My daughter and I checked the numbers several times already. Nothing is transposed. It was literally populated by their drop down menu. Also, FASFA said they would send out e-mail communications when things were processed, when corrections would be accessible, etc., etc., but so far, no communications. I’ve spoken to them several times online, and this was what I was told. Since we’re not getting emails, I just need to know where to find the reprocessing timeline or what the timeline is, so I can check to make sure our application was indeed part of the reprocessing. So far, I found an article that says reprocessing will be from April 15th to May 1st, but no information on who is being reprocessed.
Your child should keep looking at their FAFSA on a regular basis to see if it is open for updates and corrections. If they can access it to make corrections or updates, it has been processed. Any emails will come only to the student, who should double check their spam folder.
Adding: I see that you are the parent whose child’s FAFSA had incorrect school codes. Check the school codes now against this list: 2024–25 Federal School Code List of Participating Schools (February 2024) | Knowledge Center. If they match the list, your child’s school codes were updated already (when the FAFSA was processed).
She’s not getting any emails. Her application is open for corrections. But there is nothing to correct. She has an error message stating one of her schools is not FASFA eligible, but all the codes are correct. FASFA doesn’t know why we have that message and told us to reach out to all the schools. We only reached out to UMD, but they can’t confirm receipt until May 1st at the latest. We didn’t contact GMU, they just happened to send a batch email stating that our FASFA was one of the ones being reprocessed. So it sounds like I’m supposed to just wait and hope the error message goes away by May 1st. I’ll contact FASFA again tomorrow and see if thet know anything about this reprocessing. They knew nothing about it last week.
Adding: checking against the new list.
The reprocessing is due to a separate issue - there were some mistakes on FSA’s part that required some FAFSAs to be reprocessed.
Do you know the date you submitted the FAFSA?
Form was received 1/2/24 and processed 3/15/24. All the school codes are correct. But it’s strange. I just noticed the form says 9 out of 20 schools are selected, but the list of schools is only showing 8 schools. We only applied for 8 schools. So I don’t know what this 9th mystery school is. I’m just going to check with UMD at the end of the month to see if they’ve received the FASFA. If the error message is just warning about the 9th mystery school, then it doesn’t really matter.
I’m guessing that the 9th school is actually an incorrect school code that was in the FAFSA system when you applied. It was chosen as #8, but it was replaced by the correct code between the time you submitted & the time it was processed. So this bad code that was replaced is probably the phantom #9. According to this Issue Alert, incorrect school codes were in the drop down for FAFSAs submitted prior to 1/6. It also indicates that it was fixed by the processor. If the school codes you currently see listed are correct according to the school code list, it appears that you are good.
FEDERAL SCHOOL CODES FOR INACTIVE SCHOOLS OR LOCATIONS PRESENTED TO STUDENTS ON FAFSA FORM PRIOR TO JAN. 6, 2024 (Resolved March 8, 2024)
Status: Resolved
Previous Description: From the start of the soft launch period through Jan. 5, 2024, some students who searched from the 2024-25 FAFSA form for a school to enter on the FAFSA were presented with a Federal School Code associated with that school that had previously been deactivated. There was no way for the student to know that a deactivated Federal School Code had been selected, and the student submitted the 2024-25 FAFSA with the deactivated Federal School Code. On Jan. 6, 2024, we implemented a fix to prevent deactivated Federal School Codes from being presented to students on the 2024-25 FAFSA from that date forward.
Previous Workaround: There is no workaround for a student who submitted a 2024-25 FAFSA prior to Jan. 6, 2024 and included one or more deactivated Federal School Codes; however, the issue will be resolved with transmission of the student’s 2024-25 FAFSA results to schools and re-notification to the student.
In many cases, a deactivated Federal School Code will cross-reference to the correct Federal School Code within the system and will be sent automatically in the Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) to a school’s active Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) mailbox. If there is no cross-reference to the correct Federal School Code within the system, the Federal School Code will be set to all zeroes and the student will be instructed in the subsequent FAFSA Submission Summary to update the student’s 2024-25 FAFSA via the FAFSA Corrections process.
