What Do You Think The Key To Popularity Is?

What do you think is the most important factor of getting to be popular & why?

I vote for charm (really nice and sweet) because if someone seems nice it makes you want to be their friend.

The ability to feign friendship. The more people you can dupe into thinkng they’re your friends, the better.

Depends on what the definition of “popular” is. If your definition is the person with the most friends, then it’s usually the most positive and talkative people who will talk to brick wall. Usually though, so-called “popular” people are those that are envied by others for something. In this case, those people are likely to be attractive and/or rich so that they can always have people following them and always have people over. From my experience, the key to actually being popular is attractiveness because those people are almost always admired by members of the other sex and respected by members of their own.

Having a good personality, most of all. A pleasant, humble person, who never brags, but earns the respect of his/her peers by impressing them by academics etc. Someone who gives a lot to everyone and helps them with everything.

attractiveness, how much of a jerk you are (most “jerkiness” makes you more popular, being a conformist, being on the football or basketball team, and being able to drink a lot.

How many time you jerk off a day

popularity depends upon what school you go to, area you live in, depends on a lot of stuff

I don’t think the thread poster was referring to kindergarten.

i agree with brinestorm. I think it depends on how many people you can fool into liking you and thinking they are your friend. The most popular girls at my school pretend they like you, but talk behind your back. They are also all very pretty, wear expensive clothes, wear a lot of makeup, and party a lot. So basically…the key to popularity is fakeness.

i agree with “popularity is being fake”

in my own words, i’d say popularity is how you fit your personality according to others.

True.

It’s not about looks, or personality, or charm, or anything like that. It’s how others see you. Popular people set out to make others see them in a certain way. They have to do it right though, otherwise they’re wannabees or losers.

But the exception is sports. The star athletes in basketball and football are automatically popular.

Rent the movie thirteen. Really. It’ll give you an answer. It isnt a pretty answer.

Miranda

I have often thought the better name for the “popular kids” would be the …“MEAN KIDS” could just be envy, could be observation… but it is what I think!

Hm, in observation of them I actually think that a popular “group” needs several things.

One or two genuinely nice people.
A lot of pretty people that vary in how stuck-up they are.
One or two genuinely mean and stuck up people.
A good portion also need to be rich(in comparison to the rest of the school).

The genuinely nice ppl are usually necessary to keep the group from being entirely hated forever and ever. This might just be one person. But a lot of benefit the one person does to the group.
Popular kids are only really seen as ‘popular’ kids because they’re exclusive. Those one or two generally mean kids can help with that. I remember last year at my school, at the very end, the two meanest girls of the “popular group” actually fell of their thrones. The rest of the group decided that they were way too mean, and kicked them out of the group. There was much rejoicing.
Then the rest obviously have to make up the rest of the group, otherwise it’s not a group. They’re usually pretty conformist and it takes a little while to tell the difference between them.

Just a stereotype of what I’ve observed and have heard from ppl at several places around my area. :)

Popular people are ususally:

Good looking

Athletic

Charming

Funny

Like to party!

charisma, trendy clothes

I’d just like to point out that the MOST popular girl (let’s forget about the guys for now) is usually not the prettiest girl. The reason being is that the other girls usually harbor a secret/not so secret hatred for the prettiest girl. I find that the most popular girl is usually the one whose really outgoing, not extremely goodlooking where her looks will intimidate other females, and GENERALLY liked by the majority on the acquaintence level.

At my high school, the most popular girl was black. I went to a predominantly white school in which all the guys liked white girls, thus she wasn’t intimidating to the other females.

I agree with neelesh. Popular people might be nice or might be mean, but they’ll also be those 5 things.

It is absolutely about looks! Who do people think of as the popular kids? The cheerleaders and the jocks. Do you ever remember a time when you said, “DAMN those popular kids are ugly.” Intelligence certainly doesn’t matter, and neither does personality once you have already been accepted into the popular group.

I think it is confidence… I have noticed some not so pretty girls who are popular, and some okay smart girls who are popular. They all exude confidence and don’t take anything from anyone. Because they are so confident, every one thinks they are the greatest.

I don’t know what kind of parties you’ve all been going to, but the most popular ones are obviously the ones
with the neatest TI 89 tricks
who can solve a rubik’s cube the fastest
the nimblest mathematical minds/top scoring math leaguers
the best mechanical aptitude.
most of all, absolutely desperately dyingly in love with science

Get a life, stop worrying.
