I’m trying to figure out how to calculate or confirm my UC GPA for college applications. I’ve attached an image of my current GPAs from my school’s portal, including overall GPA, weighted GPA, and a section labeled “UC/CSU GPA.”
Does the UC/CSU GPA listed here reflect my actual UC GPA for admissions, or do I need to calculate it myself using the UC formula?
The CSU GPA can be found on your Cal state application. You can calculate it here: GPA Calculator | CSU
If you have not taken any college courses, then your CSU GPA = UC capped weighted GPA.
Please note if you are a CA HS student, then you can look up which HS courses are weighted in the calculation (Yellow Star) here: University of California A-G Course List
UC’s and CSU’s use only 10-11th grades for the a-g courses in their calculation. 9th grades are not included and 12th grades are not considered for admissions. The only exception is Cal Poly SLO which does calculate their GPA with 9-11th a-g course grades but still has the 8 semester Honors point cap for weighted courses taken 10-11th grades.
Your HS transcript may not reflect the correct GPA since not all HS designated Honors classes are UC approved.
UC unweighted maximum is 4.0
UC/ CSU capped weighted maximum is 4.4.
UC Weighted uncapped is 5.0.
What you have posted just shows 1st semester 10th grade which really does not mean anything since the CSU/UC GPA’s are calculated based on your overall 10-11th grades for the a-g courses and not calculated by each semester.
I would ask your HS counselor since they can tell you how this GPA is calculated for your HS.
Based on my experience with my kids HS transcripts and other local HS transcripts, that many times the HS CSU/UC GPA listed is NOT the actual calculated GPA for these schools.
