What do you love that almost everyone else hates??

I loved deviled ham on some sort of soft Pepperidge Farm bread. I never heard of having it with mustard or lettuce.I haven’t had it in probably 40 years. I think I’ll buy some this weekend, for old times sake. I just checked the Underwood website (does anyone else make this stuff?). They also make a liverwurst spread. Now that’s yucky!

I love black licorice. I love Good and Plenty. I also love the song “McArthur Park”. I have no idea why, but I do. I know, everyone hates it.

Yes to the Underwood can, and ditto, I used to put it on white bread with a little mustard and some lettuce!

I admit there is probably some nostalgia working here rather than the possibility that it was a tasty dish. But I’m willing to try it and see how it measures up to my grown up life.

I’ll taste it in the next few days.

My dad used to buy C-rations at the commissary outlet for us when we went camping! Army green tin cans with mystery meat…

Yes, spam musubi is a HI picnic staple, but Was NOT one of the things we had when we traveled with the kids. We mainly had bread and salami and meat spreads and fruit. Also juice boxes and water. The kids tease us, but it was cheap and easy, no lines and we enjoyed the hot meals we did have.

Military MREs are loaded with calories and salt–ok for young folks who are out in the field doing s lot of work and perspiring, but not so good for us older more sedentary types. H enjoys MREs–I’m not such a fan.

Islay whisky
Single-village mezcal
Fernet Branca

Esoteric products.

Okay, so I opened my tiny tin of deviled ham, spread it on a piece of bread with some mustard and lettuce, and it tasted just like I remembered it. It was fine. I don’t know if I liked it because it reminded me of childhood or because I actually liked it.

My cat never shows interest in anything I eat, but today she came right up to my sandwich and tried to muscle in. Not a good endorsement when my food smells to her like her own canned cat food.

Might have to pick up a can myself, just for the nostalgia factor.

A year ago, I was remembering fried bologna that we used to eat as kids so I recreated that. No bueno.

I thought of another one - I love it when the power goes out during the winter. We have lots of gear and a pretty good stash of wood for the fireplace. Everything gets so quiet, reading by headlamp in front of the fire, cares disappear.

marvin, you’re speaking my language with your liquor choices.

ETA: cares disappear as long as it is above about 20 degrees and the pipes won’t freeze, and even for me it gets old after 5 or 6 days.

With all this talk of canned meat, I almost bought a tin of Vienna sausages. Almost

Dunno if people hate them, but I love sardines.

H loves sardines and Vienna sausages. I’m not a fan but have known to eat them once in a great while and we sometimes have them on our shelf.

This thread is making me crave a hot dog, which I almost never eat.

I agree with you on sardines, @marvin100. It was on my post #50. Excellent source of calcium, too!

No to vienna sausages.

Ah yes, H also loves hot dogs and salami and many preserved meats which I try to minimize, since they are shown to be bad for lung function.

Sardines, avocado, and hot sauce sandwiches.

That sounds pretty good! You guys are making me hungry.

Salami is bad for lungs? Oh, no.

A really good hot dog is nothing to look down your nose at. I mean, really, a GREAT hot dog is right up there with steak and lobster in terms of pleasure received.
