Somewhere Only We Know is one of the most beautiful songs in the world to me. Personally meaningful. Not to sound morbid but it is one of two songs I would want at any celebration of life for me when I pass.
But that’s a whole other thread. ![]()

I ALAWYS tune out Small Town (John Mellencamp). Ok, I get it you did everything there.
I sing it as " I was BORED in a small town…"
It was written in 1972. Jim Croce died in a plane crash in 73 at the age of 30.
Number one hit with added meaning to the words.
“But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them..”
DH threatened our wedding band that they would be immediately ejected if they played “New York New York”
I generally like the Police, but I LOATHE Every Breath You take. So creepy!
I dislike New York, New York, but I think I despise My Way even more.
I will never not hear “The Rye or the Kaiser” when this song comes on.
I like New York, New York!
But dare I say it? I cannot stand any music by the Police. To me they just drone on and on.
Anything Wierd Al. I’m not 15 anymore.
Amazing Grace. Can’t stand it. Also anything by ABBA
My podiatrist plays nothing but a greatest hits of Frank Sinatra CD in his office, over and over. I want to jump out a window if I have to wait too long. I don’t know how his office staff survives it.
We just saw the Weird Al movie with my younger son and his wife. He loved Weird Al as a young teen. I heard the food album a lot because the CD lived in our car, but not so much that I got tired of it. I still find him clever.
I adore The Beatles, but absolutely cannot stand the songs Yesterday and Something - one note and I’m changing the station!
A great Christmas present would be if I never had to listen to Feliz Navidad.
I can take or leave a lot of Sting and The Police, but I LOVE Don’t Stand So Close to Me. Sting is not my type, but I thought that he was so hot in that video. And when it came out I wa a naive, 17yo college freshman. The song spoke to me! lol
Some of the songs mentioned were really early memory songs for me that I remember singing along to when I was 3, 4, 5 years old and some I still love! (shout out for Lovin’ You by Minnie Riperton that someone despised above! lol! Minnie wrote it ‘for’ her daughter Maya Rudolph which I didn’t know until just a few years ago). Anyway - so despised songs- basically anything by the Dave Mathews Band, I think anyway. I’ve only heard 1 or 2 1/2 songs and based on those I have to immediately change away from on SiriusXM. And I agree, songs of the 70s/80s were sometimes way overplayed on the radio and despite being decent songs, I can’t listen to some of them anymore.
I agree, his covers became boring after a while. But he also wrote some original songs.
“I’m stranded all alone in the gas station of love, and I have to use the self-service pump.”
lol
(from One More Minute – one of his original tunes)
I have never heard that line! Hilarious!
I find that song to be quite amusing. And, bonus, it’s not too terribly difficult to play on the guitar. (nor, I presume, the piano…)
Tom’s Diner by Suzanne Vega will have me immediately changing the station or skipping to the next song. It’s a visceral negative reaction.
