Why Do People Revere UC Berk and UCLA So Much?

…hahah, i agree.

this thread keeps getting better and better. and we’re all so off topic here.

“Lord of the Flies” We were required to read it in eighth grade, and while I recognized its merits-- such as the amazing, horrific and interesting plot-- I found it slightly boring to actually read through. This same thing happened when I had to read “Heart of Darkness”-- the plot and story is very poignant and relevant, the actual way in which it was written was somewhat difficult and boring to finally get through.

In any case-- why does it remind you of Lord of the Flies, megastud and Izzie? Do I remind you of some evil young English boy sticking boars’ heads atop pikes or something? :P

“allow me to express some surprise that you are a mother (an adult). I thought you were younger, because of the manner in which you occasionally write.”

For the record, telling an adult that they write like a child is insulting. IzzieBear, do you think that was fair? That was a snide comment regarding her intelligence. SuzieQ2007 has the right to defend herself. What goes around comes around.

No, not you PEALS. But someone else, sure.

I also disliked the book. I thought it was a snooze. And to think how excited I was as a middle school student, about to read about teenagers ripping each other apart!

“allow me to express some surprise that you are a mother (an adult). I thought you were younger, because of the manner in which you occasionally write.”

Uh…TritonBruin? I didn’t say that comment. kthanxbye.

I did think it was rude of her to insult PEAL’s intelligence by implying that he had a low IQ. not needed.

Lord of the Flies totally ruled.

Only Ethan Frome, Great Gatsby, and Great Expectations were better in HS.

No, that comment was made by PEALS-05.

I favored To Kill a Mockingbird.

“allow me to express some surprise that you are a mother (an adult). I thought you were younger, because of the manner in which you occasionally write.”

“For the record, telling an adult that they write like a child is insulting. IzzieBear, do you think that was fair? That was a snide comment regarding her intelligence. SuzieQ2007 has the right to defend herself. What goes around comes around.”

…Then why did you say that Triton? I didn’t write that comment, so why was your post directed to me?

Hey Bubbles for Sale I loved Great Gatsby! After I read it in ninth grade with the English class I’ve read it several times on my own time, for fun. I have this dog-eared copy full of notes and highlighted passages. It’s a great novel.

Oh and Izzie: so I’m not the evil young boar-killing schoolboy? Then do I remind you more of the fat young schoolboy with the glasses that gets ganged up upon and murdered sometime during the book? Because to a degree I can relate. :P

hahah…no, not quite.

I think we’re all the fat young school boy every once in a while, here on our great deserted island of CC.

Oh, and Triton, I think I just got your comment. I’m sorry, I’m spacing out and I’ve spent way to much time on the internet this week (thanks to being between summer work/trips, and awe struck that im actually done with school for a while).

I guess everyone has a right to defend themselves. I was just taken aback. I found her comments to be a bit hasher than what PEALS had to say. Besides, I wouldn’t want or expect my mommy to say that to people in my relative age group. :P

I mentioned it because Lord of the Flies chronicled the slow but steady devolution of well-behaved, manner poseessing boys to… well, you know.

…i love fishes ‘cause they’re so delicious - gone gold fishin’

Izzie,
I don’t think it’s fair for you to write a lengthy post directed ONLY at SuzieQ, condemning her for her comments. I just wanted to point out that they are both guilty of degrading comments.

*Despite the good laughs this thread is offering me…/i

well said, megastud
Peals-05, chill out dude - there are better uses of time.

“Peals-05, chill out dude - there are better uses of time.”

Really, Icarus? Such as what-- reading 90±post long threads for laughs and then deciding to tell someone to “chill out” as if they’d care what you in particular have to say…?

No, really. I’ll chill out on my own time and I don’t particularily care for you to tell me so. I guess SusieQ’s out for the night, and I’m oh-so-glad to see she has Bruins (coughTitanBruin) to defend her while she’s gone.

TritonBruin,

There’s a certan maturity level expected from an adult and parent. I don’t think anything I said, while it may have been in PEAL’s defense (oh heavens, am I making friends with the enemy?), was immature or disrespectful. I just advised her to watch her manners, and perhaps respond like the responsible adult I hope she is outside of this board. If I offended either one of you (Suzie or Triton), I am truly sorry.

PEALS - We’re not trying to degrade Bruins here are we? Even if I am a Bear and not a Bruin…I sure hope not. We don’t need any more of that…hehe.

Oh, no… and why would I ever, ever want to do that? I mean, what have Bruins ever done to us Trojans…?

Please correct me if I’m mistaken, but I remember reading that English is not SuzieQ’s first language. I don’t want to get into this debate, but don’t insult her writing when you have no idea of her background in the language.

As a recent immigrant, this hits a bit too close to home for me–in one of the first threads I participated in on this board I was virtually assaulted for confusing two very similar words (“presumptive” and “presumptuous”, I think). Almost scared me away from CC.

But seriously, people. Chill.

Gosh. College rivarly is so bitter and hilarious!

I grew up in LA and sometimes we would go to UCLA/USC football games. My dad worked with one couple - the husband was a USC alum, and the wife was a UCLA alum. They wouldn’t speak to each other throughout the entire afternoon. They arrived in seperate cars, sat in different areas in the stadium…the works.

haha…I thought this stuff ends when we have all entered our careers, settlde down with a hubby/wife and create some little ones…

Guess not.
