William and Mary updated stats for the class of 2027. May be helpful for upcoming applicants.
I am wondering if there is any insight here. I donāt want my daughter to ābugā admissions during this process. But I wonder is she should be continuing to contact the local dean of admissions with updates, like that she has a new play that she is doing, or proof from the school of all her community service hours. Also, she never really built a relationship with the associate dean at the school for our area, but she did a tour, an interview, and 2 student panels. Is that enough to show interest? Especially if she applied ED? She has wanted to go to W&M since she was in 9th grade for a variety of reasons (we visit the area often) but being OOS and with the competition the chances are so slim. I think she is unique and awesome and that W&M would be luck to have her⦠but getting them to know that is a completely different story! Any thoughts, suggestions, or even commiserating is welcome.
Take a few deep breaths. You are in the home stretch. Early decisions should be coming out in the next week or so. Itās highly unlikely that anything your daughter does now would make any difference. Do not have your daughter contact admissions unless she has a question that canāt be answered on the website. If admissions wants verification of her community service hours or any other information they will reach out to her. Your daughter has done everything she can to show interest - including applying Early Decision which is the ultimate demonstrated interest. Iāve also heard that the interview can help a lot especially for students that are not on the higher end of W&Mās stats. FWIW, my out of state S22 never interviewed or contacted his admissions officer. Sending you and your daughter hugs. Good luck
Hi, all! I just wanted to commiserate with anyone who is nervously waiting for ED resultsš¬. S24 is OOS with two siblings who went to W&M.
For @MotherMother1 , I would say applying ED is the ultimate way to show interest, so donāt worry about anything else your daughter could have done!
I will be watching W&M social media for hints about when news might come. Below are the past release dates. Very best wishes to everyone!

Fingers crossed for all who are waiting. My OOS son was in the RD pool last year. Now is a very happy freshman at WM.
Decisions are out! Hope for good news for all!
D24 got deferred. Looking for recommendations as to how to proceed from those in the know.
Iām sorry, @MotherMother1 . S24 was also deferred and it felt like a punch in the gut at first.
We are trying to see the deferral as an opportunity to look more closely at all the good things about his other schools, and even as a chance to expand his list of schools. Maybe the universe is trying to tell us that thereās something he needs at some other school?
As far as what deferred students should do, I know W&M will want first semester grades and any new outstanding accomplishments. If it is still the first choice, I think the student should write a short statement explaining why it is such a good fit for them, and saying that they will absolutely attend if accepted.
Accepted OOS ED!!!
UW GPA: 4.0
ACT: 33 (Superscore)
Heavy music spike and decent ECās
Hoping to major in business analytics and/or econ
Yes, it feels like a punch in the gut. My D24 wanted to go so much since 9th grade. It is not just the school. She has such and emotional connection to the area, we all do, even though we are from OOS. Thank you for your advice and good luck! It is still her first choice and while she will choose another back up from any acceptances, she will be doing what she can to sway them to choose her come April.
Accepted ED!!
In state, unweighted GPA is 3.98, test optional, IB Diploma, and ECs included key ones like Girl Scouts, president of a club, volunteering club, public art club, CTY program, etc. I plan on majoring in Government!
@MotherMother1 - Nowās the opportunity to gather your senior year updates and finish strong The MOST important update will be her first semester grades and any updated test scores (if any). Also re-affirm to admissions that W&M is your first choice and will accept if admitted.
W&M has seen a continuous increase in ED applications and I would think they are reluctant to have too many students accepted via ED. The good news is that by being deferred is that you are considered competitive with the entire RD pool.
Accepted OOS ED
UW GPA 3.89, Weighted 4.78
SAT: 1480
10 Ap Classes, ECās include orchestras musician, officer positions in MUN, NHS, TRI-M, and other Honors societies, community volunteering and youth church leader. Plans to major in IR & Govāt.
Accepted In-state ED
Weighted GPA 4.0, test optional, 4 AP classes and 5 honors classes
Studied abroad junior year (class rep while there), NHS, National French Honors society, club co-founder, varsity sports, etc.
Hopefully this makes those that were deferred or rejected feel better. Another very competitive ED round.
And ED2 is still to come. There is a lot of good stuff going on at WM now. My son just finished his first semester there and is so happy.
My son is wanting to apply (regular decision) but Iād love to get a sense of his chances. He toured last year, did the interview and is really high on W&M but his stats I fear do not measure up. He has a 3.85 UW GPA/ 4.13 W (it will be a 4.23 after fall grades). 8 APs. 1400 SAT. Does he have a chance? How do these stats compare with kids who were rejected or deferred during ED? And if he applies should he not submit the test score? Appreciate any insight.
In state or out?
