On Mondays I do a quick check of work email in the morning since I haven’t worked since Thursday and I set myself up for the next 3 days of work. Just like 1 - 1.5 hours and then I’m done for Monday.
Picked up grandpup to spend the day here. A bunch of yard work before the wind picked up. It’s a wonderful 70 degree day. We had some electricians out to fix a lightswitch fiasco H could not solve yesterday. Was also going to have them change out a defunct motion light on the garage but apparently the one we bought to replace it is not the right one. Sigh. Can’t check that job off the list yet, back to a store we will have to go.
I also made a breakfast type casserole this morning (Italian sausage, cheese, veggies, eggs, challah) that we will actually have for dinner tonight. Trying to make some space in the refrig for Easter supplies so trying to use some things up! Made an extra casserole to give to S and DIL when I return grandpup at 5!
I’ll do a little more work outside while it’s nice - suppose to be lots of rain this week so will enjoy it while I can! I wish I felt comfortable enough to get some of the pool patio furniture out but while this week looks good, there has been random years with early April snow!
I vividly recall helping D & her friend blow out eggs for an Easter project when they were in kindergarten. It was early April & the kids had a snow day. Midwestern weather is unpredictable!
Just saw lung doc in person and he has ok’d H to fly to SF and Scandinavia.
He ordered an arterial blood gas test — H had to get poked 2x but we got it done today.
We also drove to his former oncologist and got records transferred from him to new oncology NP, who is in same health system as H’s other doctors. Ate lunch, returned library books, now finishing packing and next going to pharmacy to pick up epi-pens (mine expired and better to fly with ones that are unexpired).
I did some kitchen Passover cleaning after breakfast. Then we went out for lunch because husband had a birthday discount at a local Mexican place. It was quite nice and our server/bartender/day manager was friendly and fun. Now I’m relaxing and it’s husband’s turn in the kitchen. Not much more for me today; next two days will be busier.
Woke up and worked out a bit then had lunch with dh. We picked up a sweet to take to my 90yo “uncle.” I can’t believe he’s in such great shape living alone. We had such a nice visit. Then dh and I went to the Elite Eight game, and we won handily. Kind of amazing, really. I thought Michigan would give us more of a fight. And then we drove the three hours home and got here after midnight. I’m writing this up because I’m a little wired and can’t sleep.
Today I will go to my follow-up endodontic appointment, then do grocery shopping, which I haven’t been able to do in way too long. Then later I’ll go to the gym. Boring and quiet – my kind of day.
Just got to work. Had a great workout. Yesterday too. I found that the stairmonster/bike do not hurt my foot at all. Which is definitely improved a lot. Almost better I would say, but since these don’t affect it at all, I’m perfectly content to stick with those this week. Lifting went well too.
Have got a consultant interview this afternoon, which messes with my nap. Not pleased… But it’s pay day, so that helps.
Older S asked us to find pics for the memory table. MIL and then his great-grandparents. Oh, I had fun sorting through our old pictures. Got them printed and then we picked out frames last night. I say we, but that part is really H. He’s got the artistic eye. Me, not so much. I can scan and send pictures to CVS online…
Today started early, 0245 alarm to get DD2 and DGS3 to the airport for their return to Okinawa. I had the best 2 weeks as his nanny while DD2 worked. We spent the middle weekend introducing young sir to extended family.
In addition to laundry and reassembling the guest room, I’ll be happy to get back to my exercise routine. I had visions of bringing him to my classes parked in a stroller, but his schedule was off kilter from jet lag.
Oh, and there will be a post office drop off of the things that didn’t make it into the luggage
After breakfast I’ll clean some more in the kitchen then make chicken soup. While it’s cooking, I’ll hard boil some eggs then roast one for the seder plate. And make charoseth. Then stand back while husband switches out regular for Passover food in some cupboards.
We took a field trip over the mountain today. We’d barely gotten on the interstate when a truck began tailgating us pretty aggressively. H was happy to let him pass, then moved back into the fast lane keeping with the flow of traffic. Truck had barreled ahead. A short while down the road, truck is back in the right lane, then literally jerks into our lane, cutting us off. He speeds up once again. We came to where he was exiting, and he deliberately swerved at us. It was unnerving to say the very least. The truck was a flatbed with a huge piece of construction equipment loaded on the back. H is a good driver, we had no interactions with this guy, just glad he left the interstate. We were on the way to the cancer center no less! We drove through a neighborhood we’re both interested in. Went to the appointment, bookstore and Whole Foods. Guy in front of us had his EBT card declined- he thought today was the 1st. It was a good day to pay it forward so I did and bought his juice. On the way home we stopped at Target so H could look for more collectible Ferraris. None to be found. We drove over the other mountain home.
I’m not sure which emojis to use! Angry face to the truck driver. 81 can be a nightmare re: trucks! But heart emoji for paying for a juice. You’re a good person
I hit the Y this morning after coffee and puzzles. Three miles in under 50 minutes, which is something I haven’t seen in ages. Weights and stretching. Time to make an appointment with one of the trainers to make sure I’m doing weights properly. My back is kind of hurting and I can’t use the hot tub for another couple of weeks.
We hit up Costco and more than a few things we want/need are going on sale at the weekend and H forgot the rewards certificate, so we’ll have to go back.
I fixed a Brooklyn cocktail, H put some pork chops in the sous vide, and now the hockey game. Stir fry for me for dinner between periods.
I worked from home and during breaks, I updated the operating system of our 6 year old laptop we use only once a year. You guessed it - to do taxes. It was running some god forsaken version of windows 10. So after a dozen of restarts, it is now up to date with the latest version of Windows 11! Now off to download TT and maybe make a tax return file. Oh joy to the world!
This morning I’m hanging around the house waiting for a FedEx delivery that requires a signature – my serum tears, made from the 14 vials of blood they collected last week. So I’m doing laundry, cleaning up the kitchen, and I might even iron if FedEx doesn’t come early in my delivery window (8:30 to 1:30).
First night of Passover so day revolves around that to a large extent, even though it’s only the two of us.
We always go out for breakfast then a new tradition is to dip ourselves in salt water (wade into ocean or bay; it’s a play on our name). Then home to make matzah ball batter. Husband will finish switching regular/Passover food, including moving refrigerated items to our little outside fridge. It makes him happy.
Later I’ll clean the dining room and set up the table for the Seder. Then about 5:00, start prepping the chicken. Then on to the seder itself and enjoying son via FaceTime participation.
