Husband said, let’s go to lunch at our favorite taco place. As you wish! Then we got mini hot fudge sundaes and took a short stroll on the beach. Then took the long way home via Sunset Cliffs. The drink is called Summer Hummer; it’s a glorified Pina Colada.
Anyway, decided to skip ironing today
.(I did do a tiny bit more laundry after deciding on another long sleeve shirt.) Instead I’m updating my iPhone to the latest IOS so I can get used to the changes before our trip.
@abasket I want a new battery. I like my car.
@BunsenBurner -that’s cool but I would have no clue as to how to use it!
It likely has step by step instructions. We bought one for our little kid… she’s used it a couple of times. Once after leaving the light inside the car on for a month when she was traveling.
You have no idea how mechanically challenged I am…
I went to the gym. Took a shower, but decided not to wash my hair – I’m going to see the grandkids tomorrow so I’ll do it tomorrow AM.
Did a quick load of laundry including the powder room hand towel that DH always seems to get blood on. (He’s on a blood thinner and gets nosebleeds sometimes.) I had pretreated the hand towel with Shout, which is a product I really recommend. So I did a load of whites, that I now have to fold.
Took the dog to the woods for our loooooooong walk up hill and dale. We both enjoyed it, despite the continuing cold. Sat and chatted for a little bit with my friends who go to the woods at the same time. Came home and changed my shoes, then DH and I went to visit a good friend who shattered her arm by slipping on ice and had a total shoulder replacement a week ago. She’s 89 and sharp as a tack, but has realized that maybe doing physical things is now in her past. She’s in a rehab facility until she can use her arm; she’s getting tons of rehab, which is great. We stayed two hours, then ordered Chinese food on the way home. Came home and ate said food.
I kept running through batteries (three in the summer of 2023!). Original battery is #1.
Someone had broken into my car at a park — stole nothing, but jammed the door lock/handle with a screwdriver.
We knew there had been damage to the electrical system — the auto door locking feature. The car battery died overnight at the shop.
I paid to replace the battery. #2.
Within a short period of time, the battery died again — a couple of times! Switched to battery #3 under warranty on #2.
It turns out the door part — originally replaced with battery #1 — was faulty and caused the battery to not hold charges. Once the door part was replaced, the problems ended.
We skipped having the leftover chili for dinner tonight. It was a breezy 80 degrees today so, like @Marilyn, we ditched our original routine to have dinner and fancy beverages with friends at our golf course restaurant enjoying a clear blue sky, birdsong, and a fantastic view of the setting sun coloring the Superstition Mountains purply pink. I didn’t have my phone with me or I’d share a pic. Spontaneous fun on a beautiful evening.
I envy you folks in warm weather. This bone-chilling cold in CT has been going on for eight years now – it seems.
Walking with a friend, binge watching to catch up on the new season of Love Island All Stars UK, and hopefully having my sewer work completed.
Workout done, sitting eating my breakfast at my desk at work. After work, I hope to get the shower curtain bleached and some laundry done.
Our excitement for the day is that there is an apartment complex open house. No, we have zero interest in moving. But, it’s in an iconic gigantic fortress of a building in town that sat in shambles and was an eye sore for a couple of decades. Over the years, several developers tried to get it off the ground, but it always fell through for various reasons. The first phase opened a year or so ago. The second phase a couple of months ago, but this is the first opportunity we’ve had to see the inside. Eventually shops and offices will also occupy the place. And, they are also taking clothing donations. I have a couple of coats I’ve been wanting to get to Goodwill. This will save me the trip.
After that, it’s our usual fast food eat out night. Will it be a Zaxby’s chicken salad? Firehouse Subs? Arbys? We shall see!
Today will consist of working out with my trainer and rescheduling a couple of future sessions.
Plus working on gathering all information received to date for my taxes (first year of filing single since 1983) and for my deceased father’s and his living wife (last year of MFJ).
And I’m giving a lot of thought to my Washington Post subscription. I’ve long wanted to support a local paper (and I have this one for more than 30 years). For years I’ve been annoyed that they charge extra for anything they deem a special issue. They recently announced a new printing plant for efficiencies — but then laid off more than 1/3 of the staff yesterday. If my paper is a mere shadow of what it used to be, I find that I delay trudging down the driveway to get what little news it presents. Honestly, I only make sure I read local news and obits each day. It may be time to part ways. Will I miss having it on my kitchen table?
Tonight I am joining college friends for a talk in DC called “Declaring Independence: Why 1776 Matters.”
