Woke up to unexpected desert rain. What a treat; there is nothing like that smell. All windows and doors open. Meeting up with my Wednesday stitching group later this morning for fancy coffee and small talk while we work on our projects. DH is already up there having coffee with his group of guys.
I need to locate and print some 1099s for a tax appt I have tomorrow. At 2 pm my time I’ll start watching the Artemis stuff on TV. I don’t know why I’m so excited about it but I am. Then off to Seder.
Got awakened early by news that ds2 and his gf had gotten a dog, complete with pics. They called a few minutes later, and it was an April Fools joke! Boooooo!
Today is my late mom’s bday so there’s that. And just now, the planned online workout got canceled.
Day is not starting out great.
Haha - I thought from your other post that they might have told you they’re expecting a baby!
I got an aura frame last week. Texted the kids so they could add to it.
My daughter texted me 87 pictures of the dog. One of her and one of the turtle. One picture had her husband in it, with the dog.
D texted her dad asking what we did all weekend. H said that we were busy watching pictures of the dog on a continuous loop.
It was warm on Monday, rained on Tuesday. Today it’s cold and windy again.
Walked the neighborhood. Went out for Mexican. H tried to clean up the yard. Not much going on.
Oh, my kids know not to kid about that! Or marriage.
Ds2 said that she wanted to do some things that he thought crossed a line and he vetoed them. I’m a little concerned about some of the other ideas she had for her parents, but that’s their problem! lol And they are used to it. As long as ds can moderate this dark streak when dealing with our family I’m fine. They actually filmed her pranking her parents and to see her so tickled by the joke was delightful. I need to get on the prank thread with more details.
We have to do that too…not looking forward to it at.all.
I absolutely adore my digital picture frame. I had an old one from 2012 that needed a flash drive - which was fine and easy to use, but the frame didn’t support the heic file type. Anyway, I can stare at it for hours. And about half of them are our pets too!
Somewhat normal day. Workout and then work. I am on a consultant interview team for a big work project. I find these so interesting. So many things that one should not say or do in an interview…
Finally got logged in to the (out of town) ED/Cardiologist place. I was hoping to find my heart monitor results. I didn’t find them, but saw where they tried to call me the other day. I guess that was the “probably spam” call. Ugh. I didn’t see it when it was ringing anyway. Hopefully, they’ll call back. I guess if it was important they would have tried harder. I did see the results of my blood test, which they had told me was fine. Two blood clotting numbers were listed as high… Dr google shows they are just outside the normal range and nothing to really worry about. I sort wish I didn’t have these numbers, because they freak me out. But I know my H - who now has blood drawn ALL the freaking time for a million different tests - to know that one month 3-5 values are just slightly above/below normal. The very next month with no lifestyle changes, they’re fine and some other numbers are a bit outside normal. It’s when you have a WBC count of 16,000+ that rises significantly every single year when you just might have a problem… (and of course then our lovely local PCP said nothing for 4 years…) Anyhow, this stuff just gets my anxiety going… Hopefully they’ll call back with the heart stuff…
And it’s Walmart Wednesday. I need eye shadow. Mine broke yesterday…
I did my taxes in February. Got a huge for us (and expected) refund from the feds, and got an unexpected very high for us bill from the state. High enough for a penalty - fortunately only $7. We still came out ahead, but I was hoping to use it all for part of the rehearsal dinner…
Too many numbers in the health care setting can indeed be overwhelming.
Our accountant filed our taxes Friday and we received our federal refund yesterday which is great because we also owe the state. I’d rather not be getting a refund or making a payment, so it would be nice if the financial people could figure it out!
Watched the Springsteen tour kickoff last night and can’t wait for the DC show. Today was Pilates, chatted with a neighbor and his dog who have been away, ran some errands and did some reading. Had to turn on our ac as it is very warm here. I blame it on Sabadog who isn’t enjoying the heat at all. (I had to edit as I was chatting with my neighbor, not the neighborhood!)
Took the unused 2 long pieces of molding and 1 box of lvp back to Home Depot after our kitchen floor install last week. The return amount was a good bit less than the cost of the items. The return person tried for a while to figure out why but couldn’t. She called someone else and then said it was a restocking fee. I pointed out that Home Depot itself had measured and determined how much was needed and I wasn’t paying a restocking fee. Then she re-consulted and said no, it was additional items that were added to the delivery and not paid with the initial order. I showed the receipt that the additional order was the same number of items listed before the return. She tried to find where it said about the added items on the list of notes on my account but couldn’t find it. But she was sure that was it. I questioned why products would be added to my purchase and would be delivered without me paying for them first. She said “They do that sometimes.” I asked to talk to the mysterious person she was talking to. That person eventually came to the counter and looked up my account. She found a $100 unpaid fee on our account from when the installer came to our house but then said our floor was damaged (some water damage and the top layer had been removed from our asbestos removal) and he couldn’t install over it. I had mistakenly thought the installer would fix the floor problems. I don’t remember being told there was a $100 “failed visit” fee, which was dated as being added after his successful visit last week. But at last this did make the math make sense. Of course both people I need to talk to to hash out whether this is justified are not available today. Thankfully I’d had a nice lunch with friends before I went to Home Depot. But not too happy with their “let’s throw out a reason and see if it sticks” approach.
