“WASHINGTON (AP) — The Transportation Security Administration said Sunday that its PreCheck program would remain operational despite an earlier announcement from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that the airport security service was being suspended during the partial government shutdown.
“ As staffing constraints arise, TSA will evaluate on a case by case basis and adjust operations accordingly,” the agency said.
It was not immediately clear whether Global Entry, another airport service, would be affected. PreCheck and Global Entry are designed to help speed registered travelers through security lines, and suspensions would likely cause headaches and delays.”
If they have X number of TSA agents, I’d think it would make sense to put half in the precheck lines and half in the regular lines just to keep things moving. In Denver, there are often way more people in pre-check as so many people now have it so sometimes it makes sense to just get in the regular line (although you have to take off your shoes and take electronics out of your bag. There is also a separate line for Clear, and I don’t know if that will also be closed as those people pay more for the service.
I think this is to punish people and get them to moan about long lines so that congress will fund Homeland Security.
Kind of a “ meh” day tbh. Watched GS on Friday morning and I seem to have caught his cold so I skipped yoga. The feel like temp outside is minus 6, so no walking. Missing H.
Trying to finish a library book, started a new jigsaw puzzle, will watch a bit of Olympics.
I hope you don’t feel too nasty with the cold and hugs on the missing H part.
D and SIL were here for the weekend and left to go back a couple of hours ago. That means I spent the last couple hours cleaning house and bathrooms and tackling all the floors because their pup who we adore is a massive shedder!
It was a hockey weekend with us all (plus local S and DIL) attending a hockey game Friday night and then watching the Canada-US game this morning. We ate some good Japanese food last night and I made a yummy brunch for the game this morning - pita filled with scrambled eggs and roasted veggies, double chocolate sourdough waffles with fresh strawberries and cream and additional fruit/yogurt for those who wanted it.
We actually got about an inch of snow last night that was sort of unexpected. Most of it has melted now. Walked the dog this morning and going to do an exercise video soon and then have leftovers for dinner. Tonight will be catching up on The Traitors and participating in a Survivor 50 Draft tonight at 7pm via text with family in a few different places.
May our “what are you doing today” soon be filled with some spring!
D’s dog is spending the week with us, so this morning started off with a three dog walk. H has been helping with Sabadog’s walks as she can’t come as far but she was eager to keep up with the other two today. We then watched Olympic hockey, the halfpipe and now the closing ceremonies. Almost time for the dog’s dinner - they are definitely fans of the early bird special. It is rainy and snowy here - I think we are missing the worst of it, thankfully.
I am crying over the Gaudreau children being brought onto the ice, making bread, shoveling snow and talking my mother down from her pain-induced confusion. An all the feels kind of day
Got a notice from our cabin security system that two guys were trudging up the driveway in snow to their knees. Turns out they worked for the company that built our garage and wanted to give us a better estimate for building a side screen porch that we had talked to them about last year but walked away from the off-the-wall number. DH had decided to just build an open-air deck himself instead. I was really bummed about having to pass on the porch, so fingers crossed they come down to something reasonable.
The trail they left in the snow was pretty impressive. They must want the work.
Last night DH announced that our TV was no longer connected to the internet. Silly man, I thought – of course it is, or if not, it’s just an easy fix. Uh, no – we had no internet At.All. So I spent a fun hour on the phone with our internet provider. Always fun, huh?? It diagnosed the problem as our needing a new router. I went to Best Buy when they first opened this morning and got a eera mesh router, so we have the main one and two satellites. And I got them connected, so we were quickly up and running. I’m very proud of myself!!!
Then went to the gym while the snow wasn’t so bad, and now we are tucked in for the duration of what they’re threatening will be awful. Spare ribs in the oven. Yum.
First day skiing at Big Sky. Beautiful bluebird day with nice soft snow. Our good friends rented a ski in/ski out for the season. They were so nice to invite H, D2 and myself to stay. Enjoying an apres drink and snacks now.
I went to Walmart. I rarely do that and I’ve recently moved so this was a ‘new to me’ store. Nightmare. There was a car in an aisle and it just wasn’t moving. No empty spots, one car had people loading into the car, but not close to leaving. Went around and then there were people just standing in the crosswalk to enter the store. No reason, just standing there.
I got offered free tix to Senior Day at the UT women’s basketball game about 45 mins before tipoff, and I made it on time. I have these last-minute ticket giveaways down! Dh works tonight so he didn’t want to risk taking too long and I went by myself. My former therapist once said that my hyper-independence sometimes no longer serves me. Well, in this case, it serves me very well. I don’t blink an eye at doing things by myself. I always have fun. I guess I like my own company!
Then i got an unexpected call from ds1 and his wife. We talked for more than two hours and covered a lot of deep topics. I’m exhausted but in a good way.
Today was a very long drive from Franz Josef. Small periods were quite scenic, but much of the scenery was blocked by trees. NZ has a lot of trees! We saw lots of mountains and some glacial lakes. Currently in Queenstown; the Ramada rooms are like mini studios with a kitchenette and washer/dryer, yay! And we have a view of Bob’s Peak.
Highlight of the day was when our bus was sideswiped by another bus that crossed the line and demolished one side mirror. Driver jerry-rigged a substitute with duct tape. Always carry duct tape! While we were on the short winery tour (unimpressive, three tiny samples poured in the same glass), he got a brand new mirror affixed.
We went to the restaurant on the top of Bob’s Peak when we were in Queenstown in 2013. Very good buffet and I got great golden hour pictures. From there we went to Te Anau and did the Doubtful Sound overnight cruise. Good times!
We’ll stop in Te Anua for 45 minutes on the way to Milford Sound, and the Bob’s Peak buffet Wednesday night. We had a lovely dinner tonight at Bella Capelli.
And I will be picking up and delivering a new walker from the home health store to my mother-in-law because shipping it 3 miles will take 4-5 business days! Not sure why they didn’t ship it right after it was ordered while she was still in rehab. Maybe they wanted their $6 co-pay first rather than invoicing it.
Then on to my weekly food bank volunteer gig.
Tonight, I’ll start season 4 of Astrid (the French version, on PBS), and/or read The Bookbinder’s Secret.