You’re getting me excited for our trip! We will be leaving on the cruise in 4 1/2 days. ![]()
Cars up here are filthy due to all the snowstorms. There aren’t enough car washes around. Every one I’ve tried to go to has a line of 15 or more cars, literally. I finally went early yesterday morning and was behind only six cars. I was line for the automatic wash, but there was also a self-service one with people lined up for it! 11 degrees! I can’t imagine washing a car in that temperature, with water spraying everywhere. Even though my car went through the drying cycle, when I got home, the remaining water droplets on the car had frozen.
Packing for the trip today! I get to look for my old, smaller summer clothes, yay.
OMG, after my poor sleep Wednsday night because of dentistry stress, I slept nine hours and 44 mins last night! So, off to a great start.
I have an online workout in about 30 minutes then dh and I are going out for our weekly date. We are considering a new place, but we love our regular haunt so much so we will probably default to that. I’m doing the Jen Hatmaker Zoom at 6 and then watching UT women play in a revenge game against LSU. Listen closely and you might hear me scream at the TV tonight. Oh, and today or tomorrow I need to find a picture frame for a present for a party Saturday, but I’ll talk about that Saturday. I actually have something fun planned!
Today is the day I do annoying but necessary chores.
I canceled the autoship on the special diet for my ailing kitty. I’ve declared him a “hospice patient” because clearly his body is shutting down. He’s lost 5 of his original 15 lbs, sleeps most of the time and refuses to get off the couch where’s he’s got a heating pad to lie on in front of a space heater. I’m feeding him whatever he will eat–and the special diet has never been one he liked.
Because I don’t have a printer, I ran to Staples this morning to print a letter engagement for my new estate attorney who’s updating my will and trust. Came home where I just signed it, scanned it and emailed it back to her office. Now I’m waiting for a secure e-link to pay the deposit for the legal work.
I also downloaded, labeled and secure drop-boxed a bunch of financial documents for my late FIL’s trust to the accountant so they can get started of preparing the trust’s tax return. I won’t have all my tax documents for another month.
I researched several different printers for SIL, who has decided that maybe having a home printer would be convenient. (Yay! I’m so tired of running to Staples every time I need to print out a form to sign.)
I re-subscribed to Peacock [temporarily] so we can watch the Winter Olympics.
This afternoon–making muffins or scones for the grandkids’ breakfast tomorrow. They scarfed down the last 6 muffins from the batch I made Tuesday afternoon for breakfast this morning. Will also take down and fix the mounting of several family photos so I can put them back up, plus I need to hang a picture of me holding my newest granddaughter that was a Christmas gift on wall of family photos.
I’m still adjusting to jet lag time change. And the bitter cold. And snow.
I think that’s way more boring than what @VeryHappy is doing!
Working in the office today. After work H and I are taking a picnic for dinner to a place that is about 1.5 miles from our house to watch the sunset over the ocean.
I’m watching GD today. I had to leave her with H & I’m at urgent care. I was pouring noodles into the colander & poured boiling water on my hand. I ran it under cool water for 20 minutes & it seems okay - but everything online says it should be looked at because scalds on the hand (palm) can get worse over time. So here I am - mask on & no one but me in the waiting room.
Working from home today. Kid ordered some fancy booze for her husband and had it shipped to our house “because it is more secure.” I now have to wait for the UPS… the driver usually just leaves the stuff and signs for it himself, but I’m not chancing it. I asked the kid if I get to taste what’s in the box but alas, that was prohibited! ![]()
Then I will watch some replays and possibly finish Fur Babies, a documentary about two British vets and their pregnant furry patients (and their humans). Very calming pre-bedtime TV! ![]()
Walk with the girls, Sabadog’s foot appears better thankfully. She is old and is dropping her back foot when she walks and scraping her toenail across the sidewalk. I think she really irritated it, hence the blood earlier this week. Went to the gym, as I was stepping off the treadmill I almost fell over the giant gym bag my neighbor had put directly behind the treadmill I was on. I told her that probably wasn’t a great place for it and she said, I kid you not, “how could anyone not see that?” I did see it, but it is still a tripping hazard. As I was leaving I saw my watercolor instructor there and we chatted briefly (which was really nice - she approached me so I must not be terrible). Came home and cleaned up, then went to the “bougie” Walmart and the other grocery. At the other grocery there was a woman dragging her small dog on a leash. The poor thing pooped and she kicked at the pup and walked away from the business. Lovely. I told H I felt terrible for the pup and he said he felt terrible for anyone who had to associate with the woman in any way. I think he’s right about that. Oh, and made an appointment for Sabadog at the specialty vet.
