Okay lets say my junior and senior gpa stay in the in range 4.3 and I get a score of 2000-2200 on my sats. What would be my chance of getting in.

Thanks

I would be shocked if you, a black applicant with a 2000+ on the SAT, did not get in.

Just wondering what did you get on your sats.

1550 (m+v). The average at UVA for instaters is in the high 1200’s and the average for black students is in the low 1100’s, I believe.

This is coming an instate black student who got in with a 1900 on his SAT (1310 old scale w/ 590 W) and a 3.9 HS GPA. You’re in, kid.

Yea, the GPA looks a little low, but as long as he’s top 20% he should be competitive.

URMs have it easy.

Woah, I thought the GPA was 4.3. That’s what I get for skimming.

However, we don’t have it easy when we are in the University, Untitled. Aside from the academics, we have other issues that plague us. I won’t go into details right now since you would already know what has happened this past year.

Yea, that’s another can of worms not worth debating.

My D will be applying this fall OOS (Texas). She is an URM (Hispanic). I’m not looking to stir up a debate, but wonder if one could summarize what “what happened this past year” It won’t stop her from applying, but knowing more is better than knowing less. (Or possibly refer me to a link with more info)
Thanks

A few racial incidents involving white townies or students making comments to black students. It got overblown by the campus media and the PC mafia. The expected reaction for a typical college campus. I wouldn’t worry about it in applying.

while i don’t know this incident off the top of my head, i’m sure its one of many stupid race related issues that happen at UVa. there is generally 1 a year that is made pretty public. was last year the poop on the girls car incident?

That was two years ago. It may be typical but it just stings when it actually happens to you and your friends. Seriously, those acts last August all happened to my friends. I just got threathened by a drunk racist on Rugby. Now that’s how you start your first year!

It’s only racist if a white person does it to a black person…

I am not going to start something here, but when you are accused of “stealing white men’s land” and “painting coon colors (red and gold) on Beta Bridge” before asked if “you would like it if he would choke you” you can think that is racism. Also, he did not only talked to me but the stragglers of my group who were white and asked them if they support “coons.” I understand that many people pull the unneccessary race card, but this was not the case. Thank you very much.

Of course it’s racism, but it is in no way representative of my university and it is no way representative of day-to-day life.

Wow…dose anyone know how the LGBT community is treated there. This is sort of big one for me.

That I can concede to. I just like to point out that it is prevalent and an problem. I was not making it seem like the Klan has daily cross burnings in front of Tuttle.

Oh well, It’s not like URMs get special treatment in class. We all have the same assignments with the same due date with the same grading scale. The only ones who give preferential treatment in that sense are those who have relationships with their professors.

Toboe, the LGBT community is treated pretty well. The worst I have heard and read is just an ignorant soul saying slurs like “■■■” but nothing physically threatening.

Definitely, UVAMalex. I believe untilted’s original comment was in reference solely to the admissions process, anyway.

I knew that but admisson and retention are two different things. That was what I was vaguely conveying.
