What song do you despise?

Can’t believe nobody mentioned “Having My Baby” by Paul Anka.

not sure i’ve ever heard of it or know it. But i’m not 70+

I laugh - many listed on here are on my spotify.

Talk about cringe songs…that one took the cake.

Listening now. It’s not a duel but a female prominent featured - at least the one I’m listening to. Never heard it. It’s an odd premise for a song but maybe back then it wasn’t.

You could have swept it from your life but you didn’t do it…..yeah, that’s a crazy lyric.

You might know it - but you (and blossom) seem to know everything - so that doesn’t surprise me. You all should go on jeopardy.

When it was new “back then” it was an odd premise for a song.

I assure you that many of us thought it was bi-zarre back in the day!

I’m guess it was back then too

Except Maya Rudolph’s mother. But now I know. If only that were a Jeopardy clue.

In the mid 70s, there was a top-40 format FM station in Boston. Every week listeners could vote a song off the playlist, and the station would never play it again. Having My Baby was the only song to be voted out in its debut week on the station. What a lovely way of saying how much they hated it.

I agree with @Singswimsew that despised songs fall into two categories: One, songs that have a personal bad memory or became overplayed for you, and Two, songs that you just have hated from the first time you heard them.

I am most interested in songs that fall into the latter category.

For me:

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Most everything by The Doors
A lot of Neil Young
We Built This City by Starship
White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane
Try That in a Small Town by Jason Andean
Give It Away by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Believe by Cher

I Shot the Sheriff, but I Did not Shoot the Deputy. Just a miserable song!

You’re discounting how fun that was to sing at a party!

Julian Lennon’s “Sitting on a Pebble by the River”

Sitting on a boulder? Yes

Sitting on a rock? Ok

Sitting on a pebble? Ridiculous

Heard Cindi Lauper’s “girl’s just wanna have fun” on the way home. So tired of that song.

Another one for me is Horse With No Name (America) – I keep thinking why are you going in a desert (even a metaphorical one) with that poor horse. Maybe I’m just too literal LOL.

Minnie Riperton!!

(I haven’t looked upthread so I gather someone else already noted that)

So while we digressed to famous people with famous mothers, I was surprised some didn’t know that Gwyneth Paltrow’s mother is Blythe Danner.

Back to your regularly scheduled cringe-worthy songs. Please add, if no one has “I got a pair of brand new roller skates”. Just ugh.

Well…if we are talking Disney…how come no one has mentioned It’s A Small World. Hearing that over and over and over while on that ride at Disney was horrible. We knew some people who got stuck on that ride for a couple of hours, and had to endure that horrible song until they were removed.

My college suitemate played Sheriff on a loop for about a week at high volume not even a party would tempt me to ever play it for pleasure .
