What are you doing today?

Today I took my 90 year old mil and added her to my cell phone plan.

It had to deal with Verizon’s customer service twice! In one day!

I used to have my children on my phone plan, now I have my mom and my mil. Kicked the kids off (actually I got tired of Verizon, switched to T-Mobile, they wanted to stay with Verizon), now I have the mothers!

I need a drink! Or a chocolate chip cookie!

When I did mine in Nov, I had an appt and they asked me to fill out all kinds of info I thought I’d already filled out. Then I had to wait. As I was waiting other people came in and were told it could be up to an hour even though they had appts because they were ‘short staffed’ that day. I think the people working were doing their best to hurry up, but I guess things happen. I was told several times (when I made the appt, when I checked i, when the tech did the mammo and bone density) that they’d get my records, but they never did. I was also unhappy that six weeks later they invited me to join yet another medical records online app so I can review the records when I want. Well, they sent them to my PC and my oncologist, who also have apps I have to be on (plus apps for my old PC, my dentist, a medical records group - oh I’m sick of joining apps to get info).

I’ll continue to get them but maybe not at this place.

Towards the end of my long ride today. I basically had the bike path to myself.

Going out to my dad’s (160 mile RT) to celebrate his 90th BD. My brother is flying in. I’m bringing a cake. We’re having dinner at a semi-fancy restaurant not far from their house. His 90-year-old wife is frail but still manages. They moved themselves out of assisted living and back into the house Thanksgiving week because “we don’t plan to die in that place.”

Neither my brother nor I are looking forward to this, and DH is just tolerating it for my sake. Time to put on my happy face and go through the motions.

Making dough for Grandma pizza for dinner tonight, going to the grocery store (went yesterday but didn’t buy milk–a rookie mistake I shouldn’t have made with 3 little kids in the house). Then to the vet to pick up a prescription for my sweet boy tabby who has kidney failure-related anemia. When I get back, I’ll walk the dog (not my usual chore but d1 is sleeping on day 2 of 5 days of overnight shifts, SIL went into the office today and the dog walker is on vacation) and make some muffins for tomorrow’s breakfast. I’ll also make rainbow platter of fruits and veggies for the grands who will be home by 4. Then I’ll make dinner. I’ll probably do a load or two laundry sometime during the day also.

Next week, I’m flying out to Michigan to visit my brother and his wife. My SIL is in very poor health and has been hospitalized 3 times between Thanksgiving and New Years for heart failure related symptoms. I feel like if I don’t see her soon, my next visit will be for her funeral.

Doing the thing I hate most in the world … going to the dentist to fix a crown.

I hope your appointment was not too horrible.

Had a crown (temp) put in yesterday. I dread it, was glad to fill a “next day” cancelled appt and avoid weeks of worry. It is my third since January 2025. The first two were proactive, planned along wtih for 2025 dental plus coverage (vs self-coverage in early years of retirement). This one was due to a molar corner chipping off - phew, I had opted to do another year of dental plus. There is still sticker shock, so I’m glad to have HSA funds.

I would place that second to having a root canal - after which one stills needs a crown. I’m very glad that (1) I am repairing rather than losing teeth; three second molars are long gone and (2) our dentist does in house crowns so no messing with temp crowns and return visits.

I’m going to Physical Therapy and having a filling repaired. It’s a composite on molar and chipped over 8 years. We may go out for early meal after that.

Taking down Christmas decorations. Meh!

Had a two hour coffee with a friend. Such a needed respite from dealing with mom’s issues.

I hate that so much too!!!

I hope by now it is all over and you are on the other side!

It must be dentist day on CC. I went this morning for my 6 month check up. I have terrible teeth. I’ve had at least a dozen crowns and several root canals. Dentist looked at the new x rays and suggested I replace 3 fillings because they’re discolored (not sure I can tell). Since 2 of the teeth are in the front, he suggested I could get all 6 front teeth crowned so they’d look really nice. Then he told me a molar (that had a root canal) will probably need to come out in the next year and replaced with either a bridge or implant. Estimates for the 6 crowns and the implant are around $8k. No way. I was so discouraged I didn’t even make an appointment for the (cheaper) new fillings. Came home and took a nap.

I just got home and deposited the $8500 (!!!) check from the jeweler who bought my bits and bobs of gold and watches I don’t want, plus a bunch of silver coins. I told him I thought it would be about $4000; he said a year ago it would have been. It’s all going by weight; the pieces have no intrinsic value by themselves.

Thanks, all. I should have added a comma in my initial post. The thing I hate most of all is going to the dentist, in this case for a crown repair.

BUT, it went great. I took dh with me, because we picked this guy because dh taught his two kids. I figured that he could chat him up and that I might get better treatment. I loved the office staff and the music playlist, there was no pain and he doesn’t come across as an up-seller. I confessed that I hadn’t been to the dentist since before Covid. I think they were expecting a hella mess in my mouth, but I actually practice really good oral hygiene precisely because I want to avoid the dentist. They thought I’d need a deep cleaning, but the hygienist said nope. See??? I brush and floss and take the meds I need for the autoimmune disease I have that can promote dental caries.

PHEW! Two more appointments to take care of this crown and a cleaning and I’ll be done for six months!

I, too, visited the dentist this morning. After the surprise crown replacement this fall, I was hoping that all would be ok on this trip. A nice cleaning by the hygienist, then the dentist says I need a small filling so I don’t ruin the tooth. Woo hoo!

I stopped at the really fancy-schmancy mall on my way home and looked at all the things I wouldn’t be buying as a result of said filling expense.

Christmas takedown tonight and tomorrow.

Bummer. I’m still ignoring my Christmas stuff and lighting all the candles at night.

Went to visit my stepmom today, about 2 hours away. My dad died just after Christmas in 2024 so she’s just past the 1 year mark. I wanted to help her move anything important from his laptop to hers, she’s not tech savvy at all. It was a nice visit and all went well. I’m glad I’m able to visit a few times a year.
