What's so important about being valedictorian.

10charizardz

It’s not really important. People are just stat crazy here.

personal pride, also, class rank is relatively important in applying to colleges

It’s been my dream to become valedictorian, since I was ten. I think its so important to be valedictorian because it represents accomplishment and victory, after four horrible years of high school

are you aware that your post count is 69?

In my state, you get free tuition to any in-state public for being valedictorian. I know this one kid from a nearby school who was ranked #1 for 3.5 years, and only applied our state flagship, expecting to get free tuition. His ranked dropped to #2 in the last semester, didn’t get anything.

@Klinks05,
Never post again except on HSL where your posts don’t add to your post count. That is brilliant.

You get to make a speech!

Lol nothing at all

It is not important. Three important things in high school: (1) learn how to drive, (2) seek new experiences, and (3) develop a sound sense of analytical thinking.

3 will lead to success in college admissions, college, and beyond

1) You get to make a speech
2) You may get a medal (this varies by school)
3) You sit on the stage, as opposed to the auditorium (this also varies by school)
4) You get a warm and fuzzy feeling inside (or your parents do)

You get the ladies.

^ haha, valedictorians get the ladies haha

i can assure you that grades do not get you ladies. not even going to harvard or another ivy will get you ladies by itself. however, these things may eventually lead to making substantial amounts of money, which will definitely get you ladies by itself(but it’s a bit of a long way down the road)

at my country school val has almost NOTHING to do with class rank. but oh well such is life in my part of the world

The valedictorian at my school (well currently right now) gets loads of girls.

He’s a nerd with bulking muscles.

rofl I didn’t even know what vally meant until my junior year of highschool.
i’m obv not val of my class
lulz

I feel like the importance of being valedictorian really varies between different high schools. In some schools with large classes, simply being near the top of the class is impressive, as opposed to fighting for minute decimal points. On the other hand, as others have mentioned, some colleges definitely have perks for valedictorians in terms of scholarships.

At most schools, you get recognition for hard work.

Do your schools use unweighted or weighted GPA for vally? It seems like weighted makes more sense, since somebody could take “slacker” classes, ace them, and have a 4.0 all through school. I don’t get how they could have an UW vally, with too many kids having 4.0s.

At my school, everyone with a 4.65+ indexed GPA is a valedictorian. As a rising senior, I currently have a 4.60, so unless I decide to fail all of my classes senior year (which I don’t think I will?), I’m gonna be valedictorian.

In response to what you guys are saying about how you can “get girls” by being valedictorian: Since I’m female, it’s pretty much the opposite. Some guys get intimidated, which is kinda unfortunate. Then again, it weeds out the cowards, I suppose.
