What new summer show do you recommend?

I’ve caught Downward Dog, which I really like, but am not sure what else is worth trying…
In previous summers, I typically watched stuff like the ‘USA Blue Skies’ dramedies but they seem to have disappeared, I liked Mr.Robot 1st season but not 2nd season, I also like Major Crimes. I don’t like Breaking Bad even though I know it’s very good.
So, what’s starting in June or July that’d be worth it (or perhaps is only in its 2nd second and I could catch up on)?

These days, the best drama, comedy, sci-fi and educational programming is on CNN and MSNBC…

Lol, true.
But… any recommendation about new shows starting this summer (or that started last summer)?

I’ve been watching $100,000 pyramid on Sunday nights.
I remember watching it growing up and it is one of the games shows that I like.
I end up thinking about what clues I would give to get the correct answer.

The new black is orange just started for season 5.
I am watching on Netflix.
I am still watching “Better call Saul” which I love even though I could not
enjoy Breaking Bad.
Fargo is one of the best and the most disturbing shows I have ever seen
H now knows I cannot watch is late at night as my sleep is too disturbed.
I do not know of any fun and good new stuff for summer…
Although I am still watching the Indestructible Kimmy that took me
a good season or two to enjoy.

I’ve been watching Einstein on Nat Geo - I’d recommend it if you haven’t seen it. But it came out this spring.

The comic book geek in me is awaiting The Defenders.

I think The Defenders isn’t coming out until mid/late August though, right @skieurope ?
Did you see the trailer with Matthew Murdoch arriving at a police interview to be Jessica Jones’ lawyer?
I’m really hoping I like Danny better as part of The Defenders than I did in The Iron Fist.

Yes, 8/18, but that’s still summer in this hemisphere.

Yup.

Big Brother starts soon!!! Our summer guilty pleasure.

Agreed, but OP did ask about new shows, not ones that are in their 19th season.

Alrighty, I didn’t read it as “new” never shown, just “new” to summer. Are there that many shows that premiere in the summer as series???

Yes, but mostly reality shows like Big Brother or Bachelor in Paradise, or else series on cable. Orange is the New Black and Game of Thrones are examples of scripted summer series.

The second season of Preacher starts on June 25 on AMC.

@skieurope oh, I know. My disappointment though is I feel like I have been waiting since I binged on Iron Fist when it first came out and Defenders is coming out while I am on vacation. I’m guessing my family won’t appreciate if I binge on Netflix during vacation, so I’ll have to wait a whole extra week for it and try not to read online message boards.

Most of the scripted summer shows aren’t very good really. That’s why they are on in summer rather than during the more competitive regular season.

I’m watching Stitchers and Shadowhunters on Freeform. I’m waiting for the final 1/2 season of Teen Wolf on MTV, but I haven’t seen when it’s going to start. Teen Wolf has been a great series that I wish/hope they would put on Netflix because I’d love to watch it again from the beginning.

None of those are brand new series though. The only commercials I remember seeing for new series are for the Candy Crush game show.

The new season of Granchester starts this Sunday on PBS and there is a new show preceding that one called My Mother & Other Strangers. I think there are only 6 episodes of Granchester each season and we are starting season 3. I think you can probably find a way to stream the other 2 seasons online so you could get into the storyline.

I love Downward Dog! Wynonna Earp is also a fun show, I’m looking forward to GLOW on Netflix, and I’ll inevitably watch Shark Week.

Not loving OITNB this time around. I’m looking forward to Big Brother. Based on someone’s recommendation on another thread we’re watching and loving Married At First Sight. Planning to watch Claws pretty soon. Has anyone tried that?

I sometimes get sucked into America’s Got Talent in the summer (although I’m not usually a fan of contest shows like this), but where else do you get a deaf woman who can sing beautifully, a dog that does math, and 10-year-old ventriloquist who can sing incredibly well without moving a muscle in her face?

I’m in the middle of Grace and Frankie on Netflix, although the third season came out this spring. This is one of the few shows I find myself laughing out loud at even when watching alone.

The new season of the Fosters starts next month, along with a new Freeform show called The Bold Type, about the lives of young women working for a Cosmo-type magazine. Could be fluffy summer fun, or just dumb. It stars one of the actors from another Freeform summer show I liked called Chasing Life, which was canceled last year after a couple seasons.

Alas, my old super-soapy summer guilty pleasure, Devious Maids, has been canceled.
