Yes, 10:30 pm flight from LAX.
Truly so excited for you both. ![]()
The important question: What time are you leaving for the airport?
We shall see. I think 3:30 at the latest.
Forgive my ignorance: Where are you going??
Hanging out at home recovering from some virus. It hit hard Sunday afternoon with fever and chills and body aches and a sore throat.Today is better but still sore joints and foggy brain.
6th time is the charm? After H talked to the FedEx rep yesterday, they said there would be no way it would come today. Do we believe that? The app still said last night that they would deliver it by the end of the next business day. I refreshed the app multiple times this morning. Same message - it would be delivered by the end of the day today, but it didn’t show it out for delivery. It had this same message Sunday when it was on vacation hold and they didn’t try to deliver it that day…
8am H gets a text that the package is “delayed due to operational reasons. Scheduled delivery is (link).” I click the link and it opens the app which has the same generic message it’ll be delivered today, but not out for delivery. Alright it’s not coming.
9:30 H gets another text that it’s out for delivery - but no time window. Say what? I check, and the truck left the station at 9:00 and will be delivered by the end of the day. So, technically it could be at our house by 10am. Is this for real?
I fly home from work while H tried to get someone on the phone. Once I’m home, he managed to get through to a live body who talked to the driver. It’s on the way, and the window is 1-4pm. Of course, the app still says nothing about a delivery window. Just the end of the business day, so I decide to stay home until H gets off of work at 1:30 just to be safe.
By 1:30 it’s not there, but H can stay home now. I go back to work. I’m happy to report that at 2:15 the stupid friggen thing was delivered to our house, and H was there to sign for it. The box was definitely damaged. H said that it looked like someone kicked it 5 times and then stuck a screwdriver in it. However, the seller (H has been in contact with him quite a bit lately - he’s very nice) said that he packed it so well, you could throw it off a building and it would be OK. H opens the package and it satisfied that his item is fine. Thank goodness that mess is done…
Other news - I drove my car (instead of the Subaru) for the first time in 2.5 weeks. The ice is melted enough in the back that I was sure it’d be fine.
New Zealand on a two week Globus tour, then Sydney for four days.
I’d be inclined to tell my husband, no more collectibles that are so pricey that you have to sign for them! ![]()
What an ordeal!
Today was much better than yesterday. Made some business calls this morning, then had my watercolor class which I really enjoy. Tomorrow I start another class, so there will be some overlap. Late today I talked to Sabadog’s vet and miracle of miracles, her liver values are improved! She does have another UTI, but evidently that happens in aging dogs much like it can happen in aging adults. I am so relieved. Of course there were the usual dog walks and the like.
I don’t know if this is an option for you, @ClassicMom98, but whenever I had a shipment I had to sign for I had it shipped to work. It was also delivered much faster as I think FedEx prioritizes business deliveries.
I had a great day. Did all the usual – breakfast, workout, watched Olympics and my soap opera – and then ran to Trader Joe’s to get stuff to ship to the kids for Valentine’s Day and then sent dh to the post office to send the packages on their way. Ds2 called and we had a long convo about all sorts of things, including Jeffrey Epstein. I’m going to post about it on that thread in a bit. Just got off the phone with a bff. Nothing too exciting planned for tonight as I’ve already seen all the Olympic events I wanted to see.
We’ve never worked at a workplace that would allow that. It is a huge no no where I work to have personal things shipped to the office
That is a serious bummer!
The cold I’ve been fending off for several days finally hit me today. If I could have, I would have stayed home but my coworker retired last week and I was promoted to her position. Today we were getting nearly $50K in goods that I needed to take care of so there was no way for me to stay home. Unlike a typical work day, this meant being at a computer all day secluded from my coworkers so I wasn’t spreading germs. I mostly have mild congestion so didn’t feel awful and was so busy I didn’t have time to feel bad.
Unfortunately, tonight was our farewell dinner for the retired coworker, which coincided with our biannual staff dinner at a favorite local restaurant. I opted not to go so as not to spread germs. I stopped on the way home and picked up some Italian wedding soup for dinner (dh was having leftovers, not expecting me home for dinner).
Now watching the Olympics and drinking tea with honey.
Congrats on the promotion—bummer about the cold!
I said yesterday that every day seems to have twists and turns.
As I said upthread, we are attending a wedding this upcoming weekend. We are combining the wedding to visit our children and my mother who live in the direction of the wedding.
Our plans have been to see our son and his family on the way there. He called last night, his wife’s aunt passed away and they need to travel back to her home for the funeral. No problem, we will see them in the way home.
I didn’t want to drive the entire way to our daughter’s in one day so we will stay in a hotel. Have dinner plans at one of our favorite restaurants in the town we used to live in.
My husband who wants to combine all the things, wanted to stop at his mother’s on our way so I can deal with spectrum and her modem that isn’t working. Requires a trip to the spectrum store. That was a no for me, spectrum is a cluster and will take more time and brainpower than I am capable of on this trip.
My husband’s entire contribution is to text his friend whose kids wedding we are attending. Has he done that? No. Does he have any idea what dealing with spectrum is? No. He’s a good person but I am worn out with this ever changing itinerary!
I haven’t packed because today I have a doctor’s appointment this morning and hosting mahjong this afternoon.
Pack tomorrow which now is 5 different places we are stopping and packing for a wedding and night in a hotel where we are taking Amtrak and an uber to. Sigh! It will get done and it’s fine but lots of moving parts that keep changing!
That was a really long post!
Typical Wednesday here. Do the laundry, clean the master bath, spend the rest of the morning enjoying coffee and crocheting with my stitching group, perhaps go out to lunch. Leftovers for dinner.
Have a wonderful trip! Looking forward to hearing about your days while you are gone!
Heat wave here. Temps into the 30’s. I’ll actually go out for a nice walk at some point…and more errands. I have a lot of catching up to do!
I parked in my new parking space at work! For 27 years I didn’t have a designated spot. For most of that time I had to do the 2 hour shuffle every day. But then the police moved out of our building and opened up a TON of spaces. (I think they have 3 vehicles for every person). So then I got my own space, albeit it a little bit of a walk up the hill into the office. But it was still so nice not having to worry about it. I didn’t realize how much mental energy it used each day.
A couple of weeks ago, another small department moved out of our building, and they reassigned spots. I am now directly across the street from my building! No more hill! I’m moving up in the world!
Other than that - same old same old. We had a serious heatwave here yesterday/today. My run was 40* warmer than it was on Monday. Lots of melting, and I can see our parking area behind the house again. Sounds great, except now my sinus headache is back. It was blessedly gone the last 2.5 weeks in the cold… It was nice while it lasted.
H said they got some new equipment at work. I asked if it came FedEx. He said “Probably. It was 6-8 weeks late!” lol. I was so happy to delete the stupid app this morning.
Regular day here except I have lunch plans with a group of women with whom I don’t entirely mesh. They range from fine to great, but the dynamic of the group is a little weird and they are going to a place I don’t love … so I’m canceling and taking myself some place I DO love!
