What are you doing today?

I also have a grandchild arriving tomorrow. I also did a big grocery shopping and a trip to Costco where I bought lots of fruit and tri tip to grill this weekend. I have local grandchildren who will also be coming over along with their parents.

Great idea to get the car seat checked. My daughter always pushed us to do the same.

The police officer was very nice and helpful. And now my son and DIL feel better too.

Well, I woke up at an ungodly hour to take ds2 to the airport in the rain. It’s not a long drive and was delighted that I was able to go back to sleep for three hours. Worked out blah blah blah.

Big event was my second cataract consult. I have a better idea of what to expect. The best news is that he doesn’t not think my numbers and other indicators are enough to merit glaucoma treatment. We’ll keep monitoring it and may do something down the line.

Then dh and I went to an early dinner. Right now, waiting for the final Colbert to start. He is one of my crushes.

One random thought … this cataract surgery is my first age-related malady. This time, the wait room was full of really old people. One couple was so cantankerous with each other. I texted a friend that I want to get hit by a bus at 85.

S1, DIL and grandkids are finally in the air. (Their flight was canceled yesterday for no discernible reason.) They should be here in around two hours, so I still have time to tidy up the kitchen. My S and SIL are neat freaks, and I always feel I’m never up to their standards.

They will amuse themselves in the afternoon while DH and I go to his appointment at the wound care clinic. It sucks having an ill husband.

Quite pretty

Watercolor class was postponed from Tuesday. So it was tonight. Here is tonight’s effort.

Lovely work, Thumper!

Colbert was the speaker at UVA Valedictory exercises when D graduated. He was an amazing speaker.
Lots of rain this past week which was much needed but made for a slow week. Usual Pilates and dog walks. My Russian silver age class met and we learned more about the Ballet Russes. I’ll have to miss the last class as unfortunately we’re out of town. Life is pretty boring!

Nursing a hangover. A little too much Reunion and Commencement bubbly last night.

Wow what a win on that commencement speaker!

I’ll be going to the local farmers market in a while. They are having a cookbook and small kitchen gadget exchange and I’ll be dropping off some stuff there. Win-win!

D and I plan to hang out together with GS this afternoon. We’ll probably go for a long walk and take the dog. SIL and GD are going to the professional soccer game together.

It’s sort of dreary weather today here. So, I’m going to do all of my errands today. If it’s still dreary tomorrow, I’ll clean out my closet!

GD spent the night last night. She woke up at 7 and wanted to make a hair salon for her toys. After making pancakes, we began the process of creating the salon using a box & construction paper. She worked on it for more than two hours! It’s really cute, and she was so excited to show it to her mom.

We are supposed to go to our cottage today, but it’s cold & rainy. We’ll head out a bit later and stop for dinner on the way. The cottage doesn’t have heat - we have a small electric wall heater & a small radiator-like mobile heater … so when it’s wet & cold, it’s not a good time. We have to head out today, because H’s cousin is stopping by in the morning to spend a few days while en route from NC to a golf outing in WI. Luckily, it’s supposed to dry out tomorrow, but it will still be a bit chilly.

What am I doing right now? Waiting for H to finish up his shopping at Walmart. We always split up with 2 carts and I’m usually done well before him - hence why we split up, lol

I ran at oh dark thirty for 6 miles in the rainy cool weather. Rain wasn’t bad. I didn’t care for the wind. Then 20 min stairmonster and light lifting. Then a bit of cleaning before a nap.

After Walmart we are headed to the used bookstore out of town, then to Costco in the big city since we didn’t make it last week, and then to a diner we noticed while walking in the big city last week.

My mom was a medical transcriptionist and D liked to pretend they were going to work at “Daisy Medical Associates” together when she grew up so she made a little registration desk for patients to check in. Dad was a frequent patient! She also made a little library similar to your GD’s hair salon with library cards for the entire family.

I know I already posted about my week, but I guess my mind wasn’t awake yet! Last night we had dinner with some folks from the SPCA. We are going to help fund a new clinic which will save substantial veterinary costs and help get animals to homes faster since they won’t be waiting so long for services as they’ll all be in-house. It was nice to meet some new people. Earlier this week I bid on some more Roseville pottery and picked up my piece on Thursday. I made myself go to the gym this morning and spend some time on the elliptical.
Okay, now I’m done.

Closing down the house to leave for Maine on a red-eye tomorrow night. Yay! No food left in the fridge or pantry, so we’re taking my mom out to our favorite Mexican place for dinner tonight. We’ll have lunch out tomorrow and will treat our friends who are driving us to the airport to dinner on the way. Goodbye desert, hello woods and water and chipmunks! My next post here should be from my porch swing.

And now FedEx closed the case claiming they can’t find the dumbbell. Yesterday, I got another email saying they would close the case if I couldn’t provide the model and serial number of the dumbbell. It’s a dumbbell. There’s no serial number. I screenshotted the order of the item on Walmart.com that described everything; but apparently it’s not enough. I hate FedEx. And then they sent me a survey about my experience. Let’s just say I had fun with that one.

My doc wants me to get the second knee replaced. The thought of it puts me in a panic and it’s been four years since the first. Bend that knee as soon as you can, as often as you can. Took me nine months to get to 115 degrees, which was three months after PT ended.

It’s a Jewish holiday but I spent half of it dealing with a new crisis with the sale. Buyer did not follow its demonination’s requirements for procuring real estate and a mortgage and now everything is held up until that is resolved. Buyer’s broker is whining that the lender didn’t tell her about the clause in the church’s own policies and procedures. Never have a residential real estate represent you in a commercial transaction, folks – they are two different animals and we are going to pay the price for their lack of attention to detail.

Good thing we cancelled the camping trip due to all the rain here.

Went out for dinner tonight. Comfort food. Will actually go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight!

Yesterday I went into NYC with the grandkids and their parents. We went to the American Museum of Natural History. The weather was horrible, it’s Memorial Day Weekend, and I swear everyone in the tristate area was there. It was crowded! Then, in the middle of the visit, I got some horrible stomach flu. I was running through the crowds in the museum so I could get to the ladies room and puke in the trash container. A nice lady let me jump in front of her for the next stall. I also puked on the subway, but luckily S and DIL had some plastic bags in their backpack that I was able to use. That was fun for the grandkids to see. When we got home I just went to bed. I’m feeling better this AM but we’ll see how it goes.

The kids enjoyed the train from Connecticut to NYC, and then also the subway. It was their first time in NYC. I think the next time we do it, we should take the train in and then all go to see The Lion King or Aladdin or something like that. Much more peaceful.
