Whatever happened to "tight?"

Whatever happened to the adjective/slang “Tight”? I never hear people use it anymore.

i ate it duh

(I’m not joking about this one)

Well, basically what happened was there was famous white woman (her name is escaping me at the moment) who started using the word “tight”. Up until then, african americans were the only ones using the word (I guess they liked tight clothing while working at plantations or something, I dunno). Anyway, once this woman started using it, pretty much every black person stopped, in fear of racism and such.

In the past 10-25 years, racism has been radically reduced, meaning that black people now feel more inclined to express themselves in their culture. Since there is some odd reason why black people like the term, they started using it freely, in such phrases as

“That’s tight, dawg.” or “Das tight”

Now, I am assuming that you live in a generally white community, because this phenomenon has actually caused the white men to stop using the term as much, since they do not want to come up as wanna-be gangster black men.

And that is what has happened with this word.

Pretty TIGHT history lesson, huh? :P

I don’t live in a generally white community. In fact, I live in one of the most diverse areas of the country.

unless it is like 60% black, you probably won’t see this (maybe more)

sorry about “white community”, just a nonblack dominant community.

The guys at your area who are not black might just not want to look like gangsters, and maybe the black ones just never thought to use the word and just used traditional white man words.

Lol, I’ve definitely seen numerous instances in which this was not true.

People say “we’re really tight” still. As in, “we’re really good friends”.

oh wow, Balitmore has over 60% black.

I guess they are taking part in a national situation.

“Lol, I’ve definitely seen numerous instances in which this was not true.”

I know, but these are just Eminem situations that make the person look pretty tupid usually.

Really? I still hear people say, damn that’s tight, at school and etc.

einnob:
I never hear it used that way anymore. Must be a Left Coast thing.

However, I do hear people use it in the way fairy_dreams was talking about. But I was originally talking about “Thats tight, etc.”

People at my school say, “That’s legit,” now. I haven’t heard tight in a long time.

legit has been around since the 80s though.

“Must be a Left Coast thing.”

don’t forget about the midwest and south, where throwing out connotative curse words in with many of their phrases, even if it doesn’t sound great.

I hear it all the time.

“DAAAAAAAMN, YOU TIIIIIIGHT.”

I hear this a lot in New York.

People around here just say “intense” a lot.

I sometimes use it still. I use intense and legit more though. :D

baltimorn, are you hatersunite?

No. I swear.
