What exactly is study hall?

I have study hall on my schedule i am suprised because i didnt sign up for it infact i didnt get a lot of the classes i signed up for but whatever. So what is it? Is it like a hang out class with some studying or are they really serious about you studying? I have like adhd (not really just a bit) and i get super bored just sitting there working and when teachers tell you to shut up i start twitching.

Study hall is a free period.
I think the general rule is you can do anything in the room as long as you’re pretty quiet.
Depends on the teacher though…
freshman year the teacher wouldnt let us even move but sophomore year we had parties every day.

You guys have to stay in the room for free period?!
Man, I pretty much went to Tim Hortons every single day. We’re allowed to leave the school.

Yea. My friends and I go downtown everyday during free period and grab something to eat.

I guess it depends? If your study hall means “sit in the library and do hw because this is a ‘legitimate’ class”, then you might not have as much freedom. If study hall is actually a code word for ‘free period’, then you’re golden buddy.

well im a frosh and there is a room number so does it really mean i can do whatever i want?

Hahaha there’s a room number? I think that means you have to sit in that room. In my highschool if you have a blank space in your timetable then its a free period/spare. We don’t even have a specific room to go to.

Its not a blank space lol its just says study hall then it has a room number and teacher.

Well I guess you’ll just have to wait and see :]

Weird. Most people sign up for that pointless class.

At my school there isn’t even a blank space. They number your classes and whatever number is missing is your free period.

as a senior you can leave campus, so were probably going to hit up a few spots on a daily basis…Mickey D’s, mexican food, deli, etc.

Yea well they give us a lot of electives and i dont have to take gym since i play football. Im guessing a lot of the electives i signed up for were too popular for a freshman to get into since upperclassmen get first pick.

^Like horticulture? smirk :]

ahh jersey sucks.
we dont get the liberty and freedom of leaving the building.

In Canada, you can leave the building if you’re older than sixteen. It’s only supposed to be seniors who have free periods, but I got like three so far. I wasn’t sixteen for my first one, and it was so boring. I just walked around, visited classes…

My school has an open campus policy.

So people can just leave during lunch, brunch, free periods, or bathroom breaks. No one questions you. It’s really nice :]

The janitors give you funky looks though. They’ve seen one too many students cut classes…

Roflmao HORTICOLTURE cracks you have obviously never seen my schools green houses

^HAHA. Your school has greenhouses??!!

Dude, forget leaving campus. Just go to your greenhouse during study hall :]

smirks even more

I’ve always wondered this too. None of the schools in my area have study hall. Wow, I can’t believe you guys get the freedom of doing whatever or leaving campus. No one is supposed to leave campus but if you’re a senior, it’s looked the other way by security guards and assistant principles.

greenhouses!?
brunch?!
This is blasphemy.
What kind of deprived high school have I been going to all my life?

^I wonder the same thing. My school doesn’t have any of the things they talk about.
