Yum!!
Now I know what to do with my leftover cherry tomatoes that are still hanging on the tomato plants on the deck.

I don’t see a “Whatcha Cookin’ for Thanksgiving” thread, so I thought I’d post this recipe for Crispy Caramelized Sweet Potatoes here as I immediately thought of CC when I saw it. I don’t care for sweet potatoes so I won’t be trying it, but the presentation is eye-catching and would dress up the T-day meal while probably eliciting a few oohs and ahhs from diners.
The presentation looks like a sweet potato version of Potatoes Anna!! I don’t like sweet potatoes, but I have several family members who would love this.
Thank you! I have no idea where I’m going for Thanksgiving but this looks like the dish I will bring.
Yes! Or hasselback potatoes…
I would like someone to make the crispy sweet potatoes FOR me - I don’t think I have the patience to do it myself!
You need a mandolin for slicing, which makes it a bit easier to do this recipe.
Anyone have a great (and easy!) recipe for apple kugel?
What? There are people who don’t own a mandoline?
Stop what you’re doing right now and remedy this oversight!
I use the single blade side of a box grater.
That works, so you’re excused.
Anyone have a clam chowder recipe they love? Nothing super thick. I have some fresh frozen clams from the summer to use up.
We do all our Thanksgiving cooking and baking on Wednesday. It’s a team effort (me, DH, S, and my mom) in the kitchen that we treat like a party. Earlier in the day, I make a pot of clam chowder for the cooks to enjoy while they make their recipes so we don’t have to take any formal meal breaks. Here’s the recipe (but I add in about a half-cup of bacon crumbles):
Woodman’s (of Essex, MA) Clam Chowder
2 cups water
1 potato cubed
1/4 cup minced onion
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground pepper
2 cups minced clams w/juice
1 cup cream (heavy, if you like it thicker)
2 tbsp butter
Combine first 5 ingredients and bring to boil. Simmer 10 minutes until potato is tender. Add clams, return to boil, stir occasionally. Remove from heat and let stand 10 minutes. Stir in cream and butter, and stir constant until thoroughly heated.
Makes 4 servings
This sounds delicious and simple! Sorry not an east coaster…do you just use the canned minced clams??? The bacon crumbles is interesting!
Yes, I use canned clams with their juice. I would prefer fresh, like @taverngirl, but those are hard to come by in AZ. I’m sure her chowder will be superior whichever recipe she uses.
This year will be an anomaly for us as it will be just me and DH in the small cabin kitchen, no cooking party as S/DIL will arrive late Wednesday afternoon.
Woodman’s! Thank you! This looks simple and delicious!
Oh that chowder recipe looks good. I can’t eat clams anymore - I had one bad clam about ten years ago and now I seem to react to them. I might try to make the same recipe with salmon?
I miss clams!
Made your chowder tonight. It was delicious! I added some celery and threw in a bay leaf and some fresh thyme.
Did you add the bacon??
Make fish chowder instead with a firm white fish like cod or haddock.
I did not, but I’m sure it would be great.
