What are your top five songs and bands

I so missed that Clash concert, @privatebanker. At least I saw The Who’s “Last” and Talking Head’s Stop Making Sense concerts.

I did see the Ramones. Twice. Definitely above 135 db. Traumatized me for years.

Carry on my wayward son. Kansas.

Sadly never saw the Clash live. But did see Jonathan Richman once, @whidbeyite2002 at the Fast Lane in Asbury Park.

@privatebanker still torn up over Dolores’s death. Been listening to their last album a lot.

Do soloists count as “bands”. Can we add that category?

Bands

Earth Wind and Fire
Beatles
Eagles
Blood Sweat and Tears (I really miss the bigger brass sections)
Moody Blues (miss those strings)

Have to add a sixth…Queen.

Songs

Hotel California
Stairway to Heaven
Here, there and everywhere.
My Girl (actually many Temptation songs)
Dancing Queen

Soloists

Lady Gaga
Bruce Springsteen
Elton John
Linda Rondstadt
Paul McCartney

Come Sail Away - Styx

Saw them in concert once and the whole venue sang along. It’s such an infectious song how could we not. Also, my D surprised me a couple years ago by playing that song at her last middle school piano recital. She did a great job and proud mom had to wipe a few tears away.

I like a lot of music but in the last 15 years or so I’ve mostly just listened to The Killers .My favorite song by then is Dustland Fairytale , which also has an amazing video.

I grew up listening to WBRU which was Brown University’s student radio statiin . It was awesome back in the day, but now sadly defunct. Providence used to attract some great emerging artists to place like The Living Room and Lupos, and I would sneak out of my house, pick up my girlfrjend, and go watch some amazing shows. Good times!!!
Some bands we saw back then The Cure, REM,Inxs, The Replacements,

@RightCoaster No way. I actually saw the Ramones at the living room. Cafferty at Lupos. Kansas Boston clash billy Joel James Taylor Aerosmith at old civic center.

For anyone who does like Simon and Garfunkel. Or at least sound of silence.

Google “disturbed - sound of silence cover” and stick with it to the end. It’s really off the hook. And contemporary.

There are too many to list…I forgot James Taylor and +1 on Bonnie Raitt.

What about Prince?

The Disturbed cover of “Sound of Silence” is powerful.

@garland, I was almost a Jonathan Richman groupie. He performed in Boston so often that it was easy.

@privatebanker that’s cool. I’ve been to too many shows throughout the years when I was younger. I can’t deal with it now, but those were some great times! Tons of great bands came through.
My favorite concerts were Oasis at Lupos when they just got famous and the Vio!ent Femmes at Lops. And I got to see The Smiths before their demise so that was cool.

Linkin Park nirvana and Radiohead have had impact on me too. Creep is ubiquitous.

I am in the process of making a playlist for our biannual 80s party and there are just too many songs for me to choose 5 to pick as my favorites. I am a huge new wave (80s fan) and my favorite Sirius XM station is First Wave (my CC handle inspiration).

I LOVE Billy Idol and have since 1981
White Wedding guitar riff is my ringtone…

@firstwavemom Come on. Give us a few that haven’t been listed.

Ah ha. Or Corey Hart. Never surrender

Flock. Adam ant. Something. Come on. Lol.
