What are you doing today?

Today I get to call the moving company which moved my Dad from independent living to assisted living in December 2024. Now I need to arrange the clean out of his assisted living space after he moves up to memory care.

Then Pilates, followed by Pickleball.

This evening I’ll put the the last of the Christmas stuff away.

Today, I went to the gym. I’ll go to the supermarket shortly. It’s a very full life.

H, D2 and I are heading over to D1 and SIL’s shortly to finish packing up their house and begin packing the moving pod. H will be the one to tell us all what to put in the pod when so that we can get everything in.

How are you feeling about the move?

Another morning/early afternoon going through stuff. Mom had a lot of china and pottery. Today I cleaned out a huge china cabinet and was amazed to discover multiple pieces of Roseville pottery. I never knew she had it so that was a nice surprise. I plan to use it! H took several boxes to our preferred donation shop - proceeds go to help folks in our community find housing. It’s easier to deal with stuff now that time has passed. Almost time to walk the dogs for the second time.

It is definitely not easy for me, but this is the right move for their family. They gave it a lot of thought and even considered continuing to be renters here in SoCal. I am very happy that SIL’s parents are 30 minutes away to be able to help. H and I plan to be very involved grandparents even living far.

We already have 4 trips planned to see them and they will come here for Thanksgiving. I think there will be at least one additional trip to see them this year. So we will see our GD about every couple of months. People have asked if we would move to CT, but at this point in our lives it isn’t what we want. We are a very close family so we will make this work.

If you’re retired, one more activity and it’s getting to be too much for one day

Well, we went to pay for a new lawnmower that H wants because he’s unhappy with the current one that he bought and has used for 3 years. He plans to offer it to nephew-in-law. It still works but isn’t PERFECT. As long as he wants it, I’m fine.

En route to the store, we found out our next door neighbors are moving to NYC because their D, SIL & GS live there. We are sad but hopeful that whomever they sell to will also be nice people. We told renting neighbors on the other side of our house about impending sale and they’re pretty interested.

After that, we bought some breakfast/brunch at a Chinese restaurant.

My usual trip to the Y this morning. I did 5K on the treadmill in under 50 minutes, which is something I haven’t been able to do in years. A few snarls at people hogging the machines or not wiping them down, but I left with a smile.

H is installing the new dishwasher. So far, so good, he’s only had to hit up the plumbing supply once.

We’ll get all of the Christmas stuff up over the garage, the tree into our storage room, and the living room back to normal tonight. I think that calls for a special cocktail to celebrate.

Had my routine labs then took myself out to breakfast at a new place (for me) that specializes in waffles, particularly churro waffles. Then on to Nordstrom Rack and Bloomies Outlet, after which I’ve determined the kind of lightweight long sleeved casual dressy shirt in a style and color I like - doesn’t exist. (I’ve also been to TJ Maxx and Marshall’s and shopped extensively online.)

Now I’m just waiting for my A1c test result and glad I have a lot leftover from breakfast.

A “walkabout”

Today I will walk the dog in the woods in the morning, since it’s supposed to rain in the afternoon; go to the library to pick up the books they have on hold for me; and go to Costco to get rice and croissants. The croissants are for lunch tomorrow; we’re hosting a good, long-term friend and her partner.

Again, exciting!!

Oh, and I’ll do laundry. I always do laundry.

I love everyday routines. I always say that I don’t need the holidays cause I just like regular everyday life!

It is very rainy here today - had an abbreviated morning walk with the pups. I am on a roll with clearing things out so will spend some time in the basement (again!). I also need to organize all the papers on my desk. I should go to the gym and the grocery but I am just not feeling it today. Tomorrow will be football, H only has interest in the Bills, so I’m off the hook for today.

DH and I have been looking at excursion possibilities on our upcoming cruise to the Caribbean and selected the ones we want to do. They always book up quickly, so we get reservations as soon as we can. We really need this trip and I can’t wait!

I’m going to Hawaii Bogleheads meeting at coffee shop, picking up cream puffs & coco puffs for baby shower and going to baby shower with gifts & favors and dessert. If I remember, will swing by restaurant and the photos of their banquet menus and January specials did lunch we host next Sunday.

If I have energy later, will go to Costco sometime this weekend to pickup glasses & buy some stuff.

I started cleaning out the refrigerator and reorganizing my pantry and stopped in the middle to reactivate my HomeChef meal delivery that I did 3 years ago - I loved it but wanted to do more strict Keto/Low Carb and even though their low carb is good, I didn’t want to pay for it. However, I miss not having to plan anything because husband does not help, at all! And I miss a clean refrigerator because you don’t have lots of food lying around you didn’t use you need to throw away. I already have my salmon delivered monthly and will continue to get some produce from grocery store but the meal delivery stuff really did work for me (2 meals for 3 days) when I was working and why not make it easy on myself now that I’m retired! I also saved money on my grocery bill.
