What are you doing today?

I spent four hours at beach today with D21. The weather was gloriously sunny and about 75 degrees. It’s still the offseason here so the beach was fairly empty. I enjoyed the tranquility today b/c I’m sure next time I come, it will be crowded! I finished my book and started another.

Got back to the house, did a load of laundry and had pizza for dinner. Then dh and I packed up his car and headed home. D21 is staying for two more days to hang out with S23 who lives/works there.

On the drive home, I was reading the news and saw this story that a plane crashed on the beach. I couldn’t believe it! It happened an hour after D21 and I left the beach. Thankfully the two people on board are apparently fine and the beach wasn’t crowded with people!

I resignedly turned on the a/c when we got home as it was super hot in our bedroom. Was trying to hold off b/c Thursday the temp drops to the 60s, Fri the high is in the 50s, with nearly a week of rain and low temps forecast. Not going to be a nice Mem Day weekend.

Two fighter jets collided at an air show at Mt. Home AFB in Idaho yesterday. All four pilots parachuted safely. The crash was caught on video. Thankfully, no one on the ground was hurt. Amazing.

Today I’m going to Costco, then getting my hair colored. This afternoon is the gym. The grandkids are coming on Thursday, so I’m getting everything set up for them. Took out some books and toys from the library yesterday. My GS told me on Facetime this morning that I shouldn’t play with the toys until he gets here.

Trying to get off the grouch wagon. I woke up fine and had a good workout, but somehow once I got to work, I got grouchy. Today is a pretty normal day - work, dinner, TV. Yesterday was not. Yesterday, I had online training at work, plus a new intern started that is technically under my supervision, but will be doing work for another engineer. So why are they under me? Probably because she’s a she…I barely have enough work at the moment to keep myself busy, let alone someone else. Grouch, grouch, grouch…

And to continue with that sentiment… stupid FedEx. There is no sign of the missing dumbbell. On Friday, I was told it was on a trailer at a facility 1 hour from me. Twice on the phone I was told “they put their best person on it, and they will be contacting me soon.” Their best person apparently is a robot, who sent an email saying they were sorry for my inconvenience and they would be looking into it. Yesterday, I got another robo email asking me to describe the package. Well, it hasn’t changed from the description I told two people on the phone on Friday. It’s a freaking 60 pound dumbbell. It’s not in a box. I sent a picture of the one they delivered on my porch. And still nothing. I could have walked to the facility and drug it home on a wagon by now. Meanwhile, H just went to Walmart and bought one in the store. He will return it if/when the other ever arrives. And Walmart said they would be refunding us something. We shall see. At least H isn’t complaining anymore, but I want this resolved.

Oh yeah - it’s also supposed to be a freakin’ 94 degrees today. It’s been stupidly gross and hot since Sunday. Fortunately, it looks like we will have a week of rain starting Thursday. We need it, and I will welcome it. Maybe that’s why I’m a grouch. I’m not ready for this. I want my sweatpants back.

Signed,

Oscar

P.S. Also for the past 2 weeks I’ve been getting a ton of spam texts trying to sell me health insurance. I don’t need health insurance. I have insurance through my employer. 1-2 years ago (or more?) I priced plans on the exchange just to see what it might be like if I retired. I’m sure that’s where it’s coming from, but MAKE IT STOP! Some days I get 12-15 a day!

Hey could y’all stop wishing for rain? Some of us have graduations to attend this weekend (no rain wishes for Sunday in particular would be appreciated). Overcast is good (graduation is in full sun) but no rain please. Thank you for your cooperation.:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

We have a full week of rain ahead of us and of course have outdoor plans fast approaching. One event we can skip but I think I need to order new rain ponchos!

We had a GREAT day today. Started with lovely hotel breakfast compliments of Residence Inn. Then we caught metro and bus to Fredricksborg Castle, toured the public rooms, chapel and the grounds. Had brief lunch and then went to Christianborg Castle stable & public rooms, had dinner and walked around waterfront near our hotel. All in all, lovely grounds and tons of walking!

