I transferred this semester (Spring '14) from Central Connecticut State University to The University of Connecticut. I am currently not doing well in 2/4 classes and these are not suppose to be to hard of classes. Ever since I started to notice my poor grades, I started to receive help and put a hold on my social life. I recently did poorly again on my tests even when I took 3-4 weeks of preparation time. I am baffled with how this semester is going and now I must rely on doing well on my finals just to pass these classes. Does anyone have a tips regarding how to excel in classes with so much time being put into them. It is very frustrating and depressing since I have worked so hard to get to this school.

How to excel without putting much time into them……really?

I don’t think that’s what he said; he spent 4 weeks to prepare for an exam anyway.

OP, I’m not 100% sure what you are doing wrong, but I can guess. You are either not studying smarter, or you are bad test taker.

Do you do well in your homework? If it’s not graded, can you usually finish it without constantly looking at the answers? If yes maybe you are not a good test taker. What happens when you take a test, do you just forget everything?

It also depends on what kind of class these are. If they are Math-y classes, first understand the concept and then practice as much as you can. Easy problems, hard problems, anything. Look online for even more problems. Getting hard problems right will give you confidence come test time.

Sorry, misread that sentence.

You need to identify the problem. Do you not understand the material or do you have a good grasp of it but perform badly on tests? Are you turning in all of your assignments on time? Also, how were your grades in HS and at your first college?

It is not uncommon for people to find out that they have undiagnosed ADHD. Obviously we have no way of knowing if this is an issue but it’s worth checking into if you have a hard time staying on task or being focused and productive.
