I must admit – I have a lot of catching up to do. Today I saw Spectre; tomorrow, Spotlight; then Sunday, Bridge of Spies.
re: Spectre – I think even Daniel Craig is getting tired of the franchise. I know I am. Even the villain wasn’t very good.
Interested to hear from other CC’ers what they saw and what they thought.
We saw Bridge of Spies a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was excellent. Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance are two of my favorite actors. H was hoping for a little more “action” but he enjoyed it as well.
Next up is Spotlight either tonight or tomorrow. It’s gotten really good reviews so I’m looking forward to it. Also on my list is Trumbo.
ETA: I saw Spectre mainly because H loves the James Bond movies. I was bored. Same old, same old but with new actresses, location, technology, etc. I just don’t get the fascination…
We saw Spectre. We all liked it- but I will admit, my favorite part was Daniel Craig’s wardrobe. His clothes fit like a glove and he looks good in everything.
I saw Mockingjay pt 2 last weekend. It was great.
It’s the first time I’d gone to the movies in years… I forgot how freaking expensive it was (and yes, I’m a sucker for the popcorn and whatnot.)
^^^ We are walking out the door in 20 minutes to go see it (Mockingjay)… H and daughters are fans… I just go along for the popcorn. Our new movie theater is the kind that only has recliners, which is awesome, and tickets are only $12.25 or so a piece.
Romani, check if you can knock a buck or two off the ticket price with your student discount. Our movie theater does not advertise that they have student rates… if you ask, yes they do…
S1 learned to read via Peanuts – he took me to see the movie yesterday and it was fabulous. We also have seen Spotlight, which ought to earn many many awards.
Mockingjay Part 2 - very good, but thought it could have been better. Maybe my expectations were too high. I love the ending of Book 3 and just felt they didn’t totally capture it. To my surprise I loved Mockingjay Part 1, so I was a tiny bit disappointed with Part 2.
Creed - it was OK but I am not understanding the stellar reviews.
I really enjoyed Bridge of Spies. The pacing and acting was superb. I also saw Spotlight. Interesting and important story, but it was a little too “talky” for me. I’m glad I saw it as it was an important topic, but for me, it wasn’t in the same category with Bridge of Spies in terms of entertainment. Btw, we saw them both as matinees in Central Arkansas and the tickets were only $5.50 - what a bargain!
And I saw Suffragette in London last month. Tough movie to watch and def not a “feel good” film. But again, important topic and well made.
