Whatcha Doin New Years....New Years Eve....!

Dinner with friends. From our house, we can see an edge of the fireworks from downtown and the taller shoots from down by the water, and hear others. But it’ll be bitter cold. Already is.

A little good news for some of us in the NE. Look at the Jan and Feb weather forecasts. If theyre right, winter will get much easier by mid Jan.

For the past several years, we have planned a vacation after Christmas in order to be away for NYE. This year we are in London and loving it!!! Visiting a couple museums during the day then having dinner at an Indian restaurant this evening. Prefect day for us!

From News 12, Long Island

“TONIGHT: Happy New Year’s Eve! Temperatures will be extremely cold with NW winds at 10-20 mph. Record lows are possible as temperatures drop to near 8 degrees. Wind chills will be dangerously cold between 0 and -10. Frost bite is possible within 30 minutes on exposed skin. Temperatures around midnight for the New Year will be near 10.”

That’s pretty much the forecast for Times Square.

^^^Yikes!

We’re single digits here too so polar plunges and outdoor activities have been cancelled in many places. Today, I’ll de-Xmas the house while I watch the Patriots spank the Jets. D has a friend arriving from northern Maine tomorrow for a short visit who is highly allergic to Christmas trees? I’ve been asked to clean thoroughly so there’s isn’t any allergy issues while she visits.

Then I’m off for a 7 pm dinner with other single girlfriends. Maybe an after dinner drink closer to home and my bet is I’m sound asleep before 11 pm lol. D is a bridesmaid at her older sister’s wedding tonight so is having a busy day today with hair and nails and pictures. Its going to be quite the affair. My S and his SO attend a party each year that a group of peers put together at the same venue each year in Baltimore. Apparently his girlfriend’s college friends started the tradition years ago, they have it catered and a bar set up.

Tomorrow is a day of rest. Probably binge watch something until D gets home and her friend arrives. Mexican meatloaf and winter squash is on the menu, but they’ll most likely head out somewhere I’m sure. I’m looking forward to a relaxing day. I’ve had a very stressful few weeks and really need a bit of down time.

Most of the outdoor first night activities in Boston are cancelled due to the extreme cold. The indoor ones will continue - wonder if they will be packed (since nobody wants to be outside) or empty (since nobody wants to leave their house in this cold?)

Between the freezing drizzle and a sprained ankle, our NYE will consist of new books by the fire and a bottle of bubbly…well before midnight. I just checked and we do have a can of black-eyed peas for tomorrow, so we are set. Our son lives across town and he and fiancée would usually come over for New Years dinner, but we cancelled when I hurt my ankle. Not the most exciting NYE!

The usual – sitting around the kitchen table with family. Trying to finish a jigsaw puzzle by midnight. Snacks, board games, old movies, watching NYC ball drop on TV. Champagne toast at midnight.
D’s boyfriend is visiting, so it will be a little different this year. (Tbh, I was imagining a marriage proposal might happen this weekend, but that doesn’t quite seem to be in the works yet…)

Will brave the frigid temps and go to friends’ dinner & celebration… I made dessert… could have been prettier, so I’m hoping by dessert folks will be so liquered up they won’t notice the somewhat lopsided chocolate tart

If I still feel up to it, I’ll be doing a race at midnight. Supposed to be 11 degrees. I’m
Hoping the night sweats that plague me kick in right around then

@katliamom Sounds yummy to me and makes gives it the artisanal look but I’ve learned through experience that whipped cream can cover a lot of cosmetic defects.

Watching Twilight Zone marathon and keeping an eye on the ball.

^^^Also watching the Twilight Zone marathon. About to make fondue. S1 is working; it’s just DH and me.

Kids are out with friends. DH and I had planned a Netflix binge (final season of Ripper Street) with beer and good snacks; but he came down with some kind of stomach bug this morning and headed to bed around 9:30.

Then luckily, while switching among the NYE shows, I came across the first Austin Powers movie! The dog and I are heartily enjoying it despite the commercials and the overall inanity of the movie (“Who does Number Two work for?”) Yes, I could probably find it on Netflix, but that wouldn’t seem so serendipitous, plus I get the chance to catch up on CC during the numerous breaks.

Happy 2018 to you and yours!

Silly, but re watching the last of the HP movies. I like the hope

We watched Beauty and the Beast, and now it’s snowing! Twice so far this year in Texas is ridiculous.

9:36pm here and I can barely stay awake. I admire all of you who can go out and stay up!

Went out to the movies for first time in about 3 yrs and saw Lady Bird. Then our close friends brought over a bunch of good sushi and we tried our hardest to stay up until at least 9

Made it home from a friend’s. My lemon tart was awful, but the home made truffles were excellent.

I loathe going out and being fearful of drunk drivers. We, the parental units are home, kids are in their homes…I made prime rib. Tomorrow I will grab any kid who’s nterestred a shop and walk…and eat leftovers.

One more hour to go! Steam oven performed. Boiler has not exploded yet. Mr. B is still awake. Guests are fed and happy.
