It looks like @sushiritto 's anti-preference for the cheese on the pizza (post #144) goes against popular opinion.
Well, you made great use of whatever coupon or deal they offered. lol
I love eggplant on my pizza…apparently that is a food crime to many!
And proud of it. I consider it a badge of honor. Cheese, bread, oil, processed meat, etc. not good for you.
Processed meat - . Cheese, bread, oil - depends on the type and quantity!
All right. I forgot to copy the checkout page but i found my bill in the email. I saved like $37 — so you kicked my butt on per-pizza savings (lol that was insane), but i won on the aggregate.I just could not bring myself to put 20 toppings on a pizza. And i picked mine up, so i didn’t want to be that guy and face sneering faces. hehe. You’ll just have to take my word for it — i saved about $37.

That’s a good sample of different topping combinations, as well as a lot of total pizza. I find it interesting that you chose pan, thin, and NY style rather than hand tossed. I also like all of those (particularly pan and NY style), but I wouldn’t choose those styles when ordering a pizza with a lot of toppings… or at least the selected toppings.
Pan / deep dish is a smaller diameter, making less room for toppings. The cooking style also dramatically increases the fat %, so I find it tastes better without higher fat % toppings, further increasing the high fat %. For example, I think vegetable toppings on a pan work much better than extra cheese or sausage. Perhaps this relates to why you skipped the cheddar/provolone/parmesan cheese toppings on the pan, but included on the others; as well as why you chose fewer toppings in total (5 on pan vs 7/8 on others).
With thin crust and NY style, the topping to crust ratio gets too high when there are a large number of toppings. I find higher sodium toppings are particularly problematic. I think hand tossed is the best option for a large number of toppings.
Thank you for catching it!
My food crime? I don’t eat a lot of meat, but when I do, I prefer it very, very well done.
Filet mignon? Charred. Yummy yummy char.
Turkey breast? Very dry. Like jerky.
I’m drinking yesterday’s coffee, reheated in the microwave
Me too!!! . Sort of like the 5 second rule if something falls on the floor. The 24 hour coffee rule.
From the cocktail files… Buffalo Trace Bourbon with a dash of Rivesaltes Ambre desert wine
I just ate raw ramen noodles, so I have no room to judge anyone’s food crimes
Today’s food crime is I had fancy ice cream and (fancy) potato chips for dinner. Chips were eaten while drinking Cloudy Bay Sav Blanc, after watching the sunset on the beach in Maui. We figure we saved a LOT of money by not going out :). Tomorrow’s dinner will be much better/healthier, i promise. We did have salads for lunch.
Poke and kimchi?
Now we’re talking.
I thought that the NY Style slices were wide enough to handle the overabundance of meat. That pizza was delicious.
The thin crust with 8 (lol) varied toppings was a bit more of a balancing act – the chicken especially wanted to fall off – but man, it was really good. If I am ever in a position to order that combination of toppings again, I will.
The deep-dish was fairly predictable, as that is our favorite “deluxe” combo of toppings. It was a bit dry – could have used more sauce – but its saving grace was the caramelization of the outside crust. I think the low amount of sauce was a one-off, as I’ve had this style before and it’s typically been adequately sauced.
ETA – I didn’t order the hand-tossed because I’m not a huge fan of it. In my experience, it’s overly chewy.
I’ve actually eaten domino’s, but I consider most of our local NJ pizzerias to be NY style, and of course they’re hand tossed. NY crust is thin and foldable.
It’s odd though – Domino’s “New York Style” is a softer finished product than their original hand-tossed, in my experience, and goes down easier as a result. I don’t know exactly how to explain it other than to say that the hand-tossed original crust is chewy. I do like the garlic butter they brush on that crust, but it’s work to get there. hehe
I ordered another large topping pizza today, which again generated some comments with the person taking my order. This order may be more controversial than my earlier one, particularly with the left side. This is the first time I’ve ordered pineapple on a pizza in more than ten years. I chose toppings that I thought I’d enjoy with the pineapple on the left side, rather than what is traditional and what I had problems with in the past. For example, based on past experience with other types of meals, I expect that I’d enjoy pineapple + chicken more than pineapple + ham, and certainly more than pineapple + pepperoni. I also set it to “light” pineapple, rather than standard amount. The right side has a meat theme and is all safe toppings that I knew I’d enjoy.
I found the right side to be exceptional – one of the best tasting pizzas I’ve had in a long time. However, the left side was lacking. I don’t dislike it, but it is worse than my usual. I think the problem is the feta cheese. This is my first time having feta cheese, and I don’t enjoy it. The feta cheese has unique flavor and aftertaste that is overpowering the other toppings, including the pineapple, in spite of being just “light”. I may order the pineapple + chicken again, but definitely won’t choose feta cheese. I’ve only had one slice. Perhaps that slice had an uneven distribution, and the other 3 cheeses (mozzarella, parmesan, and asiago) will have a stronger flavor impact on the other slices.
