My ex introduced me to this concept a few months ago. What’s the one song that most embodies your values, goals, or personality?

Mine is [Marche Slave](<a href=“http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oy-bDe6PBp0]Marche ”>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oy-bDe6PBp0 ) by Tchaikovsky, but it used to be [the overture to The Magic Flute](<a href=“http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IR8GFUTMP_E]the ”>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IR8GFUTMP_E ). It’s the story of the downtrodden rising up against their oppressors and becoming a glorious nation. It tells my story - how I rose from an instrument of the system to a warrior of a cause worth fighting for. At this point in my life, I’m at 8:36.

My ex has been through a lot of hardship. His (very appropriate) theme song is [“I Can Go The Distance”](<a href=“http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6v_gOmVJ4I]"I ”>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6v_gOmVJ4I ) from the movie Hercules. He knows that whatever happens to him, he will be strong.

What’s your theme song, and why?

My president is black - young jeezy ft nas

Nothing better than that, except for whatever you like (obama spoof) — search for the vid on youtube, its too good

Umm, definitely The Final Countdown - Europe. Yep.

That song plays every time I step out of a vehicle.

I love Marche Slave.

How does one go about picking a theme song? I was going to name one, but then I decided that my potential choices weren’t really that fitting.

I guess you just listen to a bunch of music until you find a piece that really resonates with you? I dunno. To be honest, Marche Slave doesn’t really fit me that well either.

Edit: You know what? I just thought of a better one

I find it hard to believe that any individual’s very essence could be fully embodied in just one song.

Not even a thousand theme songs could collectively embody my values, goals, or personality.

If all functions can be approximated by a sequence of polynomials, I bet all personalities can be arbitrarily approximated by a sequence of theme songs :D

…or not.

Srsly though, sometime during this past week, I realized I’ve come to a post-art stage in my life. I still listen to music, but with a different understanding of my relation to that music.

simply the best- tina turner

The Middle - Jimmy Eat World

The problem is, the song refers to a girl…
