I’m jealous of you people in NYC.

I can only visit Uniqlo twice a year :P

I’m jealous of you people in NYC.

I can only visit Uniqlo twice a year :P

I never been to NYC but I want to visit someday or possibly work there.

Plato’s closet is really hit or miss. The one in our area mostly just has Forever21 tops and fake designer jeans.

What about Old Navy?

I live for that store.

I also want to wear leggings as pants. I’m not sure now since with the intense backlash on here LOL. And being that I’m a guy.

Old Navy is pretty bad IMO for guys clothing. Their shorts and jeans just seem excessively baggy. Plus almost all the shorts are cargo shorts. It’s not like I’m working at the docks here, lol.

Their shorts are too baggy for my liking. I do love their shirts though.

Urban Outfitters is too pricey and the American Apperal in my city closed down in January.

I like Old Navy when I’m strapped for cash. The poor man’s Gap.

And cargo shorts are the ****… so many pockets. So useful! Wallet in one, cell phone in another, cigarettes in another, and anything else I might need in another. Try doing that with normal shorts or pants ;)

I don’t need that many pockets since I carry a messenger bad/manbag/murse around.

To each his own.

One thing I love about going to college in NYC is that there’s so many places to shop! Before I came here, I used to hate shopping and malls in general. Actually I still don’t enjoy the shopping experience, but I like the variety here, and that Soho is a 5 min walk, even if it is ridiculously crowded with tourists and their giant bags.

I agree with the complaints about fit at H&M. I’m normally a size 4 (small) in shirts and at H&M I usually go up to a 6 or 8 and it fits snugly - their sizes are weird and the shirts are relatively short, and fit very tightly in the chest. I’m a 34B and often I have to get a size 8 just to squeeze my boobs in. I do like their clothes, but they have a lot of strange stuff as well which looks costume-ish almost.

I like shopping at places like the Limited, Express, Esprit, Free People, etc. For pricier brands like Lacoste, Vineyard Vines, J.Crew, I go to the outlets, where you can get a $80 top for $30 - and the quality is really good. People always complain those places are expensive but head to the outlets if you’re ever near one! : )

Don’t like the Gap because 90% of their clothes seem to be very plain basics, like plain button down white shirts, plain T’s in every color, khaki’s and jeans, etc. It’s good for basics but kind of boring. The kind of place a lot of moms shop; to each his own though like the kid above me said.

What not to wear around campus: leggings as pants especially if you’re on the chunkier side (it had to be said)

Nice, I like the Gap because all of their clothes are plain or discreetly patterned. I’m not a big fan of J Crew though, which is too preppy and expensive for my tastes. If I’m going to buy some clothes with a preppy vibe, I’m gonna go with LL Bean and Lands End.

The kid? I have a (user)name, Alix :P

and I’ve never ever called it ‘the’ Gap.

happycowlover: murses/manpurses should be on this list

DC do you work for gap? I haven’t been involved in the last 5 pages but im going to infer that you’ve made every other post about how economical and cool the gap is :P

Anyone here shop at Tommy Hilfiger? I’m into the preppy style of clothes so I shop there all the time. Anytime I go there I always buy a couple of shirts! And if you go to the company/factory store I think it’s called they always have great deals going on like buy one get one 50% off or selected shirts 40% off! It’s great stuff at really good prices. Surprisingly the store I go to never seems to be busy at all compared to the neighboring stores.

Aww sorry DC : )
I also suspect he is an inside marketing agent trying to lure the money out of innocent college kids’ pockets ; )

it’s hurricane dammit, but DC is fine too

and nah I don’t work for Gap, I just really like their clothes. It’s the same thing with Sprint… I praise them like they’re the second coming of Christ, but it’s not cos I work for them, I just think they’re great.

^ I have a lot of shirts pants and sweaters from Tommy Hilfiger.

Gap is too pricey.

I like my messenger bag. It’s comfy, as long as you don’t have too many books in them.

I’m the same with Free People, Alice + Olivia, TopShop and Marc Jacobs; I’m a hardcore–bow down and worship–devotee to all four. I think my wardrobe is like 90% combo of the above.

But IMO, the best part of living in NYC is the massive collection of eccentric vintage boutiques and general off-beat kind of quirky hole-in-the-wall stores.
There used to be this awesome thrift store called 17x17 in the heart of SoHo that sold these really unusual and unique finds. I used to love that store so much. It closed though. :(