Right now I’m reclining in a chair, looking out over the Columbia River, enjoying the sun. Yesterday we did some wine tasting, today it will be a walk in town, maybe hit up a tasting room, but pretty much taking it easy.

Dinner will be crab cakes we brought from home, fresh asparagus, and a bottle of wine from our purchases yesterday.

Looks like I’m going to the Padres Dodgers game tonight. In true D2 fashion friends of hers gave her 2 tickets since they can’t go tonight. D2’s other friends are all busy so I got the call to see if I wanted to go. I can never turn down a baseball game when our Padres are playing the Dodgers!

Today the sea called to me and I answered.

In other words, I told myself to get off my duff and get some exercise. So I ran (aka drove) down to Cabrillo for a cliffside stroll.

The Navy is always doing something.

It was so nice I took myself to Shelter Island (husband wasn’t interested in joining me) for a hot dog and draft berry cider on the fishing pier.

And enjoyed the lovely view.

Always nice to reinforce why I spent 10 years getting us moved here!

I worked today. Tuesdays are my busiest days usually and today was no different. I took a late lunch and sat outside to enjoy the weather. I totally forgot the Blue Angels were practicing today for tomorrow’s show so I got to see them while I ate my lunch. 30 years of watching them and it never gets old!

Tomorrow is my birthday but dh and I went out to eat tonight to celebrate at a restaurant I’ve been wanting to try for years. Service was wonderful and the food really good. Tomorrow night we will celebrate at home with two of our kids.

Just remembered I needed to change our mobile plans back to the cheaper plans we were on. I changed them to a plan that included international calls/data for while we were in Italy. Thankfully I remembered today b/c the new billing cycle starts tomorrow and it doesn’t prorate so I changed just in time (three plans, b/c D21 is now back from study abroad, saved us $75).

Now off to read and hit the hay!

Worked. Now relaxing after dinner.

During lunch, accomplished impossible: made Mr. B renew his drivers license and also make a dealership appointment for a minor recall on his truck. Tomorrow I will be nagging him to set up his SS account. Wish me luck!

Chemo day for the pup. Her pre-procedure meds render her stoned for much of the day. Watered plants. So many of them. DH returned home from a quick overseas work trip. For the first time in many years I didn’t have to drive to Dulles and back to pick him up. That’s four hours of my life I reclaimed!

More synagogue stuff from all corners. I’m posting here instead of drafting the email that needs to go to the board.

It was 94 here today. It’s supposed to be rainy and/or cold (highs in the low 50s) all weekend. We are camping. Memorial Day weekend almost always has this weather pattern.

Spent the day scrubbing walls and baseboards, tackling stubborn scuffs and marks, then finishing things off with touch-up paint to make everything feel fresh again. Order has officially been restored… at least for the moment.

I slept terribly last night – the grandkids and their parents are coming tomorrow and I have 8,000,000 things still to do to get ready for them. But today I’m going into NYC for lunch and a matinee (Becky Shaw) with two good friends from high school, so everything will have to wait until tonight and tomorrow morning.

I got up later than usual, and the furnace guy was on his way already for our semiannual furnace/AC check. I work out in the basement, so I’m currently hanging out in my bedroom until he’s done. I’ll do my workout once he leaves.

I have an appointment with the doctor to evaluate my tick bite. I was just going to watch & wait, but my D encouraged me to contact my doctor - I was instructed to come in & to bring my tick-in-a-baggie.

We’ll go to dinner at a nice restaurant tonight to celebrate our anniversary. It was last week, but we’ve both had colds & we wanted to get over them first so we could enjoy the food.

I also have my semi annual HVAC check today. The window I have been given is 7AM -8PM. Yep. I’m stuck here all day.

I have already run a load of laundry and packed up a bag and 2 boxes of miscellaneous stuff to drop off at the ARC resale store. I have a bunch of paperwork to go through, too.

Hoping they come fairly early and I can get out to walk later.

That is archaic and not ok to not be able to give a shorter time frame or an hour warning or something. Disrespectful of a human’s time - retired or not! I hope they come early!