Kelsmom again:. It seems that the notification process may not be working quite as planned (big surprise this year, eh). If indeed a school code was set to all zeros, you aren’t seeing it. They can instruct you to fix it, but it’s not there. I’m guessing the system is goofed up. If all school codes for all schools you want are there and are correct, I think that it’s safe to assume all is well. It’s good to follow up with the schools, but I don’t think you need to worry.
The email might have gone to your child. The FAFSA is there’s. Mine got emails last week saying to check the website for changes. I checked and found that they were processed.
I’m sure you didn’t mean to respond to me. I haven’t completed a FAFSA for a long time!
Thank you for finding this! This must be what’s happening. Our 8 schools are coded properly, so the system must have generated a zero school code and created the notification during the cross-referencing process. I’ll just check with UMD at the end of the month. Disappointed that FASFA couldn’t explain this or point me to this. Thanks again.
There are four new known issues that were just added. All students should watch for the first one when making corrections - if making a correction, be sure to check the in asset field prior to submitting (tip: look at it before making a correction elsewhere in the FAFSA, then look again after making the correction):
STUDENT ASSETS ARE INCORRECTLY REMOVED WHEN COMPLETING A CORRECTION (Added April 12, 2024; Workaround)
Status: Open
Description: In some cases, when an applicant is completing a correction, the values the student previously entered into the student assets fields (e.g., total of cash, savings, and checking accounts) are removed from the correction and the student is asked to re-submit.
Workaround: The student should re-enter the values in the student assets fields.
Kelsmom again: The other three issues will likely affect fewer students. In the first, an applicant starts to make a correction - after making the correction (but before submitting), they can no longer view their FAFSA. It exists, but they can’t see it. There is no current fix for this, unfortunately.
In another issue, a contributor corrects or needs to reenter the values in their assets, but the FAFSA form does not save them. If the assets are required, contributors are not able to proceed. There is no current fix for this.
In the last issue, in a small number of cases, if a user manually entered their tax information, the user may not be able to successfully submit a correction. There is no current fix for this.

Hello - I wanted to provide an update to the College Confidential community that has helped me through this FAFSA FIASCO.
01/02/2024 Student completed his part => to me as parent contributor
01/03/2024 Parent contributor submitted form
03/18/2024 Found out student had not “signed” so frozen
04/13/2024 Student signed form and then resubmitted to me as parent contributor to sign
04/13/2024 Weirdly there was this flag (see screenshot below) re: spouse even though we are married filing jointly and this flag did not come up in January
04/15/2024 Spouse had to create FAFSA ID this time.
04/17/2024 Flag remained. Looked into spouse’s FAFSA ID profile to make sure information there exactly matches per the screenshot. Saw that FAFSA populated a really old address from 15-19 years ago. Once updated address, the flag no longer existed in my FAFSA account and I was able to jump to Parent Contributor signature.
Posting here in case anyone else has this issue.
Thanking everyone especially @kelsmom for their help during this trying process.
Whew - finally! I’m glad that your issues were finally resolved. Addresses are often an issue, as well as email addresses (e.g., student and parent have to have different email addresses). So glad you finally figured it out & were able to successfully submit.
We are all done. Thank you to this forum for all the help and insight provided. I’m praying for everyone to get through this process quickly in the upcoming weeks. I know it has been incredibly nerve wrecking this year. Thankful for this community.
Just got an email from one of our schools saying they’ve received S24’s FAFSA but due to a “known nationwide issue” his income information must be reprocessed by the DoEd. Meanwhile we have received a couple of FA awards that definitely use FAFSA, including his top choice.
Should we assume that once an award package has been sent, it’s basically complete? Or would those schools also need to update based on re-processed info?
Top choice school has not moved decision deadline but we are still waiting for 2nd choice offer to compare. SO frustrating, I feel bad for these kids trying to make such huge decisions without all the info available.
You should not assume that an award is final unless it states that it is final (and even then, new information could cause it to change). The thing about the reprocessing issue is that it might not necessarily result in changes to aid. If you want to be certain, call each school to inquire.
Thanks as always @kelsmom!
Same here… only one school (U San Francisco) said FAFSA being reprocessed. The rest of schools have sent us our financial aid packet with no mention of re processing.
So I just logged on to FAFSA and it says my son’s FAFSA is completed. But…I don’t see any links where I can view the report.
Any help?
You won’t be able to see it using your login. Only his login will allow viewing.
Thanks.
