What's Your FAFSA Status?

Every day this conversation pops to the top, I check my status. It is still being processed. Frustrating since some money would make more schools feasible for us. Just ridiculous they can’t get this right in any reasonable time frame.

DS24 had to recreate his login but it says “In process” now. There is also a note about identity verification.

He got to this stage last month but then had to recreate the login.

Does your child have an SSN?

If so, I wonder if this is helpful: Federal Student Aid

I suppose you realized at some point that only one parent needs to create a FAFSA account (assuming married and filing jointly)

From today’s Federal Student Aid Electronic Announcement, things are slowly moving forward. Here is information contained in the announcement regarding student FAFSAs:

*** Status of 2024-25 FAFSA Applications***

As we begin to transmit larger batches of ISIRs, we understand many students will want to know the status of their FAFSA form. Applicants may check the status of their 2024–25 FAFSA form on StudentAid.gov. To check the status, applicants should do the following:

  1. Log in using their account username and password (FSAID).

  2. Navigate to their account Dashboard.

  3. Select “2024-25 FAFSA Form” from the “My Activity” page. The application status will be one of the following:

Draft: Your section of the FAFSA form is incomplete.

My note: If this is your current status, please post. I will try to help you troubleshoot.

In Progress: You provided your consent, approval, and signature to your section of the FAFSA form, but the FAFSA form has not been submitted yet.

My note: If this is your current status, please post. I will try to help you troubleshoot.

In Review: You have submitted your form and your application is still processing.

My note: This status will change once the FAFSA processing is underway.

Processed: Your application was processed successfully. No further action is needed.

My note: If this is your status and you want to add schools, you will be able to do that soon.

Action Required: Your application requires further action from you or your contributor(s). In some cases, you may need to contact your college or career/trade school to resolve the issue.

My note: You should receive a communication that explains the further action required.

Closed: Your FAFSA form was never submitted and can no longer be submitted because the federal FAFSA deadline passed.

My note: No one will see a Closed status at this point in the financial aid award year.

We submitted on 1/6/24. It’s still “in review”.

Submitted 1/14, “in review” as of tonight.

We both created FAFSA accounts in February.

DS has now created his account twice using his personal information.

It now says “In Review” which is what it said in February when we did this the first time.

This really is a mess.

Only one parent needs to create a FAFSA account if the student’s parents are married to each other and filed taxes jointly.
Every student’s account says “in review” until it is processed which should be in the next few weeks or so. I believe some that were filed in December have been processed but it will take a while for sure.

Yes, I believe that In Review and Processed are the two statuses that people will see now. Both are “valid,” in that they mean that everything you can do right now has been done. Changes may be necessary once processing is complete, but these two statuses mean that all is well for now.

What does this mean?? What deadline has passed for a 2024-2025 FAFSA (I thought that deadline was near the end of the 2024-2025 academic year…)

That’s actually a note that would be used in July 2025, if the student had not completed the FAFSA before the federal financial aid year deadline. I assume it is for a FAFSA that was started prior the June 30, 2025 deadline but not submitted by the deadline.

So really…anyone doing a 2024-2025 FAFSA should not be seeing that note…now?

No one should see it. I probably could have deleted it from the announcement for purposes of this thread.

Our FAFSAs just switched to processed. SAI is about half what it was reported to be at the January estimate.

My FAFSA was submitted on 1/2/24 and just processed today. When does it actually get sent to schools? Also my SAI is 3630 lower than the original number.

Just checked and ours is now processed - it has been in review since 1/2. Our SAI is a bit lower than the estimates.
(FWIW it made me re-verify my contact info again after a few weeks of NOT making me do it!)
ETA: still can’t add a school, the one that she added had their own FA form, though, so if she gets in I am hopeful they can provide a good faith estimate while we wait to be able to add it.
ETA2 - D24 didn’t get an email (apparently), nor did I, I just signed in to my account on a whim and saw that it had moved to processed.

1/14 submitted, still in review…sigh.

What was your date submitted? I submitted mine on January 3rd, and it seems that they are trickling out in order

1/2! Will edit my post.
