Correct- those degrees (acting, MT) at CMU would be BFA degrees, not BA degrees which is what the BXA program offers, as the OP stated they are interested in BA not BFA.
Thanks for clarifying!

In case anyone is still following this. I tentatively added William and Mary, Purdue, Maryland - College Park, Brandeis and Vanderbilt to the list. For Vanderbilt she would need to get a big scholarship of which there are a few and chances are extremely low.
Sadly decided we probably will remove some top contenders due to too many grey cloudy days (she doesn’t do well without a decent amount of sunshine) - UofWashington, Case Western, Pitt, Oberlin, Kenyon. Some of the colder cities are staying since they are sunnier despite the frigid temps. Others were removed for various reasons: University of Rochester, Univ of Richmond, Northeastern, University of Connecticut.
Thanks for keeping us updated. It’s fascinating. And early Who left may come back on. It happens
Actually - scratch that. Vanderbilt and Purdue (and WashU) removed from our list due to their state abortion laws. Bummer!
People - politics in politics thread, unless it’s directly related to the college in question and to something that the students specifically asked about
Is UTAH still on your list?
Is this what the list looks like now?
Added:
William & Mary
Maryland-College Park
Brandeis
Removed for weather:
U. of Washington
Case Western
Pitt
Oberlin
Kenyon
Removed for other reasons:
U. of Rochester
U. of Richmond
Northeastern
U. of Connecticut
Removed for state abortion laws:
Vanderbilt
Purdue
Wash U.
Others from that list have also been removed that I failed to mention in my earlier post: Loyola, San Diego State, Binghampton, Wooster, University of San Diego, Fordham (all due mostly to physics ranking being too low) and UNC (out-of-state scholarship too unlikely). I added a few that are above our ideal price range, but that we consider “worth it” given their overall attributes - UC Santa Barbara and UC Berkeley.
Is this right, now?
Removed for other reasons:
Loyola
San Diego State
Binghamton
Wooster
U. of San Diego
Fordham
UNC
Added:
UC-Santa Barbara
UC-Berkeley
ETA: U. of Arizona
Yes! Except, doh! I forgot to say we also finally added the University of Arizona.
Circling back on this - what are the particular issues with Hofstra that you feel make it a bad fit?
oof – it is looking like Arizona might end up making big changes to their merit aid. Without a huge discount, it will end up off our list. I’ll keep an eye on this for sure. 'Draconian cuts' coming, U of A President Robbins tells faculty
You don’t know what they’ll do - and they guarantee tuition for four years.
You’ll have to see.
They are big in STEM and fine arts - so they might both be spared as might discounting - or it might still be strong but not as strong.
Physics is one of their golden gooses - along with MIS and the arts.
It’s too soon to know.
Since this post we have added both Lafayette and St. Olaf to our list. Good suggestion!
Lafayette won’t likely get you to where you want to be price wise…but fine school.
I don’t remember OP parents income level. But if less than 200K could be no loan need based money at Lafayette College. If above that going to a 75k per year situation
From initial post - they bolded - not me:
we are only interested in schools that provide merit aid to bring down the retail price (we will not qualify for any aid) so that cuts out most of top schools. NYU or Northwestern are dream schools, but we aren’t willing to pay their retail price.
agreed, for Lafayette it would be contingent on a Marquis fellowship or scholarship.
