Ok, not Apple but just got the notice for my Jelly Bean update for my Droid–Merry Christmas :D

You can in fact use Siri with Google maps. All you have to do is add the words “in transit” after the address. Then when the selection screen comes up press Google maps. Voila, the address is in Google

DS just got an iPhone 5. He is excited. His data plan is 1 GB. Not a game player and have wifi
R
access on campus. I guess he will have enough GB. He will need to hunt for apps now.

Sorry about having many typos on my kindlefire above.

Noticed that less than 6 hours after DS had received his iphone, he spent his first 0.99 dollar on his new app - Figure from propellerheads. He explained to us it was a highly simplified version of Reason from the same company. I guess it could help him kill time on his flight back to school in a few days. For the young generation, a tool seems to be for fun first, then for the more serious applications.

I heard of “track my iPhone”. Is it good to turn it on in your opinion? He is not a young kid anymore.

We purchased iPhone 5 and its AppleCare from an Apple retail store. We gave the “genius” there DS’s Apple ID. Now when we login into his Apple online account, we do not see these two items in his account. Is it a concern? The genius did not give us a box of AppleCare either, even though the receipt showed the AppleCare item. Has Apple retail store stopped giving out the essentially empty AppleCare box recenntly when you purchase AppleCare? I do not care if we get a box, but I want to make sure Apple has our purchase record on their computer.

We are concerned that Apple may think we did not purchased AppleCare, when we could not locate the original receipt in the future.

Thanks!

I think they might mail the apple care box.
Did he have the receipt emailed?

When I bought my Macbook Air a few months ago, I did not receive a box. I think it is all done with the Apple Care number and it should be on your receipt and assigned to your account. Your expiration date will also be on the receipt.

Assuming you have the Apple Care number, go here and check your coverage:
[Apple - Support - AppleCare Agreement](AppleCare Products - Apple)

You can also check coverage with the serial number of the phone if you don’t have the Apple Care number.

Emeraldkity4 and snowball, thanks!

I followed the link provided by snowball and enter the serial number. I see the iphone 5 and applecare+ are listed, together with their purchase dates and applecare+ expiration date on Dec 23, 2014.

I believe DS received a receipt in his email.

Bought son a MacBook Pro in 2010 with AppleCare and there was no box.

Apple website says that unlocked phones are only for att.
But Verizon website says that if I want to keep my current plan I have to go to the apple store & buy an unlocked phone.
?

I think what likely happens in our case is that, when we purchased it at a local Apple retail store, it only showed up if we looked it up using serial number. It may take a while before the purchased items (iPhone 5 and applecare+) will show up in his Apple online account (if ever).

I just got all 4 of us iPhone5s at BestBuy. They matched the lowest price advertised of $127.99 apiece. They also said they’d try to get our $36/line fee waived, another $144! We were in the store until about 10:30, while they tried to finalize our sale and activate our phones. Ultimately, they sent us home and were unable to port our phone numbers from our current carrier to the new phones. We’re going with Sprint because S begged to have unlimited data. That seemed like a good idea, even though it’s pretty pricey at $210 + taxes, etc./month, minus about $15 or so for a discount we qualified for.

Re post 410 - Verizon iPhones are apparently unlocked and they can be used on other networks (including AT&T). Haven’t tested this out, but it does seem that the unlocked phone from the apple store can only be used on AT&T network in the US.

Don’t laugh, CC’ers. I ended up with an iPhone 5 since my Windows Phone died three days after upgrade eligibility… DD1’s Windows Phone died a few days earlier and she got an iPhone 5 (as reward for a 4.0 semester :)) and my choices were either the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone or the iPhone 5.

The Nokia is, in the words of a reviewer, the same size as the iPhone wrapped into a tortilla roll (i.e. about 50% thicker and heavier) which ruled it out since I carry mine in my shirt pocket.

After a few days I have to say, I’m impressed by a few things and dismayed by a few, but overall the cult^H^H^H^Hecosystem is pretty good.

DS has used his new iPhone 5 for a few days only. He is pleased. His data plan is 1 GB. He seems to be very careful about not exceeding it. Since he has never used any “true” smartphone, I think he has no idea about how easy to exceed 1 GB in data.

We didn’t want to risk or worry about overages so have switched from Verizon to sprint. Am sure S &D as well as H and I especially when we’re away from home. H is still trying to decide if he’d prefer switching to android. Some of her friends have each.

I didnt know they even had one gb plans.
Mine is unlimited & both Ds have 2 Gbs which they never come close to going over.
Im keeping my unlimited though.

I’m getting used to my (Christmas surprise) iPhone 5. Finally got the contacts transferred over from my old (1st gen) droid, the photos are still in the ether.
We still have unlimited data on Verizon. By going through the rep for the company we work for, H was told that by paying $30, the unlimited data remained. Yay us. If we’d gone straight through the Verizon store it would have been a no-go.

I’ll miss the droid widgets.

I can get a new phone through verizon and keep unlimited only if I dont use the discount and pay month to month.
Then i have to take it to the apple store to get applecare.

Ek, I think the phone was $199 + the $30 upgrade fee. H went through the Verizon rep for The Greatest Aerospace Company in the World and it worked ok. The trick was to deal with the rep. The stores will tell you there’s no way to do it and you must do the share plan. We also get a discount on accessories. AFAIK, it is the same for all their phones, not just the iPhones.
