Went for a short walk with H (he wanted to return home as he was uncomfortable). Went with friend to see community theater preview. At the theater, we met a woman who like my friend had worked for our state department of health. We all went to dinner together following the short performance.
It was nice catching up and sharing info about upcoming interesting community events. We also shared contact info as my old contact info for her was her old workplace (but mine on her phone is still current).
Also signed up for lecture on bone health at our local BCBS tomorrow (just cleared the waiting list). Helped draft an online message to H’s gastroenterologist about his ongoing chronic health struggles. Poor guy—can’t remember the last time everything in his body was behaving—maybe over a year ago?!?!
I have an appointment with the endodontist at 11:00 AM today. Believe it or not, I would welcome a root canal. My jaw has been nothing but nonstop pain, and an area of my mouth and chin is still numb. Clearly something bad with this bridge is going on.
Sorry to be such a downer, but this really sucks right now.
I can guarantee I was only person doing this at 3:30 this morning. I was cleaning my oven - with a smile on my face! Believe it or not, I’ve never used oven cleaner before. A couple of times I’ve run the self cleaning oven feature, but on this one it’s never done much. So I bought some cleaner last night and was curious how easy it would wipe off this morning, so I quickly tried before going to run/to the gym. WOW! Soooo easy. I finished it up afterwards. It’s not perfect, but 95+% of 10 years of grease and grime are gone. In a couple of weeks I’ll do it again along with the bottom oven. We don’t use that one very much, but now that I know how it can look, I’m itching to do it too.
So that plus my long workout checked off. Now I’m at work. At lunch, I have to go to the icky doctor for a follow-up ultrasound. Joy. And then just a regular work day/evening trying to focus on my own little world as much as possible… Somehow it’s not working very well
Dh and I drove down to the beach yesterday to help S23 clean up last week’s storm damage. When we were 30 mins out, we were shocked to see all the trees down - almost looked like a tornado came thru! In our neighborhood, nearly every house has a pile of cut up branches, etc out front. There was a large branch blocking our driveway and a tree in the back that sheared off and is leaning on our neighbor’s shed. While dh and S23 worked on cleaning that up, I did some “springish” cleaning inside as the house has been empty since last fall.
I then Facetimed with D23 in Rome. She has midterms this week then leaves very early Friday for her spring break.
S23’s birthday is tomorrow and he will be alone here (started a new job here today) so last night we took him out for a nice steak dinner to celebrate. I crashed on the couch afterward - so full!
This morning I took a walk then went to the grocery store to load up the fridge for S23. I’m making a big batch of meatballs and sauce today, as well as single servings of meatloaf. All will go in freezer for him.
Heading out to the outlets shortly to return/exchange a few things to J.Crew.
We will have dinner here tonight with S23 then make the two hour drive home tonight. Back to work tomorrow!
I’m back at work today after our 10 day vacation. We had a fun time skiing in Big Sky and loved staying at the ski in/ski out our friends had rented for the season. The only down side of our trip happened last Tuesday. H, D2 and I were heading to a lift when D2 went over a bump near the bottom and her ski came off. The ski ended up hitting her just above her ski boot on the front left leg. The ski cut through her ski pants, long underwear and sock! Long story short she ended up getting a ride in a toboggan from ski patrol right to the urgent care clinic at the base of the resort. She had to get 15 stitches! We took her skis to be checked since it seemed odd that the ski came off so easily when she had not really done anything crazy. Found out her ski bindings were not properly set (this is her 4th season on this pair of skis). The ski techs set the bindings correctly so hopefully this won’t happen again. D2 had to come in the snow coach with us last Thursday to visit Yellowstone instead of a snowmobile because of her injury.
I saw the endodontist this morning. They did a big, expensive scan, and then she also played fun games in my mouth as we tried to figure out exactly which tooth is giving me trouble. She said the antibiotics should make me feel better very soon, and she also prescribed a steroid to reduce inflamation so that whatever is pressing on the nerve that’s making part of my face numb will stop doing so. I’m to check in with her tomorrow AM and also PM. I’ll probably see her again in a week, and then we’ll determine a game plan.
I have the price of a Lamborghini in my mouth at this point.
I’ll take the dog to the woods later and make pork chops and roast veggies for dinner. That’s all I’m good for today.
I must say, regarding all the dental crap I’m going through, that dentists are way easier to get a hold of than doctors. After my endodontist appointment today, my regular dentist texted me to find out how it went. After I picked up the steroids from the pharmacy, I had a question about how to take them. (It was 4:30 and I was to take two doses a day. Should I take two today, or just start with one?) I texted the endo and she called me back. Wow. I wish doctors were as responsive, but I know they all work for large corporations now and have productivity requirements. Dentists, for the most part, still work for themselves.
I’ve been afraid to run the self-clean function on my double over (after the warranty period) because I’ve heard the high heat fries something else (a circuit board) in the oven system!
Update to say today, e.g. March 2, has been a very long day! Began in Sydney yesterday morning than reran after we started our flight. And it’s not over yet!
I must say, it was quite easy to reenter the United States! We disembarked (slowly, since one of the special jetways for the A 380 broke down), walked half a mile, got in the US citizen line, stared at a camera, got our checked luggage, found the “Nothing to Declare” exit, and just walked out of the terminal without any other encounters. I guess it’s the honor system? Last time I came back to the US was after a cruise to Mexico and we had to fill out declaration cards.
Trying to get reimbursement for my son’s Rx yesterday, since he hasn’t received his Medicare Part D prescription card yet.
Trying to get reimbursement for my husband’s $512 vaccine, since the doctor’s office said they don’t have a contract with the insurance company so I have to submit a form. Which means messaging the doctor’s office for all the information the insurance company needs.
Talking to a Medicare consultant about my son and husband, trying to figure out if their expensive blood clotting med (needed only with surgery or severe injury) is covered.
Taking our neighbors to the bus station.
Picking my son up and bringing him back to the house, where he will stay until we go to support group tomorrow night.
Trying not to be pissed off at our middle son. LET IT GO!
We had planned to drive home from the beach last night after dinner. Unbelievably got more snow back home, not enough to stick to roads, but we got warnings of slippery road surfaces due to falling temps. I walked outside and the deck was covered ice pellets. We decided to just get up early this morning to drive back so we are on the road now. Thankfully we decided that as I got an alert that the westbound span of the Bay Bridge was shut down due to an accident.
Bonus, I got to wish S23 a Happy Birthday in person this morning before we left.
it has been raining the entire drive - yuck!
Will get home with just enough time to unload the car, put on some makeup and do my hair, then head to work.
oh, almost forgot! Yesterday we found evidence of mice in two closets and the kitchen. Grr! We had an infestation last year when the house was empty all winter that was disgusting to clean up and had to get an exterminator. Apparently they are back but think we caught in time. Dh set some traps last night and already found one this morning. At least S23 is living there now and can watch the traps. Dh is going back this weekend to continue storm cleanup.
