Corona beer with Rose’s lime juice. It’s what’s for breakfast. (Jk–I usually wait until it’s 5 o’clock somewhere.) Got a 12 pk of Corona when this thing first started. S#3 and I (the only beer drinkers in the family) have finished it.
My #2 is a modified Aperol spritz made with cheap boxed white wine that H got at Walgreens, Sprite, and just a splash of Aperol for the color.
I am generally a non-drinker. H, S#2 and I have probably gone through 1000 pots of tea. But I admit that our alcohol consumption has increased a bit lately.
At the Virginia ABC (at least ours), the store is cordoned off. You are greeted by an employee and have to tell them what you want. It’s gathered and placed at the register for you. People are separated by lines of masking tape (6 feet apart) while they wait in line.
They seem to do a brisk business. At least from my observations.
Discovered last weekend, when we tried to make Baileys and coffee that the Baileys, though it had been unopened, was old and bad Fortunately we have a wine cellar
We spent two months in Dublin a couple of years ago on a business trip and had to eat out three times a day, pub every night and, of course, toured all the distilleries and the Guinness Factory. DH is a beer lover and was SO looking forward to that “difference” many note, but he was disappointed as he did not detect even the slightest taste variation in his favorite beer despite the gallons he consumed in his attempt to do so.
We are fortunate that we don’t have to leave our community for alcohol re-supply. We are members of our club’s Wine Vault (our dues provide us with vault space) and order our wine and spirits through them. When we eat at the club restaurant or bar (in the “old” days), we can order from the menu or pull from our stock. Now that the restaurant is closed, we can do curbside pickup for either food or alcohol, and the club is continuing to allow members to order additional wine and spirits for vault re-stock or pickup.
@ChoatieMom He is, in fact, completely correct in his assessment. The variation in the taste of Guinness between Irish pubs and U.S. bars, all things being equal, is quite minuscule.
A Dark ‘n’ Stormy tastes better overlooking Horseshoe Bay in Bermuda.
An Irish Coffee tastes better at the Buena Vista in San Fran.
A Bellini tastes better at Harry’s Bar in Venice.
You won’t believe this, but back in the day Guinness took a keg right off the line and flew it to my company in under 16 hours, door to door. We had that keg hooked up side by side with one sourced locally in the U.S. Both tasted almost exactly the same. Unless you knew exactly what to focus on you would never be able to tell the difference.
@GKUnion, he really was disappointed because he thought it proved his taste buds were not as sharp as he liked to think. On the other hand, he’d totally agree that enjoying the beer among the Irish in any of their charming pubs made up for it. The experience of drinking in Ireland was not at all disappointing.
We’ve been breaking in H’s wine collection. We decided it was stupid to just let the wine sit there. Favorites so far: a Pinot Noir from California (Dumol Vineyards) and an Italian Barolo (Giacomo Conterno). Younger D, who’s staying here for the quarantine, likes beer. I almost never drink it, but the local general store has drive up delivery and there are two tlocal beers, Sankaty Light (MA) and Green Mountain (VT), that are pretty good.
Today is my lucky day. Bought a beautiful “mojito mint” plant at the local nursery. Discovered I have Mojito mix in the house - so we will be enjoying Mojitos this week!
We are sitting in our car waiting for one local winery to open up their drive through shop. They have a nice rose. Gotta get a few bottles and support the woman-owned small business.