Follow-up to my earlier. I missed yet ANOTHER call from the cardiologist. I answered, but pressed the wrong button - I was in my car driving. Crap. But I went online again and found where I can see the results. The notes scared me, but chatGPT calmed me down, lol. It does seem I had extra beats here and there - but not often enough to be concerning (according to chatGPT. And I had several/a few? instances where the upper chambers beat fast than normal, but apparently they weren’t long enough or fast enough to be too terrible. So, chatGPT says it’s relatively normal…
But my lowest RHR was 41. I’ve clocked it awake between 45-50, but not 41… I supposed i was asleep. Highest was 167 during my workouts, none of which were hard. Moderate, maybe even moderately hard, but not a hard workout.
I suppose I can breathe now? Put that on my list of “things to do today”
I had a very physical day.
Got my Fed Ex delivery at a very reasonable 10:55 AM. Worked more on the planters on my deck. Each planter is about 35 pounds, in its own pot, and I have to lift them out of the built-in planters on my deck so I can clean all the leaves and crap that’s in the built-in planters. I did about 15 of those this morning, in between three loads of laundry. Then later I used my new power scrubber to get rid of mold and moss and other yuckies on my front stoop. THEN, DH and I assembled one – yes, one – chair from our new deck furniture. It took us about an hour to figure that out! Took the dog on a long walk. Made chicken curry; it’s in the oven now. DH and I started to assemble another chair but it started raining and we were pooped.
I expect tomorrow to be a lot like today.
Beautiful morning here so I got up early and took my dog for a long walk before work.
Work was…work.
S25 and his GF are here tonight b/c they are leaving for Italy tomorrow and I’m taking them to the airport in the morning. He requested shepherd’s pie for dinner since he wasn’t here when we had it for St Paddy’s Day. Easy to make but time consuming. Listened to my audiobook while cooking. GF got here super late as she had a lot to do at work before leaving for their trip so I ended up eating before them.
Talked to S23 to confirm weekend/Easter plans. Just the two of us will be here since Dh is dogsitting across the country for two weeks.
Took a shower tonight since I have to get up early to drive S25 and GF to DCA before I go to work. I haven’t been to that airport in 6-7 years. I’m hoping since it’s spring break rush hour traffic won’t be awful since I’ll be hitting it both ways. It’s an hour each way w/o traffic, then straight to work afterward. Thankfully I have a good audiobook.
Admittedly envous thinking four of the six of us are in fun places for Easter and I’m not one of them! Dh is in San Diego, D27 is in Kauai, S25 in Italy, and D21 is going to Tunisia! And here I am in MD ![]()
I called the fired hematologist/oncologist’s office today to confirm that they sent the records to new NP hematologist/oncologist (that is in same med system as most of the other providers) and canceled the 4/6 appt with former ND.
Then I spoke with CVS Caremark and they FINALLY told me that insurer never paid the medical center for H’s medication while he was “under observation,” after nearly a year of confusion and way too much time. Insurer sent us a tiny check and I paid the outstanding balance. Phew! Glad to be done with that mess.
Called HI pharmacy to see if they still had remaining refills for H’s RX that he forgot to bring with us to CA and got them to transfer the Rx to nearby CA pharmacy.
Went to my CA pulmonary appointment and talked to her about H and his symptoms and then me and mine. She is very pleased with my HI lung doc and that he’s done a good job of reviewing H’s medical records and the tests he’s ordered and sees no red flags and approved H for this and future trip. She’s also pleased that with the biologics I seem to be IMPROVING! We will do a telehealth this Oct/Nov and then another in person next May.
We picked up D at airport —she’s spending a week with us in CA with BIL.
We took niece, nephew-in-law and grandniece to dinner at Benihana to celebrate that they’re having new baby girl and everyone had a nice time.
On the way home, we picked up H’s prescription and then H, BIL and I got polio vaccines (because H and I are going to Scandinavia and there are cases of polio there. Adults are advised to have ONE booster—there was no copay. Before leaving, we got pharmacy to transfer prescription back to the HI pharmacy it came from.
It was a very productive day, all in all.
Yes, I do that too and always get, at minimum, credit card fees discounted, but usually a lot more. Several hundred dollars is worth a couple of trips to the ATM. (We don’t have a brick & mortar bank.)
Generally at a minimum, our local service folks will offer to waive taxes (nearly 5%) if cash is used instead of CC. That’s about it. Sometimes they will round it off to a slightly lower quote, but usually just say no tax if cash. 5% can add up to a tidy sum.
Taking it easy now that Passover’s begun and no more cleaning and not much cooking needed. I am making Passover Puffs aka matzah meal rolls. Then tonight is the synagogue community seder. I am currently debating whether or not to bother washing my hair or just the bangs.
I have another watercolor class tonight. While I was at the desk at the artisans guild today, I painted this one without any help from anyone. It’s not perfect, but it’s all mine.
Another very physical day. This morning I went to the gym and lifted heavy things over my head, then did my two miles on the treadmill. Came home and finished cleaning out my planters on the deck. It was too cold for DH and I to continue putting together our deck furniture but I was able to break down a humongous cardboard box and get it into the recyling bin. (The real advantage when you pay them to assemble everything for you is that they take away all the cardboard and other packing materials!) Then I washed half of the flagstone path in the front of the house with my fancy power scrubber. I’ll do the rest tomorrow.
I’ve got a corned beef cooking away and we’ll have that with some baked potatoes and asparagus.
Ds2 called early today to ask a question about mailing a package. Why did he think this was difficult? lol Kids!
Then he called back a few minutes later to report on how easy it was! He’s also was trying to find a date for a special concert tonight that’s a hot ticket. His gf is leaving town today so he wants to get just the right person who will appreciate the show to attend.
I worked out and then met a friend for lunch. Did some shopping, ran by the bank and then listened to an interview on the radio while sitting in the driveway. Tonight, watching baseball and softball!
