My niece is among those New Jersey girls who graduated this weekend! SIL posted many pics of various relatives, some of whom I’ve never seen. Noone from this side of the family, though.
H is on his way to Paris for work, giving me 72 hours to deal with plants, hanging a couple of plant lights and doing emergency sewing for a colleague’s D’s wedding on Memorial Day.
The synagogue sale closes in ten days. We have identified someone to take my place as president at the end of June. I’ve had three terms. Time to pass the baton.
Went to Williamsburg with two friends a month ago – my first-ever girls’ trip – and have done a number on my knees, inc the one that was replaced four years ago. No falls, no overt injuries, but they are both really painful. Did some yardwork today and concluded I can’t wait this out.
Last night I attempted to make a chocolate roll – like a jelly roll but chocolate sponge cake filled with whipped cream and rolled. It was a disaster! – I don’t think the cake was cooked long enough. So for our company tonight, I will run to the store for blueberries and make a blueberry crisp. Much less likelihood of any problems.
Today is open after my walk in a few minutes, however, I was out all day yesterday without technology so I’ll update Saturday. We drove Chattanooga to meet part of my husbands family that lives in Franklin, TN. It’s about 2 hours for either family, so perfect meeting place. I forgot how nice they fixed up that little city down by the river around the Aquarium. Lovely restaurants and boutique shops, and of course the valley with the history filled mountains surrounding the town make it beautiful on a sunny mild spring day. It was lovely, a great afternoon with relatives we don’t see often enough.
Just finished blueberry pancake breakfast and about to walk on the treadmill after taking yesterday off. My calf was hurting so I thought that I’d rest it, but it’s still sore today so maybe I need to stretch it.
Anyway, ds2 is flying in this afternoon! Haven’t seen him since Christmas so I am excited. We’ll go to lunch and then he might go out with friends. Not sure, but tomorrow, he drives out to a little town to do some work and will be there for a few nights. I think he’ll be back here Wednesday night. Can’t wait to see him.
Quiet day at home. Started with leftover Dutch Baby pancake. Then I helped son pick flights for visiting us in December - he figured better to lock down a price now. And I. Fact, it turned out to be lower than his flights last December. Some sunbathing, and now sitting with a towel after washing hair and feeling lazy about drying it. Husband is watching some basketball game LOL. But it seems like husband is always watching some basketball game. Or hockey, or tennis, or football, or baseball…
Today we say goodbye to Älmhult and Ikea museum & hotel after a buffet breakfast and catch train to Copenhagen! We will see a lot of castles in Denmark.
I have never been on such a well-planned independent trip before. My friend booked everything and coordinated with my S to get us many nights of lodging with their points from credit cards. We are nearing the middle of our 3 week trip in Scandinavia. It’s been amazing!
Great idea, but I saw this the morning after! I wound up making an apple crisp – easier than blueberry; less likelihood of too much liquid – and I didn’t even do that well!! Everything was going nicely until it was ready to take out of the oven but the top hadn’t browned at all. So I turned on the broiler and almost burned the damn thing in only two minutes. In telling our guests about my dessert fiasco, they insisted on seeing the chocolate roll – so we wound up eating both desserts. One of our guests was a professional chef for 22 years, so feeding him is a tad intimidating. Luckily (or he wouldn’t be our friend) he’s not at all fussy!
Photo from the original Tivoli Gardens, complete with robotic lawn mower in action. Also photos from our Residence Inn in Denmark—new hotel and lovely views.
Have set my starter out to dry so I can store it safely here over the summer and take some with me to Maine. DH put up our sunscreens, and I’ve cleaned the fridge and pantry down to just the food we’ll eat before shutting the house down on Sunday. So excited to get back to Maine.
In the Delta lounge, I’m flying home today. Had a good weekend, S made sure my birthday was special with a nice dinner and drinks afterwards.
Saturday’s Oak Park tour was fantastic and seeing my college friend/ roommate/ sorority sis was icing on the cake! We do talk and text but in person is even better. I can tell her anything, and that’s mutual.
Yesterday was walking, nice lunch and dinner. I bought myself books from 2 independent bookstores ( that’s my kind of shopping).
But I’m ready to be home.
Gym, filling up tire after getting a low pressure warning, car registration, signing paperwork for our road association’s new checking account; working; lunch; phone call about my dad’s Prudential revenue checks; going back to bank to sign more paperwork they forgot about; changing driver’s license number in EZ Pass; now hopefully working?? Good grief.
I will say, though, as I was driving around running errands, I thought how thankful I am to be doing it in Maine, where everything is beautiful, and not in a big city.
I don’t know anyone who actually makes their own sourdough bread, can I just order the starter from King Arthur and start from their? There seem to be a lot of tutorials on YouTube to get me going.
You might want to read through the discussion on the Let’s Bake Bread thread where we talk about buying starter or making your own. I believe @abasket got started with sourdough from that thread, and she’s a pro now. If you ask questions there, you’ll get a lot of help.
Exhausted from babysitting grandkids, dealing with a very delayed airport train from car rental to SFO terminal and then a flight delay, helping with DH’s carryon b/c he has a broken arm, helping to organize a shivah for tomorrow night as a friend’s husband died unexpectedly yesterday and now dealing with spotty internet on the plane. Fun day. Oh did I mention that younger s was supposed to meet us for a last visit with him and one of his kids using his MIL’s car but she had a dead battery in her hybrid and they couldn’t locate a place that had a replacement.
lol I don’t know that I’m a pro - always still learning!
@threeofthree I got my starter from King Arthur January of 2024 - it’s still going strong! I/we had a bread thread that had a lot of good info on it. I have a few sourdough Instagram accounts I follow and I also just read and read !
