I’m in 9th grade right now. I don’t try at all in school, and I’m 3rd in my class of 356. I play tennis for varsity, I’m on science Olympiad, NJHS, and Student Council. I want to go to Vanderbilt for undergrad, and them medical school for grad. Is what I’m doing right now good enough for me to achieve that dream?
Sure. Besides good grades and ECs there’s not much that you should be doing in 9th grade, including worrying about college.
You’re doing fine. Enjoy being a ninth grader! There’s no reason to think about college so hard this much in advance. Just so you know though you will most likely have to start trying in school as you get older and your classes get harder.
You should be glad that school is easy. Take harder classes next year. Challenge yourself. Take a few AP’s if you haven’t already.
I wouldn’t focus on getting into a particular college. You have all of high school to get through right now- Who knows what you’re rank, grades, or interests will look like as a junior. Try to take classes that challenge you properly next year, and as you become an upperclassman, go for leadership positions in your EC’s. Worry about what college is right for you later, for all you know you may not even want to attend Vanderbilt a few years from now.
Maintain your high GPA and take the most challenging courses you can find. Outside of school, take ECs that interest you.
