The sharks haven’t shown any heart in the last three games, I seriously hope they wake up!!

So sorry to hear about your dog, sabaray!

Thank you, scout. I really, really appreciate that. You have no idea how much.

Next one’s in our barn, Wings fans. Perhaps the Sharks will wake up. And it’s a fact that the calls tend to go the home team’s way, not that it’ll make any difference if the Sharks still can’t score on the power play.

Sabaray, I’m so sorry about your dog. You must miss him very much.

Yep, I sure do miss him. Vet visit last Tuesday for what we thought were just symptoms of aging turned out to be extremely advanced lymphoma that had literally just become apparent in the last month. Tried some palliative measures but I firmly believe you owe it your animal friends to spare them misery, not put them out of misery. Anyway, this is a hockey thread.

CF, I have a Canadian friend from Vancouver. I had to laugh that he “liked” my facebook status celebrating the Wings win last night. I think he figures the Canucks will have a better chance beating the Wings than the Sharks. This has been a tough series. Still have to believe that a miracle is possible and the Wings will advance.

Sabaray, so sorry to hear about your dog. It’s so difficult to lose them but I agree with you that it is wonderful to be able to spare them misery. One of my 4 is an oldie and I can see her slowing down. Dreading the day when it’s time for that final decision for her. I’ve been through it too many times over the years. {hugs} to you.

I won’t mention tomorrow night’s game because as you can see from what I posted earlier, I’m apparently the kiss of death to any team I cheer for! :)

If the Sharks had lost tonight, I can’t imagine how awful it would have been. The Sharks and their fans would have been the butt of every joke for the next twenty years. Horrible. The Wings, well, everyone knows how good the Wings are. Lidstrom, incredible. Datsyuk, astounding. So nobody will be criticizing the Wings.

I hope I didn’t wake up the neighbors with my screaming. You may now come out of the closet, alwaysamom.

– Fang, who bleeds teal

Good game, CF. Congrats to the Sharks. Well deserved.

Cardinal Fang, exiting the closet here!
You know what, I had an event I had to attend last night so I was unable to watch the game. Lucky for the Sharks. Congratulations!

You missed a good game, alwaysamom.

Yes, I heard it was a great game. I’m happy for the Sharks and their fans. Trust me, I know what it’s like to be the butt of jokes. I live in Toronto!

Did Heatley play well? He took a lot of abuse about his play in this series by the panel and former players on the TSN broadcast a few nights ago.

Husband’s a Buffalo native. We lived there during the Super Bowl debacles. You have my sympathies on the sports front, but Toronto is a great place to visit!

I thought Heatley, not a favorite of mine, played well. I thought all the Sharks played well, in fact, though Murray made a few mistakes that, luckily, didn’t hurt them. And yet, they barely got past the Wings. That was a series played at a high level.

My favorite moment of the game, a heartwarming and inspirational moment, was when Dan Boyle checked Holmstrom into the goalpost during a Wings power play.

And now for the Canucks.

I’m one of those Sharks fans that seems to be the kiss of death whenever I see them play on tv. It needs to be live, there, in the stands, or on tivo. The other night I had my back to the tv in the bar at my club watching everyone else cheer the guys on for the last minute of play.

I’m glad Paddy finally scored in the playoffs. He seemed to be very determined in both series, just not effective. I’m hoping he has the monkey off his back now.

Sidenote: I’m dating a guy who is not a hockey fan. Took him to one of the playoff games as D2 could not get off work. Our (occasional) seats are on the glass, and he didn’t realize the wall moves when they check right in front of you. He screamed like a girl. It was pretty funny.

You have tickets ON THE GLASS? Can I be your best friend?

One time Fang Jr and I got to use a neighbor’s tickets in row 4. It was the game when the Sharks finally beat the Bruins for the first time. There was a fight right in front of us, and I think a Marco Sturm goal right in front of us too.

Some of my online friends who were actually at Game 7 couldn’t bear to watch. I watched, but I paced.

Yes, they are amazing seats, 3 down from the Shark’s bench. We share them with three other groups. From there, the players are HUGE and fast. But the absolute best is when they check into the boards in front of you. You feel like you are part of the game.

My daughter is a bigger hockey fan than I, and is my primary hockey date. I’m thinking this is why she’s interested in college in Canada.

Smart girl on both counts!

Anyone watch last night’s game? I have to admit that I didn’t expect that result, going into the game. Claude Julien is going to have to get a few of his players to exhibit some self-control if he hopes to beat Tampa Bay. Too many stupid penalties, and this team of officials is clearly going to be calling every little thing. Add that to the antics of Horton and Lucic, not to mention Marchand, and it was evident that the team was totally out of control by the end of the game.

Soon I will be hating all things Canucks, including their fans, who are the Canadian version of Wings fans, but before that I have to admit I love the Green Men and the Hockey Lovin’ Homos.

Green Men:

Hockey Lovin’ Homos (who are, in fact, two gay guys with a great sense of humor):

A few seasons back I was at a game in the midst of the season when we were not playing the Canucks and there was a very nice young man sitting next to me. He was in SJ on a business trip, but was from Vancouver, and came to the game, by himself, just to see if what they said about the Shark Tank was true.

He’d heard the SJ fans were knowledgable, which was unfathomable to a Canadian. He’d heard we were loud, and couldn’t believe it. And he heard it was the toughest road arena.

He shook my hand at the end of the game and said everything he heard was true. And he was truly hoping our teams would meet in the playoffs. Since then it’s really hard to hate a Canucks fan.

And I’m hoping they bring the green men. (Actually, were you at the game where we had our own green men?)

What an exciting game last night. Even though I’m not cheering for Boston, I’m always happy to have a team win one in front of their own fans. This looks like it might be a long series.

I hope the Sharks get it together and come out strong tonight!
