in Sydney. It’s huge and it was jammed. Equally huge with the pieces of sushi that we got but they were fabulous. that last picture of the half eaten sushi used to show the little fish shaped containers of soy sauce
Absolutely! My youngest plays the points game with his credit cards and flying Delta but now that his current job doesn’t have him traveling and Delta’s ratcheting down the benefits not sure how much benefit he’ll get out of it for travel. But, he does like the maneuvering and can get some upgrades, not first class though.
If he made diamond for this year, have him select his choice benefits ASAP before the “new” options go into place. I was able to get mine at the very end of the year and use the upgrades so I did almost the same thing to get first class upgrades (first class domestic and delta one overseas) to Portugal and back this spring. I had to move some miles to my DH’s account to make it all work, and Delta charges to transfer miles so those tix might have cost me $400 total. The tix to/from Auckland/Sydney cost.. for both of us…. $280 total.
We’ve already checked in for our flights tomorrow, so I guess that means we’re leaving.
arrive home late Thursday night after over 24 hours of travel, but the weather in Atlanta is predicted to be horrible over the weekend with ice and snowstorms. So I hope we get home in time to do some food shopping since we’ve been gone for three weeks and I hope somebody leaves food in the store for us to buy ![]()
We walked…and walked and walked and walked but it was totally worth it. Today was all downtown Sydney…Opera House, Botanical Gardens, Art Museum. Yesterday was walking around three beaches…really beautiful.
We are going north of here for 3 days. And an overnight to the Capitol. Australia is a gorgeous place from what we have seen so far.
We don’t miss the very cold weather and snow and short days at home!
Today, H, our visiting kids and I walked to shopping center to dinner at Japanese restaurant and then walked home. It was a very pleasant 1/2 mile each direction. Yes, we are eating out a lot but we love our neighborhood—lots of folks walking their kids and pets.
Why don’t you have food delivered to the house to arrive when you get home?
Walmart will deliver for 9.99 plus a tip. If they have times available to deliver.
I use Walmart pickup all the time. My mom and sibling have a yearly subscription to have delivered to their houses. You can have a one time delivery also
I’m working today. Dh has an overnight business trip so after work, I’m headed to the store to pick up a few “just in case” storm supplies. I normally don’t fall into the hype but at the very least, we will have ice, if not the foot of snow being predicted. We have well water so if we lose power, that means no water. We usually have bottled drinking water but I checked this morning and we only have one gallon. Dh already did a big grocery run this past weekend, but that wasn’t with a storm in mind, so I will prob pick up a few other things we can snack on if stuck at home.
Will make something with shrimp for dinner tonight - dh can’t eat shrimp so I always save that for when he’s not home!
While you are all having exciting days on the other side of the world or just walking around Hawaii, here in paradise it is trash day so that means I’ll be cleaning out as much stuff as I can.
At least it will be 50 degrees so about 60 degrees warmer than Chicago and a lot less snowy/icy than most of the east coast.
It’s 30 degrees here in Chicago today, sun is out and only about an inch of snow on the ground. Beautiful day, headed out to walk.
I may, but if supplies are low b/c of the weather forecast, it won’t matter
After 2 hours, I could finally log into CC
I’m about to chair my first meeting as Board President. Yes, I’m nervous! I’ve sat through these meetings for seven years, but it’s different when I have to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Is the cold weather coming? I was watching the Today Show and Al Roker was showing a map of how cold it was (was going to be?) and it had Chicago below zero. I wasn’t paying attention to when he was forecasting and just assumed it was today.
Sorry.
Pre-op phone call for my surgery next week. Laundry, general house cleaning, and another walk by the water in lieu of the gym.
The weather is supposed to be beautiful for the next week, so I’m looking forward to a few more walks.
Went to Lowe’s and paid for new flooring for our kitchen/sunroom/hallways around those rooms (our 110 y.o. House is weird)
Then off to Walmart to try to find food to last through next week and not starve if we are out of power for multiple days. Milk aisle was empty. Had to buy brown cage free eggs, but I needed those (unlike milk). Most everything else I needed was ok. Lines weren’t long at least.
Our forecast is changing, but varies widely. Depending on the news source it’ll either be 6” of snow with a lot of freezing rain up through 30” of snow with a little freezing rain. We will see.
And my poor co-worker who finally got off snow detail after 20 years did get put back on today. He’s not happy. HR put out the reminder that we do not close. You - if not essential - can be excused, but you must use vacation, leave without pay, or have future leave time deducted. Sick time is not allowed to be used. Work from home is also not allowed
