Did a grocery run this morning. Meeting a friend for lunch shortly. As part of the Steering Cmtee of a group I belong to, I have a Zoom meeting this evening. No exercise scheduled, which makes me unhappy.
Walked with a friend, dentist appointment (bleh) and errands.
Today was a little different. I had to switch Pilates around as I started a new watercolor class today. Yesterday’s class was a bit more project oriented; today I actually started to learn some techniques. Definitely more serious but still very enjoyable. Then I had to run some errands; I was ready to punch several Walmart shoppers as they were all in the 15 items or less self-checkout with full carts and letting their friends (also with full carts) ahead of them in line. H was getting my bail money ready. Then we went to the regular grocery and finally home. After all of that we are having frozen pizza for dinner. I’ve been awake since 3 am and I just don’t have it in me to prepare a meal.
After spending decades doing work that was very defined by rules and laws, I am really enjoying painting. Today we just did freeform shapes and layering with paint; I have finally figured out how to make the walnut painting I am working on in my other class look like an actual walnut. Pretty exciting stuff, I know.
I may have mentioned this before but I started taking a field journaling class last spring - you sign up just one class at a time (one meeting) and I did two. I don’t consider myself creative but found with a patient instructor I didn’t feel judged and I def want to sign up for more.
The comment about the “bail money” at Walmart made me chuckle - thanks I needed that!
Getting ready to head out to LAX; rental car picked up; husband says no point just hanging around if we’re ready to go.![]()

I knew he was going to see the light! ![]()
Have fun, we are all so excited for you!
I’m so glad you’re getting an early start. It’s much more relaxing start of. Holiday to not be worn about getting to the airport on time. When we flew a number of years ago Air New Zealand had the most creative safety videos.
Today I had a lymphatic drainage massage. I had no idea what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised that it was so relaxing.
Afterwards went to pick up a few things at Target and fruit at Costco in anticipation of my granddaughter coming to visit this weekend.
We had a lovely Japanese lunch at a reasonably-priced restaurant we like (hole-in-the wall). Then we ran some errands and came home. Planning on quiet dinner of leftovers. Sent out an agenda, minutes and attachments for tomorrow’s Board meeting that I’m running. Just chillaxing! Also trying to get a roofer to get back to my niece and nephew-in-law about their leaking roof. NONE of the roofers have responded (it was windy and rainy lately and probably some repairs are needed on existing customers).
We’ve been at the airport for about an hour. Everything went way faster than anticipated, which is much preferable to the alternative! We made up a lot of time on the road using the HOV lanes. Car return was fast; a shuttle driver was waiting for any passengers to take off so we got express service to the terminal, priority check was a breeze (over four hours before flight time; I was worried we’d have to wait), and security, although a cluster XXX, was fast. Having a small snack at Starbucks because Delta is going to feed us a lot.
Husband was not annoyed being so early, as much as I could tell.
I must say I am not very impressed with LAX.
Safe travels!! If you are flying Delta One, enjoy the lounge!! Today we looked at senior living options ($$$$$$$$), babysat 2 grandkids (and one is sleeping over) and fretting about the impending blizzard.
Hit up the Y again today. I found out on Tuesday that keeping my heart rate at or below 105 bpm is really hard. Today I kept close watch on it and I was able to go a max of 2.4mph, but not for very long. An hour on the treadmill walking that slow is tough.
Grocery store for essentials. I found a recipe for a tomato and pinto bean soup on the NYT site, so I’m going to make it to have for lunches for the next few days.
Olympics watching later
So exciting! Haha.
Went back to the Tucson Gem and Mineral show to get some Kingman turquoise pieces in advance of DIL’s June BD (she likes turquoise) and found another nice bauble for me. Having dinner at a favorite Greek place on the way home.
Nothing better than a day spent looking at bling if you’re a magpie like me. Definitely got in my 300 steps today.
I went to the periodontist. And I get to go again next week. It’s my least favorite thing to do…but I’m very vigilant about going. I don’t think my dental genes are on my side!
I also made a potato cheese soup which was delicious, and we had sour dough baguette with sweet creamy butter for dinner.
Worked on my tax organizer for the accountant this morning. I’ll look it over one more time but I think it’s finally done. Quick trip to Costco, then took Sabadog to the regular vet for her Librela injection, then to Staples for a USB drive, then D called. Best part of the day.
Went to bank with letter from D to close her account. The teller had to consult with more senior staff multiple times and call D to confirm but eventually got it done and gave me a cashier’s check. Then got a few items from Costco. Went home for breakfast then went downtown to Schwab to deposit check and bought takeout vegetarian lunch & dinner. Went home, ate lunch, spoke to media person/prospective board member, drove H to his hematology APRN. Then went downtown will go home and I will drive myself and another board member to tonight’s board meeting, where we will have a zoom guest speaker.
Today I watched the rosy fingers of dawn rise above the clouds as we sped over the Pacific. Checked into our hotel - it’s raining quite a bit so cancelled our lunch at the Sky Tower. We will walk a bit around Auckland.
We were Premium Economy not Delta One so alas no lounge.
Edit to add the rain stopped and we did walk around the VERY HILLY city then had a delicious lunch. We may get to the harborfront if the swelling in my ankles goes down.
My lunch date canceled with 102 fever so that opened up the day. Worked out and went to a long, late lunch with dh for Valentine’s Day. Had some deep convo, which is my love language. Now we are home watching UT losing to Vandy. But it’s only the half so I’m not giving up yet. I’ll catch up on Olympics later.
Definitely go to the Viaduct area. Tons of great restaurants, and fun to see the gorgeous boats. Take an uber or Lyft.
Spent two hours browsing the interwebs while drinking coffee and eating breakfast. Went to the gym and did Legs. Took the dog to the woods and did our 2.5-mile trek. Took a 25-minute nap. Went to visit my 89-year-old friend who’s in rehab after shattering her shoulder and getting a shoulder replacement. She is seriously considering what to do in future winters. She recognizes that she’s at great risk of falling and breaking things, even though her doctor has told her she’s not osteoporotic but is only osteopenic. She decided she doesn’t care what he and/or her bone density test says; she realizes she’s got to do something serious to avoid breaking more bones. I gave her my wonderful endocrinologist’s info.
She’s 12 years older than I am, and watching her navigate serious old age is very helpful for me.
